WIP Making an articulated mermaid doll

WIP Making an articulated mermaid doll

I’ve started working on a sculpted mermaid doll using beads for the articulation. Each clay section gets poked through with a needle while drying to allow me to thread it and the beads together. Right now the movement is about the same as a fidget toy when held up. My plan for the neck is to thread a wooden bead onto that piece of a chopstick and embed it in the neck/shoulders, then have a hole in the base of the head that sits on the length of chopstick above the neck, and another bead or clay capping it off once seated so that it stays on and swivels without falling off.
I also had the thought that I could thread all the pieces together on one length of floss, and then use that as a base to micro-crochet side fins the length of the tail.
Sorry if this is kinda rambly, it’s just what’s been on my mind. The goal of this piece is to make a doll that can move, without being a true ball-jointed doll OR having the points of failure that a wireframe doll would have.
If anyone has done something similar but has a better way to go about it, please comment.

Does anyone else like to put fancy dishes and useful things in storage so other people will get a nice gift?

I am but a humble peddler of hot meals to cold travelers. Lowk tempted to completely fill one with with the kitty bento box.

Can I prevent them from chewing cords?

Hello all, my boyfriend and his roommate got two new kittens this morning. They are EXTREMELY well-mannered, litter box trained, socialized, do not bite, do not scratch, and aren’t particularly scared of us. They’re absolute little angels, genuinely, but right off the bat they became interested in electrical cords soon after being brought into the home. I’ve moved all the chargers and plugs that I could out of the way, but they’ve been sitting under the TV and putting the cords for it and the PlayStation in their mouths.
They will leave it if we catch them in the act, but I’m worried they’re going to sit there chewing through cords while everyone is asleep. We have no way of fully blocking off the electronics, is there a way to discourage them from continuing the habit?

Anyone know a Konjac jelly brand WITHOUT sucralose?

I really want to try the konjac jelly snacks you see in Asian markets, I’ve heard they’re very good for helping you feel full between meals and and for adding more fiber to your diet, but every single brand I’ve seen both in person and online uses sucralose/artificial sweeteners, which make me extremely sick and give me a killer migraine. Can anyone recommend a brand that DOESNT use artificial sweeteners? It’s ok if it doesn’t taste quite as good, I just really cannot do sucralose.

Work in progress sculpture of Grace

Everything is solid color and not painted yet, I still have a little bit of refining to do for the face (please ignore the eyebrows they’re just placeholder.) and I have to add her bandages.

Is it worth it to make a PayPal business account?

I’m a very, very small artist, I genuinely do not make enough money for the government to care. PayPal personal gives out my real, legal name, which I really don’t want for safety reasons, so people have been suggesting that I make a business account.
I’m kinda scared to do that though? I don’t consider myself a business, I’ve never broken even, the amount I charge comes out to far under min wage, and I just use the payments I get for comms and merch to fund making more art. I’m really just a hobbyist.
Is there anything I should be concerned about legally? I’ve heard paypal doesn’t report taxes if you make under 20,000 a year, and I don’t get even close to that. I would like to be a full fledged, profitable business one day, but for now I’m just trying to get my foot in the door and need a safe way to take payments, but it’s not worth it if it’s going to suck me into a bunch of legal trouble.

Will getting banned on Kofi affect my paypal accounts?

My understanding, if I'm not mistaken, is that Kofi and PayPal are owned by the same parent companies. This has made me fearful that future strikes on kofi will affect my connected paypal account, which I use for EVERYTHING including paying subscriptions, receiving payment for commissions and selling artist alley merch. Do these companies share strike lists? if I am struck on a platform like kofi, do they ban the email, or do they go so far as to keep track of which bank account was being used?

Related topic- I have been hate-stalked recently by someone that went through all my linked social medias and spammed threats, hate messages, and reports. If someone like that went to my kofi and reported me, how good is Kofi about handling false reports?

Would you recommend r1999 to a Hoyo player?

I'm pretty interested in playing, but I have only ever played Hoyoverse games and Wuwa, would Reverse gameplay feel intuitive to me or would I be way out of my depth and lost?
Hows the combat system? I have some permanant damage to my left hand and really struggle with games that rely on more complicated combos. Whats the quality of life like? How generous is the gacha? Is powercreep a big issue or can I ftp?

Also *very* important to me: how friendly and active is the fandom? Is it supportive of artists? I get kinda bummed out on games where I try and make fanart and the fandom is super inactive.

Are there any good voice changers WITHOUT AI?

I dislike my natural voice and think it could be fun to use a voice changer to better suit my Vtuber. I know for a fact there used to be good voice changers out there, but since AI has been getting added to everything I cant find a single program thats NOT AI driven. Old reddit threads listing voice changers for streaming are now useless because the go-to's listed on them have all switched to using AI. I'm looking for something that can change my voice in real time for streaming. I use OBS, can anyone point me in the right direction?

Local used bookstore offered us $50. My mother is wondering if anyone would want to beat that offer. We’re in North Alabama.

Advice for cleaning the estradiol applicator?

Hello, I’m not menopausal, (I’m 24) but I was prescribed estradiol cream, which is normally given to menopausal women, so I thought y’all might have some experience with this issue. The cream came with a plastic plunger that is very similar to a tampon applicator, but I’m having trouble getting it clean in a way that feels sanitary. Instructions say to clean it with hot water and soap, but there’s still a ring of the cream being left just inside the applicator. I’m supposed to use this cream long-term, but it feels like this applicator will never be fully sanitary and I’m worried about giving myself an infection. I’m going to try cleaning it out with a Q-tip, but are there are other ways of effectively cleaning it? It says specifically no boiling.
Sorry I didn’t really know how to flair this post, but I’m so getting put into pelvic floor physical therapy so I tagged pelvic floor..?

Options for making eyes without resin?

Hi all, I make art dolls. Previously I would use the method o sculpting an eye with polyclay and then filling the lenses with resin, but I've now developed an allergy to resin and cannot use it. can y'all comment with suggestions on how to achieve a similar look without resin? i've heard of using sculpy liquid with a heat gun and may try that next. glass cabachons do not come small enough for me to use that method.

I’ve been waiting months for these!!! I’m so happy

I made a post on here some time ago talking about minature roses. But as soon as I put my mind to getting myself some, suddenly no store carried them! But to my great joy today they were in stock for Memorial Day so I grabbed 4 different colors. 🥳🥳🥳. I’m still on the hunt for purple but I haven’t seen any anywhere for over a year now I think.

They look super healthy, no dead leaves, no speckles or disease spots, but they are VERY overwatered (soil was visibly wet, and water POURED out of the pot when I removed the decorative wrap.) so I’m a little concerned for the integrity of the root system.

I immediately put them on the covered back porch (second pic) to start getting them used to sun, and will be replanting them outdoors as soon as my strained wrist heals. (And as soon as this HUGE storm finishes doing its thing, we’re in for another week of flooding.)

I do have a question for you experienced rose keepers if anyone sees this: what part of the yard should I plant them in? The previous owner left full sized roses along the fence line. The left side of the yard is shaded by trees, and is where the rainwater runs off and saturates during heavy storms, the rose there seems healthy, with good foliage. The right side of the yard is full sun all day long, and is dry. The roses there seem to be struggling, however, this could be due being neglected and allowed to go lanky, plus they had such large amounts of blooms this year that it seems to have affected the health of the plants, and we had unseasonably dry and extremely hot weather for weeks right after.

Found in my yard after very heavy rains (North Alabama, USA)

I’ve found several of these mushrooms in my yard just now, we have dogs that like to eat random things so I pulled them up to prevent a vet visit in case they’re poisonous. Not a great idea to touch things bare handed I know but I washed my hands extremely thoroughly afterwards.
I have never in my life seen a mushroom that looks like this, they range from pale yellow to orange, are a hollow tube when broken, and are a VERY porous, light spongy material rather than the dense foamy feel of most of the ones I’ve seen before. Red clay soil, Full sun area of the yard, no trees, but they’re around and in a decayed pine mulch bed.
Would love to know if/how poisonous they are so I know how vigilant I need to be in pulling them up.

Is there a term for VNs that play straight through and only have one ending? Will people be mad if there’s only one ending?

I started learning Renpy because I was frustrated with the limits of comics, and I’m not yet good enough at animation to commit to a full animated series.
Because of this though, all my works were intended as linear stories with one ending.
I’m kinda worried that people will start playing my vis novels and be disappointed that they can’t affect anything. So far I’ve added a couple player choices, but they just change the dialogue for that scene and don’t actually have impact on the game long term.
Is there a word I can use for tagging/search engines so people know right off the bat what’s up?
The stories are largely going to be free/pay-what-you-want, so it’s not like anyone will be angry about “wasting money” or something, but I don’t want someone going in thinking the game is something it’s not and coming away disappointed.

Years ago I was recommended Picarto as an artist-centric streaming platform, thought “oh cool!” Made an account, and honestly forgot it existed.

Fast forward to like two weeks ago, my friend and I are running an artist alley booth at a convention, and this guy starts chatting with us about a streaming platform he’s trying to promote. Imagine my surprise when the business card he hands us is for Picarto.

This got me looking back into the site, but no one talks about it, there’s no official subreddit, the unofficial subreddit hasn’t been touched for 3+ years.

The site isn’t dead dead, there’s still people streaming on it, is it just super small? Is it worth it to try streaming on? I’m really sick of other platforms.

My friend has applied for an artist alley booth (I would be coming as her booth assistant) at Yamacon in Pigeon Forge, Tennessee, but my family is worried that it may not be safe or worth going due to weather. The event is in early December, I've visited the area during Thanksgiving/November with family and seen just how badly the region gets snowed/iced over at the drop of a hat. its a little worrying.
Has anyone in this sub attended this event? how miserable is the weather? how enjoyable/quality is the event? Is the artist alley well organized/tolerable or not worth the trip?
