[Vostok Komandirski] My latest additions to my collection

[Vostok Komandirski] I bought this pair of vintage Vostok watches from a guy in Ukraine on Etsy. The green one is the "Paratrooper" with the "Heineken" dial from the early 90s transition from USSR to Russia and the other is from the 70s or 80s known as the "Tank Commander" from the Soviet era. They only have 18mm lug width so I put them on bands meant for the Casio Royale for a wider stance on my 7.5" wrist. Along with my Vostok Amphibia these round out the Russian part of my watch collection.

TL;DR: Pair of Vintage Vostok Komandirskis

[Sanyo R100P Digital Radio Watch] It's Alive!

I picked up this little gem for $2 at a flea market. I needed to make my own battery out of two 364 batteries because the oval original battery is not made any more to run the watch module. The radio runs on its own 357 battery. I found a vintage 2.5mm jack 8ohm earphone online and the AM radio works great. It came from a watch collector and appears to never have been worn. This is a great addition to my growing collection of 70s and 80s digital watches.

Why I sold my BRAND NEW GW-M5610U G-Shock and bought a 2005 and a 2022 DW5600 instead

I already own a couple of waveceptors and four tough solar watches and a handful of round G-Shocks but I never had it all wrapped into one like the GW-M5610U. I had been wanting a Square G to fit better under my long sleeve cuffs in the winter time with a jacket and after reading all the reviews I figured that this was my holy Grail of G-Shocks so I went ahead and ordered it. When it arrived it looked beautiful but then came the dirty truth. Being used to larger Casio and G-Shock models I forgot to take in to account the size of the time numerals. I'm over 60 and a couple of years ago I had to start wearing reading glasses and when I strapped on the new watch I realized that I have to squint to see the numbers or try to hold my arm as far away from my eyes as possible. I was very disappointed in this limitation. That is the only thing that disappointed me about another wise "perfect" watch. I did love the size and form factor and decided well if I wasn't going to be able to see it clearly there was no point in keeping it so I decided to let somebody with younger eyes purchase it and enjoy it. But still like in the idea of the squares I went online and I found the 2005 DW 5600 with the older 1545 module made at the Thailand Y factory that has a crisp screen and a nice blue electroluminescent backlight. It didn't solve having to squint in the daytime but it did make it easier to read at night plus I like the white case with the blue bull bars. This was a tourist purchase in Bangkok from the Casio store where I guess you could get any type and color combination of G-Shock that you wanted. Then I bought the black DW 5600 with the older 3229 module made at the Thailand DH factory which also has electroluminescence but in a slightly more green shade than the more blue 1545. To make it match the white one I ordered a Red Bull bar for it so now I have a pair I call Ebony and Ivory... So fashion-wise they work and are comfortable to wear and they will slip easily under my sleeve cuff in the winter time. Actually, the white one is slightly more comfortable and has a softer strap and case texture. So, if you're an older guy and contemplating getting yourself a GW-M5610U just keep in mind the legibility factor if you value reading your watch clearly without having to put on reading glasses. So I will miss that watch because I was excited to get it but I was able to sell it and have enough money to get its two replacements so now I have two squares that fill a missing niche and from different spots on the G-Shock timeline in my collection.

[Sanyo R100P AM radio watch] I need a battery for this

I picked this up today for a couple of bucks at a flea market. When I got home I found that it needs two batteries one is a 357 which was easy to get.... However it's got this weird oval battery that's marked CR376-2 3 volt battery. I don't think that this battery is made anymore and has anyone figured out how to source One or how to create a workaround?

Affordable doesn't mean it has to be low quality

Here is a fashion watch I picked up in a Ziploc bag of costume jewelry for $2 at a yard sale. This is a 1994 Shiffon Chrono Quartz which was obviously trying to ride the wave back then of the colorful Swatch chronos That hit the shelves starting in 1990. It has a 37 mm case and straight lugs with a flared 20 mm red leather watch strap and the black swatch type plastic buckle. The domed acrylic crystal is nearly flawless for being 32 years old and the dial colors with the contrasting hands in the sub dials really pops. I have a 7 and 1/2-in wrist so if it was a solid black it wouldn't be enough wrist presence for my tastes.... But the color pop face and the textured red leather strap against the black case and buckle gives me all the wrist presence I need. I got it home and popped off the snapback case and to my surprise I found that it has a Hattori/Seiko VD53 quartz chronograph movement that they've used in Lorus, Pulsar watches as well as modern Caddisen chronos among others. I popped the fresh battery in, calibrated the chrono and is 32-year-old mechanism functions flawlessly when I ran it alongside my Citizen Eco-Drive Chrono. This was probably sold in malls, department stores and gift shops..... But I'm happy it's survived and now lives in my collection.

[SNDC11P1] I need advice on this Seiko SNDC11P1 quartz chronograph from 2010

I have about 50 watches, 30 digital, 20 analog, A couple of chronographs, a Seiko turtle and a Seiko 5 diver... Most of my watch faces are black, blue, green and brown and I'm looking to add a white chronograph because I coordinate my watch with my daily wardrobe or activity. I came across this new Seiko with a white face with gold face trim and crown on a stainless steel bracelet, New in the box with papers and tags, Seiko SNDC11P1 quartz chronograph with a 2010 serial number at a small local estate jewelry dealer priced a little under $100. I'm looking for information about reliability on this 7T92-0LH0 quartz movement and if this appears to be a good value for this watch which I'll probably only wear a couple of times of year in the rotation as a dressier one as it doesn't have an external bezel or tachymeter ring. I figured this is the best place to come to ask.... Thanks in advance.

Two 40+ year old Casio flea market finds.... Only $5 each

I was at the local flea market Sunday and came across these from a guy who does house clear outs. These two were sitting, sleeping in an old jewelry box with some costume jewelry. I paid him $10 for the pair.... Brought them home, spiffed them up and put new batteries in them and Ta Da! The gold one is a Casio B820G with the tiny JAPAN N on the bottom of the watch face. It has an interesting three-toned brown colorway. There are obvious wear patterns on the watch head and the guy must have put it on a gold expansion bracelet back in the day and work for many years because there's a lot of wear and honest discoloration to the inside of the band. This watch module only office time, day and date, and day of the week... You can't even set the year.

The other one is a Casio L500 with the tiny JAPAN U on the bottom of the watch face. I really like the two tone blue outlining around the face edge. This watch is on its original band and slide clasp and this watch looks about 95% in great cosmetic shape for its age. My guess is that the husband must have worn his and the wife wants to put hers in the jewelry box and barely wore it. One interesting fact about the L500, if you look at the watch face you will notice that there's a little symbol above the time? That's what they used for PM on this model All it does is time and month and day.

I consider myself lucky to find these two from the early years of Casio '80s design.

If Batman The Dark Knight were a watch it would be this G-Shock

I have a handful of G-Shocks but this GD400-1B2 has rapidly become my favorite. I love this black and blue colorway and the black bull bar that comes installed on it. It's a big 50 mm watch but the designers kept it looking pretty slim with the pusher shrouds and I love the double tube retention bars at the strap end. I also like the design of the strap with virtually no taper except right at the shoulder and this textured patent with the nice titanium looking sign buckle. I think that if Christian Bale had picked a watch for his Batman to wear it would have been this watch. The watch really gives off a "utility belt" vibe from top to bottom and the strap is long enough that Batman could have won this over his back gloves. Speaking of his back gloves I love the wide rectangular serrated pushers that are covered by the shrouds but these pushes would even be easy for Batman to use with his gloves on. I bought this watch specifically for the positive display with large bold numerals as my eyes are getting older and I don't want to have to put on reading glasses to tell the time like on my M5610U. Is this watch packed with features?... No but it has all the usual Casio features that I need. It doesn't have multiband 6, but I don't care I have one that I can use to sync up all my other watches. It doesn't have solar either, but I don't care because without Sola it doesn't have any of the things that you give up with a solar watch like screen legibility or cheaping out on the backlight. This watch has the auto light just like the M5610U and it also has flash for alarm which is great since G-Shock alarms are notoriously dreadful. The backlight is incredible. It's the Super Illuminator with dual bright white LEDs which you can't get with a solar watch and in a dark room this light is so bright that it would make the Bat Signal and Commissioner Gordon blush. The watch uses common 2016 lithium batteries and you can get them so cheap now that I don't have any worries about over-using the backlight. Does this watch lack any feature that I miss?... NOPE! I I guess if there was one thing I wished it had it would be to have a version of the Running Man in stopwatch mode but instead have it be the Running Batman with his little cape flying out behind him..... DA DA DA DA....DA-DA-DA-DA-DA-DA-DA.... BATMAN!

The Running Man rules!

My new Casio W-S220 arrived yesterday and I already LOVE this watch. Reason 1: The Running Man animation... This is probably the only interesting animation that is still very affordable.... I love the Cosmo Graph and the Moon Graph but the prices are Astronomical....lol. Watching the little dude running while I'm timing my morning walking routine makes me smile. Reason 2: The legibility... This watch has some of the largest and boldest main numerals of any Casio I own. It even beats my larger G-Shocks. I am actually ditching my M5610U because my old eyes just can't read the time without reading glasses when it's on my wrist. Not only are the numerals large and bold but in stopwatch mode it has a seven digit timer display, all on one row which none of my G-Shocks do. Having the upper blue section with horizontal lines and the bottom of the dial with the horizontal lines to split the screen in three makes it graphical and highly readable plus the stopwatch mode It shows the current time in the bottom. When it comes to legibility the only drawback is the backlight. It still only has the single yellow orange LED on the left side. Reason 3: Tough Solar Reason 4: The styling.... They hit a home run with the design of the case and the easy to use pushers. The strap on this watch looks and feels premium and much nicer than on my lower priced g-shocks. Even if reasons two, three and four were lousy on this watch I would still keep it just for the Running Man..... It may not be a G-Shock but it still has a 10 bar WR and I will bet you dollars to donuts that The engineers designed this thing to be robust for serious runners who could take a fall especially if they're running cross country.

My $1 Yard Sale Find.... Bring on the music!

I was going around to yard sales looking for used Casio watches and I stopped at one house and they didn't have a watch but they had this baby. Casio VL-Tone VL-5 synthesizer keyboard with original barcode scanner and songbook from 1982. I learned that a lot of current musical composers can use this to get a wide variety of retro vibes. I read the instructions and played around with it a little bit and figured out how to play the introduction to Take on Me by A-ha. Not too shabby for a dollar... And then I found the AC adapter at a different yard sale in a different town also for a dollar.

Super Weekend Holiday Haul

I stumbled upon a little gold mine at Walmart this weekend. Nine Timex watches and two others for a total of $215. The three Timexes on the left are very easy to read with my old eyes so they'll stay in my collection along with one of the others. The rest are heading to Flip City.

4th of July Walmart Holiday Haul

The only thing better about finding ONE classic G-Shock marked down at Walmart..... Is finding TWO classic G-Shocks marked down at Walmart. Happy holiday for me!

Has anyone ever seen Walmart mark UP Casios?

Yesterday I went by Walmart to see if any Casio watches ended up on markdown and was surprised when I looked in the case and saw all the prices on these models crossed out with magic marker. I asked an associate to check the prices for me and found out that they were now $7 to $10 above the original price.

It's amazing what you find when you're out hunting for Casios

I spent the weekend going to yard sales and today the flea market hunting for Casio treasures. I only came across two in both were pretty trashed... But at the last booth in the flea market was an old lady with typical old lady flea market stuff.... But she had two jewelry boxes stuffed with old ladies jewelry in one and the other had some men's stuff which I assume must have been her husband's..... Unfortunately no Casios..... But I found this gem from Protime which they only made in 85 and '86.... She said her husband called a James Bond watch....lol. spent some time cleaning it up and it took me a minute to wake up the LCD screen but it's one of the sharpest screens I've seen on a vintage digital watch..... We would have like this when I was in the army.... Because you could give your buddy the time and light his cigarette. It doesn't have an electric backlight.... But who needs it with this. This is a keeper..... And I love the graphics... So '80s

I still love my Casio AE-1200WHL-5AV

I wear a lot of casios but this one is still one of my favorites. The only thing I did was the old q-tip and nail polish remover to take off the world time and illuminator. I love the bronze colored case with the brown strap. I wore it today because it goes good with this shirt and yes I am one of those guys who matches his watch to his outfit. I have to go somewhere tomorrow so I'm going to wear it with my blue suit with brown shoes..... Yes, around here we wear brown shoes with blue suits.....lol

My love for the Casio W221H-8AV

I have dozens of watches of every type including quite a few casios. Once I hit my 50s I began to need reading glasses and the past couple of years it became very hard to read many of my Casios on my wrist without squinting. Even my DW-5610U-1ER is slightly blurry without squinting and I cannot read the digital faces on any of my Ani-digi G-Shocks without reading glasses.

Then along comes this watch in May 2026. I have both versions in black and this sand/bone color and I REALLY like it for function and for looks. I like how CASIO is giving us a monochromatic look with the gray surround around the display with a small white type and only the blue dashes near, mode, adjust, light, and search. I felt that it needed just one pop of color so I infilled the CASIO on the bottom of the bezel in red to give it a look like the Casio calculators from the 1970s.... This watch rapidly made it to become my everyday beater.
