Very important question: How many are too many?

The correct answer is always n+1.

[Citizen AT8238] A love letter to the watch that made me properly respect Citizen

I have to admit something: Citizen surprised me.

I always knew Citizen made good watches.
Eco-Drive, radio control, titanium, sapphire, world time. On paper, it all sounds extremely sensible. Almost too sensible. The kind of watch you buy with your brain, not necessarily with your heart.

And then I got this one.

At first glance, it should almost be too much. World time bezel, subdials, day display, radio control, Eco-Drive text, titanium, city codes, time zone markings, there is a lot going on. But somehow, it all works. Nothing feels random. Everything has a job.

The white dial, the black bezel, the titanium case and bracelet, it has this great mix of technical, sporty and slightly over-engineered Japanese madness. It looks like it was designed by someone with a calculator, a pilot’s license, three coffees, and absolutely no interest in making a boring watch.

And the weird thing is: it wears much better than it should.
It looks substantial, but because it’s titanium, it is ridiculously comfortable.
Every time I pick up a steel watch after wearing this, I suddenly understand why titanium people never shut up about titanium. Light, comfortable, practical and still serious enough to feel like a proper watch.

And then there is Eco-Drive and radio control.
No winding.
No battery anxiety.
No wondering if it is running fast or slow.
No drama.

It just sits there, charges from light, syncs itself, and quietly does its job like a tiny wrist-mounted public servant from Japan.

That is what I really love about this watch: it is not trying to be romantic in the traditional watch-nerd way. It doesn’t need a display caseback, a fragile movement, or a story about heritage to be impressive.

It is impressive because it is useful.
It is accurate.
It is light.
It is solar.
It is radio controlled.
It has world time.
It has sapphire.
It has titanium.

And somehow, despite all that pure practicality, it still has character.

For me, this is the kind of watch that makes Citizen special. Not loud luxury.
Not hype.
Not flexing.
Just a ridiculous amount of real-world watchmaking packed into something you can actually wear every day.

And maybe that is the point.

Some watches make you admire them. Some make you baby them. Some make you check the time and then stare at them for another ten seconds.
This one makes me trust it.

It feels like a watch built by people who actually cared about daily life: accuracy, comfort, durability, legibility, convenience. Not just specs for a brochure, but things that matter when you actually wear the thing.

It is not the most emotional watch in the traditional sense. It is not trying to be vintage, delicate, luxurious or poetic. But after wearing it for a while, I think that is exactly why I like it so much.

It is a serious watch without taking itself too seriously.
Is it perfect?
Maybe not.
But honestly, it is much closer than I expected.

Love-Letter-End.
👋

One of my AE1200s just got a 316L steel case.

Gotta get another bracelet, but overall, the 5th AE1200 now has a steel-case.

Hello Citizen BY1030-09A

Picked this up today.
I wasn’t sure about it from the photos, but in person it’s a different story. The dial has a lot more depth than I expected, and the blue strap complements it nicely.
Very happy with it so far.

Happy Thursday. What are you wearing?

Citizen AT8238-84A 🇯🇵
Titanium case & bracelet, sapphire crystal, Eco-Drive, radio-controlled, world time. Hard to beat as an everyday watch.

Casio, please do us (me) a favor and make this: AE-1200 Titanium, Tough Solar, Multiband 6 and Moon Phase

Obviously an AI-generated concept, not a real watch or physical mod.

But honestly, Casio: please give the Royale the premium treatment it deserves.
Titanium, sapphire crystal, Tough Solar, Multiband 6 and moon phase, while keeping the original size and character.

Would you buy it? And what would be a realistic price?
I'd love it.

My little collection of things I like and use

My little collection of things I actually use.
No safe queens.
No investment pieces.
No hype purchases.
Just watches I enjoy wearing.

Citizen [AT8238-84A] in the house.

Just arrived today – my new Citizen AT8238-84A.

First impression: this thing is ridiculously light. Almost so light that my brain initially associated it with feeling cheap.
Titanium really takes some getting used to.

Sized the bracelet, put it on the wrist and… yeah. I think I get it now.

Eco-Drive, radio controlled, world time, sapphire and titanium. A lot of tech packed into a surprisingly light watch.

And that white dial looks much better in real life than in the product photos.
So far, I really like it. 👌

A Loveletter to the AE1200: The cheap little watch that somehow beats them all

I own a decent little pile of watches (imho, for me).

Seiko Presage, Orient Kamasu, other Seikos, Kinetics, Casios, Casio Duros, Militados, Watchdives, Vostoks/Komandirskie/perpetual Calendar, Citizen Eco-Drives, G-Shocks and a few other things that somehow appeared in my drawer because apparently “just one more watch” is a valid life philosophy.

And I genuinely like them all.

I wear different watches for different moods, different clothes, different occasions, different excuses. Some are nicer. Some are tougher. Some are objectively better finished. Some have sapphire, automatic movements, solar charging, better bracelets, more “watch nerd credibility”.

But something is going on.

Whenever I come home from work, whenever the serious part of the day is over, whenever I just want to live my life without thinking about the watch on my wrist and forget about it - the AE1200 goes on.

Every time.

Cooking? AE1200.
Walking around the house? AE1200.
Doing random errands? AE1200.
Sitting on the couch pretending I won’t buy another watch? AE1200.
Whirlpooling in the garden? AE1200.
Working out in the gym? AE1200.
And so on.

It is light. It is fun. It is comfortable. It looks ridiculous in the best possible way. It just works. The battery lasts forever, the functions are actually useful, and the whole thing costs less than pretty much every strap i own.

And the world time function is not just a gimmick for me. My mother lives in Brazil and I visit her once a year. Having her time zone always there on my wrist is weirdly comforting. It makes this cheap little digital watch feel more personal than many “better” watches I own.

That’s the magic of it i think.

It doesn’t try to be luxury.
It doesn’t try to impress anyone.
It doesn’t need a romantic story about heritage, finishing, polishing, or “in-house” anything.

It is just a brilliant, funny, useful little machine that gives you an absurd amount of watch for almost no money.

Is it perfect? No.

Is it almost perfect? Honestly, yes.

The Casio AE1200 is one of those watches that reminds you that joy in watches does not have to be expensive, serious, mechanical, rare, or approved by watch snobs.

Sometimes the best watch is the one you actually wear.

And for me, very often, that watch is the AE1200.
