J’ai 20 ans et j’habite à Gatineau depuis 16 ans. Tous les jeunes que j’ai côtoyés dans cette ville tiennent le même discours: Gatineau est une ville déprimante et beaucoup veulent partir dès qu’ils en auront l’occasion. Tous mes amis plus âgés sont déjà partis. Et honnêtement, je comprends.
On essaie tous de sortir le plus possible, de trouver des activités ou d’en créer, mais, au final, tout devient rapidement redondant. Apprendre que la salle Anik a fermé et que le Starcité a été réduit a aussi été très décourageant pour de nombreuses personnes autour de moi. On a l’impression que la ville se soucie peu des jeunes.
Le fait que presque tous les jeunes se connaissent donne également l’impression que la ville est toute petite. Aussi, pour certains domaines, les occasions professionnelles sont très limitées, et ça rend l’épanouissement ici plus difficile.
Mais peut-être c’est simplement parce que nous sommes jeunes et que nous voulons toujours plus.
