Ideas for old windows?

One is going to be our seating chart (probably going to do cards on twine or hang them somehow, hand lettering them seems a bit of a faff); looking for ways to incorporate the other. We have an arch already for the ceremony that my dad built. Maybe to hang our seed pack favors? We're having 2 favors - seed packs and 2x2 travertine tiles repurposed as magnets, with wildflowers on them (using temp. tattoos to put on the wildflowers and sealing with mod podge). Would love other ideas! My dad is retired but used to restore old windows and doors so he had these hanging around. First window has all panes and second is missing top middle pane and left/right panes on second row from the top.

Which would work better for travertine tile - temp. tattoos or waterslide decals?

Hi everyone, I've had great success in the past using wildflower temporary tattoos to make coasters for friends on ivory/cream travertine tiles (I looked through my phone but I can't find a pic). My wedding is in September and I have some time on my hands for DIYs (teacher on summer break). I am wanting to make 2x2 tile magnets as favors to complement our wildflower seed packets (we are in New England and have a handful of guests from the UK and California who wouldn't be able to take the seeds, so I'm thinking of having both available and everyone can choose one or the other or both; I'll make enough for this). I also would like to make our table numbers on 4x4 tiles and display them on a mini easel.

For the magnets, I plan to just use wildflower temp. tattoos like I've done previously. But for the table numbers, I'd like something more custom that matches the bar signage & menus, as well as our invites and save the dates. I've attached a photo of current thinking. Would it be better to print this on temporary tattoo paper (understanding words/numbers would need be reversed), or on waterslide decals? I've never done waterslide before. We only have 9 tables so it seems quite manageable. This isn't necessarily the final font or design, just something I'm playing with. The bottom flowers may not make the final cut.

Thank you for any advice! I'm excited now that the school year is over to have some time to focus on crafty DIYs for the wedding (:

EDIT Ignore the small number ones, no idea where they came from and will remove, haha.

Looking for ideas for homemade favors, wedding in NH with some out of town guests

Obligatory I know that favors aren't necessary. I have some time on my hands (teacher on summer break) and enjoy being crafty, so would actually love the opportunity to put some together. I love the look of small glassine envelopes with a custom wedding stamp, but am struggling with what to put inside. I initially though wildflower seeds for our region (New England) but we have a few guests come from California and from the UK, so would need an alternate option. My idea would be to put both out and guests could take one or the other, or both, rather than say "here, you get this because you're from X place." I am also not opposed to cutting the seeds altogether and doing something else, like tea (we are both huge tea drinkers), although I think this would be more expensive than the seeds. We're expecting about 75 guests, give or take, with two of my cousins & their families living in California and his parents, 2 brothers, and a handful of friends from England.

We're putting local jams, maple syrup etc in welcome baskets for out of town guests so don't want to do that again for favors. We like nature, Lord of te Rings, Adventure Time, reading, cooking/food, birding, hiking, etc. Maybe I should ditch the idea but it sounds so fun and cute to put together!

Low back bra + shapewear, also jewelry suggestions!

Hi all! My wedding is coming up in September and I need to decide on undergarments for my dress. I have a 32DD bust and am wearing a regular bra and high waisted shapewear shorts in the photos. I will be wearing a fingertip veil for the ceremony but not the reception. Although the style hides a lot and the bra/shorts color is a good match for my skin, I don't care for how they can be seen through the lace and the cups don't quite work in the front. Looking for suggestions for a low-back strapless bra that could work and/or low back shapewear.

I'd prefer not to wear a low-back strapless bodysuit situation because going to the bathroom seems like a nightmare. But if they have a crotch slit or something I'd be open to it - never worn a bodysuit before so not sure if that's a thing.

I asked the tailor about sewing in cups but she didn't think I need them (planning to ask again). For previous formal events as a wedding guest etc I've done an adhesive bra + tape but I was never very happy with the final look and also would probably be stressed to do the taping on my wedding day when nerves are high. I will though if I can't find ready-made undergarments.

I'm in the Boston area and also spend a lot of time in NH if you have any recommendations for trying on in person, or online shops that would allow returns are great too.

Also looking for delicate jewelry suggestions for earrings and a necklace, my rings are platinum but I think I'd prefer gold-tone jewelry. Anything in an ethereal, vintage style since the lace top of the dress is already a statement on its own. I'll also have a few simple flowers in my hair.

Thank you!

Backyard wedding sanity check

Hi all, we are rapidly approached our September wedding on family property in New Hampshire and I wanted to do a sanity check before I get too in the weeds. I'm a teacher now on summer break so this is my sole focus for the next ~8 weeks (and prepping for partner's green card application). We're expecting about 75-80 guests.

- Vendors booked: catering, florist, photographer, bathroom trailer, hair/makeup, band for reception, string quartet for ceremony & cocktail hour, rentals including tent/tables/chairs/dance floor/stage. Going to pick out linens and plates next week from rentals place. Cake tasting next week also. Need to purchase alcohol.

- Parking: plenty available and we're working on getting a shuttle as well, need to chase them up.

- Neighbors: it's at the end of a 3.5 mile dirt road and there are no nearby houses. I will be notifying neighbors on the road to expect increased traffic. Party should be done by 10pm or so.

- Permits: none needed

- Power/electricity: my fiance is a lighting tech and he is in charge of this part. There's also a generator. Band has given us specific needs and he says it can be done. Officiant will be miked.

- Lighting: fiance also on this, we are going to make sure the path to the bathroom is well-lit. Tent comes with bistro lights. May do different lighting for the dancing.

- Rain plain: Ceremony can happen inside, will be tight but doable. Sides on the tent and should be fairly dry inside. Tent is on a flat location also on a slight rise so won't flood.

- Decor: minimal other than florist. My dad built us an arch from birch trees. We're also hoping to make an ax-throwing target and a stand for a dartboard. Borrowing giant jenga and cornhole from a friend. Thinking of making a seating chart on an old window (dad is a preservation carpenter so we have some already). The setting is extremely beautiful!

- Landscaping: dad is in charge of this part.

- Clean up: catering will remove trash, bus dishes, etc. Still looking for 1-2 people to help with any gaps at the end of the night. Flowers/tables/chairs/leftover alcohol will be done the following day by family (they are aware and volunteered for this).

- Coordination: My brother's partner and my fiance's brother volunteered to be the point people for different vendors. My parents will also be helping. Brother's partner is calling the shots re. timing and telling people what is when (ie moving from cocktail to dinner). Band leader will serve in an emcee role during reception for cake cutting, etc. Looked into a DoC but it was out of budget unfortunately. I'm sure it won't all go as planned but I hope to be well-prepared.

What am I forgetting? Would especially love to hear from anyone who's also done a backyard wedding. Thanks for reading!

Cleaning a vintage veil

Hi all, I picked up this veil for my upcoming wedding and am wondering if it's possible to clean myself at home. The tulle is intact and I don't think it's super old as it's not very yellowed. I was thinking of creating a mild solution with OxiClean and soaking it for an hour or two with frequent checks. Thoughts on how to proceed? I also have a dress from the early 90s but I'm going to try to get that one professionally done.

Thank you!

No alterations?

Hi, I just had my first wedding dress fitting and the seamstress told me I didn't need any alterations? I am going to get the roses on the back removed and buttons put up the back, undecided on the roses on the sleeves. I asked about the wrinkles in the bodice and she didn't seem to think it was a fit issue. I don't know anything about getting garments altered, can really nothing be done? The dress does not feel too big but I thought maybe it's my torso proportions being off with the torso of the dress, so it rides up, or the hips being too tight (they don't feel tight though). I asked about having cups sewn in and she said it wasn't necessary either.

Help with shapewear/bra

Hi all! I'm wearing this vintage 90s dress, I love the dropped waist and how it makes me look but the low back is giving me issues with finding shapewear. In the pics (from the shop) I am wearing a high waisted short but you can see it through the lace, which isn't ideal. I'd be open to a one piece too with underwire support, I have a small rib cage but a larger chest so support is essential. Looking for tummy control and not worried about thighs or anything. For other occasions I've worn those sticky cups and boob tape but not sure I want to be messing with that on my big day if it can be avoided, unless there is a great one out there. Thank you!!

Help w/ bowl ID

Snagged this at the thrift store, the pattern looks like Jeanette Camellia to me but I can't find this exact piece on replacements.com or any other resale sites. Not sure what it was originally intended for or how old it might be; I've been using it for snacks and find the handle very convenient!

My dad finished our arch today!

Made from birch saplings he cut down. Roses and clematis are going to grow up it and we might have the florist add something at the top depending on the progress of the climbers. I absolutely love how it looks!

New job in Manchester, where to live?

Hi all, I'm considering accepting a job offer in Manchester (elementary school teacher). I'm from Jamaica Plain but not super familiar with the North Shore. My fiance and I are in our mid 30s, no kids, probably looking to rent 2+ bedroom apt as we are not ready to buy yet. I hate driving/have severe driving anxiety so would prefer a shorter commute (my fiance luckily does not have this issue). We love nature, good food, and relaxing at home. I was looking at Beverly but also would love input from the sub. Thank you!

This is a Hocking Cameo/Ballerina grill plate from the early 1930s. Faint glow under UV light so likely there’s manganese!

Unfortunately these are the only pictures I have right now, they were my grandmother's who was big into antiques. Looking for an approximate age and any other info; I know they used to be kerosene lamps and someone at some point converted them to electric. I did UV test them last time I was home visiting and one glows, but I can’t remember which. There is also a 3rd lamp in the same style w/ a milk glass base. Thanks!
