I miss feeling like people are excited to see me, not my luggage

I don’t know if I’m just being sensitive or if this is actually valid.

We’re going home to the Philippines from the US soon, and of course excited kami. It’s been a while since we’ve been home.

Pero napapansin ko lang… every phone call with family somehow ends up being about their bilin.
“Pwede bang pabili nito?”
“Pakidala naman nito.”
“May space pa ba sa luggage?”
“Don’t forget ha.”

I honestly don’t mind buying pasalubong. We already budget for it and we enjoy giving gifts. Pero minsan I wish the conversations weren’t always about what we can bring.

Not once has anyone asked, “Saan mo gusto pumunta pag-uwi?” or “Ano gusto mong kainin?” or “Let’s go out when you get here.”

Meanwhile, my friends are already messaging me things like, “May santol kami pagdating mo.” “Saktong season ng lansones, bibigyan ka namin.” “May mangosteen dito, ipagtatabi kita.”

Honestly, those simple gestures hit me more than they probably realize.

It’s not even about the fruits. It’s the feeling that someone thought of you. That they’re excited to see you, not just whatever’s inside your luggage.

I also can’t really vent about this to anyone. Kahit sa asawa ko, ayoko kasi mag-iba tingin niya sa family ko. I know they love me. They’re not bad people. Baka ganito lang talaga ang nakasanayan when someone lives abroad. Pero minsan nakakapagod din feeling na parang ang value mo is tied to what you can bring home.

Anyway… gusto ko lang ilabas ’to somewhere. Thanks for reading if you made it this far.

Saan po makakabili ng kalamay na ito?

Alam ko po sa Antipolo eto mabibili, pero may alam ba kayo na mabibilhan sa Metro Manila area?

Just got back from London and basically filled a suitcase with British goodies 🇬🇧

Hey everyone! Just got back from London, and I may or may not have sacrificed a concerning amount of suitcase space for supermarket snacks. Zero regrets. 😂

Also, whoever recommended the M&S Pistachio & Almond Butter Cookies and the Mango Chutney Poppadoms… thank you!! Those things are ridiculously good.

One of my favorite things to do when I travel is wander around grocery stores, so honestly, exploring the snack aisles was a highlight of the trip. British supermarkets are on another level.

For anyone heading to the UK soon, don’t overlook the grocery stores. Some of the best finds aren’t in restaurants, they’re in the snack aisle!

Now I need recommendations for next time! What are your must-buy snacks, treats, or grocery store finds in the UK? 🇬🇧
