i got my little fella at the end of january from a breeder who emphasized that he was super sweet and handleable. obviously, i knew that it was going to take some time for him to get comfortable *with me* and that doesn’t happen right away. however, it’s been a solid three months and i feel like we’ve made little to no progress :(

he’ll be two in july so i know he’s still younger and full of energy but i feel like any time i take him out he just wants to run away. i never grab him, i always take out whatever he’s on, leaves/mushroom/hide/cork/etc, and give him the chance to hop off once he’s out of the enclosure. a lot of the time i have to gently nudge under his chin to get him to crawl onto my hand.

i’ve tried hand feeding occasionally (but i don’t want him to rely on me for food) and i speak to him all the time so he can get used to my voice and my presence.

i’m also terrified of scaring him and making him drop his tail (even though i know he’d be okay if it happened) so i never want to make him too uncomfortable and tend to only have him out for maybe 5-10 minutes at a time.

do y’all have any tips for me? or am i expecting too much too soon? i don’t expect him to be super chill 24/7, but it would be nice to take him out without always stressing that he’s going to try to run away.

edit:

the main reason i even care about handling is just to make sure i can keep him healthy and safe. if i need to take him to vet or i need to help him get stuck shed off or when i have to take him out to make sure his enclosure is clean, i want to feel comfortable that he’s comfortable.

i’ve wanted a leachie for probably close to a damn decade now and this year i’m finally in a position to start looking for a baby to absolutely spoil!

i ordered a frog necklace for my cousin for her birthday and it got delivered today at like 5pm. i saw her for dinner around 7pm and gave her the necklace but she wasn’t the biggest fan of it. the arms and legs articulate and she felt as though they were too flimsy to wear often and the necklace just wasn’t great quality.

at 8pm i reached out to the seller to ask what the refund policy is just in case my cousin decided she really didn’t like it (shame on me for not looking before i ordered, i know 😓). the seller told me i’d have to cover all the shipping fees and a $6 “restocking fee.”

the necklace itself was $35. i’m not entirely sure how much shipping will be because it was free when i bought the necklace but when i googled it, google said it could be anywhere from $9-$12. so there’s a good chance i would be losing $15-$18 to return the necklace and i would only be refunded $17-$20.

is it normal for return fees to be this much? it sucks to lose so much money all because i wasn’t satisfied with the product. like i had the product for 3 hours, looked at it for 10 minutes, it hasn’t even been worn, and i’m only getting refunded 50% of my money? i’ve purchased plenty of things from etsy and never seen such a strict return policy. maybe i just got lucky before idk.
