Can we get a “that can’t be comfortable” thread going? I’ll start:

I’m not talking sploots, I’m talking bro, you have 40 gallons worth of options, why did you decide folded in half pressed against the glass was the comfiest spot rn.

Too big ?

My bf used to have fish & has a very huge tank. I didn’t take the dimensions yet because it’s in a shed and I haven’t wanted to crawl in there, but it’s at least a foot longer than a 40 gallon just eyeing it. It does look slightly shorter though, maybe 12/13 as opposed to 15. I’d guesstimate 60-75 gallons. He doesn’t quite remember as it’s been a few years, but it appears to be in great shape with no cracks.

Currently I have the standard 40 breeder 36x18x15 but have been considering going bigger as I’ve been adding more clutter & my Leo has started getting really into digging. So this is exciting to essentially have a huge tank for free!!!

I was wondering if there is a point that’s considered too big - and if there’s also a point considered too short. I feel like over the last decade we have learned so much and the guidelines continue to change. Anyone have any tips in this area ?

Gravid

My lady is 7 and has never laid an egg. This year I paid more attention to the light cycles and changing her lighting to match their natural cycle. She has never been a digger, but is digging so much lately. Her tail is also looking a bit thinner (still well within healthy range) but her body is the same size. I have seen her licking her calcium powder more, I just ordered more as I didn’t realize how quickly it expires and I have had it for ~ 10 months now. So I’m hoping that will help.

She has been eating less, she still gets excited and alert for food but it’s every ~ 2 weeks versus every week, but instead of eating until it’s all gone, she only has 1-2 worms or 2-3 dubias. I did however put ~ 10 crickets in recently and they were all gone by morning.

I’ve looked at her belly best I can without stressing her out… I don’t *think* I see any eggs but I know they are sort of more clear and hard to see.

My question is, how would I actually know if she laid? Like how would I even find it in her tank? She has multiple hides and has been digging so for all I know it’s somewhere in the dirt. Is it even important for me to know? Would I need to remove them? I’m assuming yes…

Any input ?

Swimming holes by Lake George

Anyone know some good verified swimming holes off the beaten path by Lake George ? I found a few leads in and around Lake Luzerne - but open to any suggestions!! Little hike is okay :) Willing to drive ~ 30min to an hour in any direction from Lake George if it’s a solid spot!! Prefer something in a river vs a lake with a beach.

Help with bathroom smell

Our bathroom does not have a window. It’s on the top floor of an older house that has one window at the end of the hallway and that’s it. There’s an electric vent above the shower but that’s it. It’s the only bathroom in the house. Opening the singular window on the top floor does pretty much nothing. Also have a litter box in here.

I feel like the bathroom permanently seems to smell like human pee. We flush with the lid down now to try and stop it but I feel like it still smells. I keep the toilet clean, dust, vacuum, I even wipe down the walls with a rubbing alcohol and white vinegar multipurpose spray I use. Every once in a while I feel like it’s randomly a little better but I can’t even figure out a pattern, cleaning the bathroom fully does not change whether or not it smells this way. Neither me nor my boyfriend pee in the shower to try and stop it too.

People say that our litter box is clean and they wouldn’t know we had a cat. I use an electric one so it automatically scoops the poop & I use pretty litter which I switch every two weeks it does a great job and is listed to be a month but I do it more… doesn’t seem to make a difference either; it specifically doesn’t smell like cat pee, but rather human pee. We only have one cat.

I have no clue what it could be or how to stop it. If anyone has any idea what the smell might be, or how I can better ventilate the space (maybe plants??? Idk I’ll try anything) that would be awesome because I’m paranoid I smell like it when I go out and it’s hard to feel clean :( we keep our whole house very clean. I even have a cedarwood scent diffuser in there!!!

Sudden digging

My girl has NEVER been a digger ever. I only ever saw her “dig” once before when I put her calcium dish too close to her water, and she buried it. That was a year ago or so. She’s 7.

Randomly yesterday I noticed her water dish had dirt and it looked like she had done some digging next to her log. Today, OMG, it’s like she went full on excavator!!

White circle in pic 1 is where she dug out, white circle in pic 2 is her water dish. Can barely tell.

Anyone know why she might be randomly starting this behavior?

Edit to add she does not absolutely no visual sign that she’s egg bound

To clutter or not to clutter

I recently switched from D3 supplementation to a UVB bar. My vet said it’s best to add some leaves / clutter so the light is kind of dappled through rather than just straight glaring UVB light. I added some leaves on the top of the enclosure, but I still feel like I could do more. He also has really taken to trying to use the foliage as monkey bars and I’m worried about him getting hurt - so I think more clutter will give him more options to satisfy the climbing itch and/or land on if he’s going jungle gym on the foliage on top.

I was thinking some jungle vines throughout, but I also do not want to add too much and then I won’t have a basking spot up to temp for his belly.

Yellow circle is below the UVB / basking bulb on the hot side. The rock pile has one big rock under the UVB, and one big rock under the basking bulb so he’s got options. That’s where it’s feeling most open and where I’d like to possibly add more. The left / cool side is decently open too but idk I feel more concerned about making sure the UVB isn’t blaring straight down.

Thoughts ? Am I overthinking it ? What would you add, if anything?

Will AI win?

TLDR: Seems to be a generational gap in support for AI, mainly young folks being against it, wondering if people think it could all be shut down once younger generations are in power.

I’m 24 and fucking terrified of what my life might look like considering the state of the world. I think it’s safe to say if AI wins we’re fucked.

However, I actually do have a lot of hope, but pretty much every G Xer / Boomer I say this to looks at me sideways and says I’m wrong.

AI has crawled into both of my two jobs, which are both in healthcare. I have a family member in foster care and it’s crept into that field too. But ALL of my coworkers & my cousins my age are against it. It’s literally the 50+ year old employees who are tired of working and happy to let a robot do it who support it. All my Gen Z / Millenial coworkers would rather just write our own notes then proofread a robot’s. Even my niece and nephew who are in middle & highschool hate it, and they said that’s the consensus for the most part among kids too. Not to mention, it’s highly unsecure for protected information, and just simply bad at its job. The AI note taking software we have hallucinates things that took place during a call that were never discussed, interprets emotions wrong, our internal AI model is constantly glitching or not providing clear/accurate answers, AI generated emails sound weird… Additionally the environmental impact has been wild, shutting down entire towns due to its resource demand on local grids. There’s literally no way it can realistically become forever.

i have hope that once the old heads at the tops of companies and political roles are outta here, our generation will be putting a quick stop to it. Some states are already coming out with legislation protecting municipalities from being taken advantage of by big tech / AI companies. Protests are working at the local level to halt projects through local government. Even on here, anytime I see someone mention using AI in a post they get dog piled for it. just don’t see it realistically becoming “the future” in the way that people are talking about it now once the younger generations are in power.

All of that being said I do acknowledge plenty of people are not as educated or able to think critically about these things, maybe it seems like a lot more young people are against it than there are realistically, maybe it’s just that who I associate with only shares that consensus.

What do you guys think? Is AI an inevitable future or is there hope?

Arcadia shade dweller pro t5

I went thru other posts and I can’t find anyone having quite the same issue as me… I just got the kit from Reptile Basics which, according to my vet, is the official distributor for the US. The bulb will not twist into place no matter what I do. The official how to video from Arcadia says the pins should be at 3 and 9, I cannot get it that far and I do not hear any clicks.

Twice, while unplugged, it flashed while I was trying to twist.

The fixture itself feels loose and cheap. So many reviews say it feels very sleek and sturdy but that is not how mine feels at all. The actual holder for the bulb slides around in place. The reflector also wiggles a bit in place.

Is this normal for it to be not 100% solid, and to have so much trouble getting the pins in place?? I did email Arcadia and Reptile Basics but I’m antsy to get this installed and curious about other experiences.

Terminal 2, US flights Dublin airport murals?

About a year ago I traveled to Dublin from the US. On the way home we were baffled at the wall art in terminal 2 after pre clearance. We’ve been trying to remember exactly what it said but there were murals with basically poems about Alcatraz, a giant image of the NYPD logo… We’re dying to remember what they said, they were such a caricature of the current state of our country and our slow spiral into fascism that we just had to laugh.

Does anyone have a photo of them, or can remind us exactly what they said?? Something about “fog falls on Alcatraz walls…” etc

Is my gecko suicidal?

I’m switching to a UVB instead of supplementing D3 & so I need to add more foliage to the top so he (she) has some more shade. However Gumbo literally does not understand that they’re not monkey bars. I had to help him down twice before I took them out because he fell!! Do I need to just let him do his thing and figure it out??? Or do I need to engineer a way to make sure there’s absolutely no way for him to reach the vines and climb on them?
