Including a photo cause the cover really influenced me to read this, even though I usually avoid horror (which this is).

A quick plot summary: In the 1800s, an Egyptian priest is killed defending his temple from thieves, and vows to take revenge before he dies. Over a hundred years later, his mummy, now located in a cultural museum in New York, is accidentally revived by an employee. A cop & his ex-cop ex-best friend need to put aside their personal drama to deal with the string of grisly and inexplicable murders across the city.

My review: 4/5, a thrilling, fast paced, and short (272 pages, only a few hours) read, with a concept I haven’t seen since early 2000s movies and TV (I feel like awakening mummies or entering an ancient tomb and activating a curse/trap was a big trope). Despite the length, the characters are well written and you’re drawn into their personal lives and struggles.

Without spoiling, there’s lots of lore drops and unexpected actions from characters that keep you engaged the entire time. I’ve been in a reading slump for ages and I shockingly finished this one in just two sittings.

Also, it’s not the kind of horror that keeps you up at night and makes dark shadows and halls seem scary, so don’t worry about that lol cause I was. It’s the slasher film type of horror, like Scream.

4/5 instead of 5/5 cause I found the writing a little choppy or maybe TOO easily digestible at times, but that’s what kept it so fast paced of course.

Both of these shades look absolutely gorgeous on me, I picked them based on glamsmitty’s swatch videos (recommend her content if you’re interested in frosts or shimmery makeup).

The L’Oréal lipstick has a really strong scent I wasn’t expecting; it’s not bad, but a little much imo. I have another lipstick from this line that’s made in China and not the US and it has a much more pleasant / toned down scent. The Rimmel lipstick smells more fruity and is really nice too. The formulas are comparable. They’re pigmented but if you use just one swipe, you can layer on top of other lipsticks with the base shade still showing through.

I’ve been getting y2k lipstick/gloss videos on my feed for the past few years like everyone else and it made me want some frost lipsticks so bad! Sadly none of them are really available where I live except for MAC, but I got a relative to bring these back for me & am really happy w them :-)

Until a year or so ago I very much used to be a medium - large (think big enough for an iPad, water bottle, and umbrella) bag lady, so being this minimal requires…..restraint. Also I like taking flatlays!

I have a lot of makeup so it’s fun knowing what I ended up using the most. I would love to see and hear what everyone’s using often enough to make a dent in it :-)

Colourpop Super Shock Shadow in Ritz

I’ve had this for so long that it’s dried out and can only be applied with my finger BUT it still looks good as hell and I use it regularly. It has a warmish peachy ‘base’ to it as per swatches but on brown skin it’s mostly sheer with glitters & so mesmerising to look at when it catches the light. It’s so glittery but they’re scattered so this doesn’t look like ‘too much’ for a ‘normal’ day.

Charlotte Tilbury Airbrush Brightening Flawless Finish in Tan-Deep

This is so pricey that I wish I didn’t like it. Unfortunately…
Aside from being a really nice brightening shade, the finish is just so nice that it’s my saving grace on bad skin/makeup days where my concealer is acting up or won’t blend right or looks patchy / dry. I just press this in with a puff and somehow everything looks good.

MAC Strobe Dewy Skin Tint in Medium 2

This is like strobe cream mixed with a skin tint; it’s very sheer and glowy and I usually mix a blob of this with one pump of foundation. I’ve had to start pressing from the back in order to get this out, like toothpaste lol so I’m almost out of it.

MAC Lip Pencil in Whirl

This is so beaten up you can’t even tell what it is anymore T_T I think it gets whacked badly by the keys and other stuff in my purse…

On my skin tone (med-deep nc44-45ish for reference) this is a brownish pink that’s a shade or so deeper than my lips; so it’s very natural and the perfect liner to pair with a clear or nude gloss, which I do frequently.

I don’t wear this as a liner with lipstick as many of the lipsticks I own are darker than this (I own whirl as a lipstick too, by the way which is a slightly different shade than whirl lip liner)

Honourable mentions to my MAC Colour Excess Eyeliner in Graphic Content (RIP) which was a beautiful shade I used up and can’t find anymore in India, and Huda Beauty’s Faux Filter Concealer which I used up & replaced. The new one still looks new so I haven’t included it.

I feel like anything that’s not a matte lipstick is so hard to photograph without the shine / glare overtaking the swatch…..skill issue for sure.

My skin tone is medium-deep & my undertones lean neutral/warm :-)

To be honest, if I’d done the price per gram calculation earlier I mayyyy have bought something else.

Formula

This lip liner is described as gliding on like butter, drying down completely matte, and being transfer proof, smudge proof, and never skipping or dragging.

Half of those are definitely true; it goes on very smoothly and you don’t have to drag it across the lips, it’s also really easy to blend.

It lasts a few hours on me provided I don’t eat or drink a lot, but I wouldn’t call it transfer proof. It will transfer and smudge very easily.

The two shades I have also seem to differ slightly in formula; borderline (brown) is a little firmer and does dry down; it will still smudge but just a little.

Bloodline (red) is very creamy and doesn’t dry down much, even after waiting for ten minutes I could smudge that swatch out enough to cover half my arm, like a liquid blush. However, since it is a red, I feel like it lasts longer on me than the brown 😅 funny how that works.

There’s also a slight fragrance to Bloodline, while Borderline doesn’t smell like anything. I don’t remember exact dates but neither of them were expired or anything when I bought them, so the formula inconsistency is strange.

Personal thoughts / usage

I wear mostly creamy lipsticks or glosses, so I am happy with this formula, that’s why I bought a second shade of it. I was specifically looking for an everyday brown shade to pair with pinks and light nudes and I really like Borderline. Prior to this, my most used liners were Mahogany & Whirl from Mac.

I generally reapply my lip combo throughout the day / after a meal regardless. That being said though, I wouldn’t repurchase this, I’d like to try new formulas and this one isn’t anything special.

Final Verdict

If you want something comfortable / have dry lips, get it. If you’re looking for a lip liner to mix in with your lipsticks and glosses, get it. If you don’t snack or drink or sweat a lot and just need this to last for office hours, maybe get it. If you love one of the shades get it.

If you’re looking for a transfer proof formula, skip it. If you’re looking for something affordable, maybe skip it.

Haven’t seen any Ramayana adaptations matching the quality & storytelling of Singham Again (2024) I checked leaks for the new one and apparently there’s no Salman Khan or Akshay Kumar cameo?? FLOP

While I did my makeup I felt like I was doing a super light and minimal look but now it actually looks like a lot of products, lol. I tried.

I’ve had this skin tint for a few weeks now and I like it. I had a family gathering in the evening and a relative squished my cheeks as soon as I walked in the door 😅, I thought I was screwed but the makeup didn’t budge at all! Definitely due to the setting powder(s) as well of course, but the skin tint is pretty light and dewy so I was surprised it didn’t smear.

This mascara is lengthening, doesn’t smudge, and is SO easy to remove. I have a waterproof one but I just save it for events.

I like a lot of traditional / geometric prints that we have here but I was wondering if there are any brands that make stuff like this; I love how it's an interesting print but still subtle (Except for the snake one) and doesn't look childish.

A lot of the western wear I see that looks good is made w non-breathable fabrics; whereas the ethnic wear I find are cotton/cotton blend but mostttt of the prints aren't my style. The only clothes that have interesting prints seem to be tshirts.

I'm not looking for those exact prints btw, just brands that have original designs that are cool & good quality.

I SWEAR all of these look different on the lips.....

1) MAC Ruby Woo (Retro Matte)

Everyone knows her….this is a DRAGGY lipstick, but in return it is quite long wearing. I’m sure the new macximal formula is much more comfortable.

This & her liquid lip cousin (#5) are definitely statement reds on me, when worn on their own.

2) MAC Russian Red (Matte)

This is such a nice everyday red. It goes with everything and it’s a comfortable formula.

3) MAC Powerfully Potent (Lustreglass)

Lustreglass Lipsticks are my favourite lip formula ever. They’re just so moisturizing and shiny but they’re quite firm & not creamy. This was a LE shade which I am quite sad about, it was part of their valentine’s collection a few years ago.

4) Revlon Rum Raisin (Super Lustrous Lipstick)

This shade (and #8) are here because I’ve heard them be described as reddish which I found surprising. This is pink on me. I’d wear this with a pink top. I’d call it a pinkish berry at most, and same goes with #8.

5) MAC Ruby True (Locked Kiss Ink Liquid)

This shade makes my eyes happy. This is a VERY good transferproof liquid lip if you’re into that; I’m generally not, but I appreciate having this for events. On normal days though, I like applying this at the centre of my lips with another red on the outside / a brown lip liner to create a gradient effect.

6) ILIA Case Study (Lip Crayon)

Another everyday shade! This is pretty close to Russian Red but a SMIDGE deeper. Crayons are an underrated lippie format, it’s so easy to both line and fill at once. This glides on super smooth and is very long wearing (though it isn’t transfer proof). I want more shades of this crayon so bad.

Only caveat is the cap of this seems to slip off easily; I’m always wary bringing this anywhere in my purse because it would be a nightmare to get off.

7) EGLIPS × Barbie Dry Jujube (Misty Velvet Lipstick)

This brand no longer exists 😔 this is a very lovely creamy formula with a fruity scent that reminded me of scented markers I used to use as a kid.

8) Charlotte Tilbury Walk of No Shame

I’m not in love with this formula; it might be for you if you’re really into matte lipsticks, it’s similar to MAC’s retro matte formula. I prefer something creamier like their KISSING range.

The shade is really pretty but I use it more as a blush than on the lips to be honest. Berries just look a little off on me.

9) MAC Devoted to Chili (Powder Kiss Velvet Blur)

I love slim lipsticks! MAC’s Powder Kiss formula is great because it can be built up to the opacity you want and sheered out very easily. This, again, is a very natural shade on me although it’s a little brighter than I’d like. A brown liner works, as does pairing it with a darker lipstick.

10) Maybelline Madison Red (Creamy Matte Lipstick)

This is new to me so I don’t have much to say, but it’s a VERY pretty orangey-red. I was hankering for something more orange & a little deeper than devoted to chili and this is it.

Lip Liners:

2) MAC Cherry (Lip Pencil)
3) Charlotte Tilbury Kiss n Tell (Lip Cheat)

All of these show up a bit ‘truer’ on my lips since my lips are lighter than my hand. My undertones are neutral - warm. I might be olive, but I honestly can’t tell. Honourable mention to brick-o-la which I don’t have anymore, another lipstick that’s PINK on me.

I was SOOO glad to be done with that lip oil, honestly. I liked the shade, but i felt like it dried / stained a little unevenly and got patchy sometimes. Application was also occasionally patchy, but luckily the shade is nude and quite forgiving of that. Also, personal preference, but I grew sick of the minty feeling, and also of the applicator 🙏 and it irritated me that the name rubbed off of the packaging.

The rom&nd tint is much warmer & not an exact shade replacement, it’s more of a burnt orange cinnamon sort of shade, but I’m really liking the finish & stain so far. Pretty heavy fragrance on it though.

This is the second sky high mascara I’ve ‘panned’. I’d say there’s still some product in there, but it’s started to get flakey on me when it never did before; it’s been almost a year now so I’m calling it. I LOVE this wand, and shall wash it and keep it to separate my lashes.

The Etude mascara is great, the wand is unique and really convenient to use, and I find the final look quite similar to the sky high, but it is SO HARD to take off. I’ve ordered a biphase eye makeup remover because my normal micellar water & oil cleanser isn’t cutting it. I just smudged the mascara onto my cheeks from where it had to be scrubbed off.

The maybelline mascara was also waterproof and smudgeproof and came off with micellar water, so 🫣. The Etude mascara does live up to its claims of holding a curl better, so I’ll give it that.

This is the Kay Beauty EyeKanvas Palette in the shade 'Embrace'

TL;DR: Really cute palette in convenient & light packaging; shadows wear well and blend easily, though the shimmers pack a punch when applied w fingers or a flat applicator as compared to a brush.

Detailed rambling:

I was looking for a cute travel palette and my NON negotiables were that I needed to like every shade (so most 6/9 pans were out), it needed to have a mirror (I wear glasses, so...), it needed shades I wouldn't have with me (i.e no basic browns, because I can just use my bronzer/setting powder if I need those) and it must look pretty (🤷‍♀️). I've had my eye on these for a long time & used my accumulated Nykaa points to get a discount on it.

Onto the palette itself, it's got two really pretty muted pinky mauve-y shades, a gold shimmer, and a berry/plum/brown shimmer. That last shimmer is definitely the hero shade and stands out the most; it's got multi-colored shimmery particles in it. The mattes are soft, the gold shimmer is a very standard formula, while the plum shimmer feels very soft and the swatch has a wet/glossy finish to it. I compared it with some other shimmers at the end so you can see the finish better.

I've included a brush application just for fun, you can def see the shimmers look a little subdued. Might be good if you want a toned down effect for work or something, but I would definitely just apply the shimmers with my fingers. This is just 1-2 swipes though, you can build the colors up a little more, quite easily.

The palette is quite light and doesn't have a heavy or luxe feel to it despite the appearance. It's very obviously plastic and even rattles a bit if you shake it, lol. For the price, I'm not complaining, but thought it was worth noting. There's also a bit of fallout, especially the matte shades, but if you tap the brush once it's fine, I didn't get eyeshadow all over my cheeks or anything like that.

Please NOTE: The shimmer formulas are NOT the same across all the quads. I swatched another palette in store (the shade 'Outshine') and one of the shimmers was chunky and inconsistent and I personally didn't like it, for my purposes anyway, so try and swatch or watch swatch videos for the shade you want.

This is the Fenty Beauty Cheeks out Cream blush in Rosé Latte, today vs early April of this year.

It randomly broke apart while I was using it today :( I’ve had it for four years so I can’t REALLY complain, especially since I threw this in my bag a lot. I will complain a little bit though because I brought this on a trip with me and now I’m purse blush-less until I’m back home.

Still a really great formula & shade & easy to apply so I will def be taping this up 😤 see you all in a few more months when it’s empty.
