psypost.orgSitting with our feelings to heal requires time and a calm environment, the privileges many people lack, forcing them to escape pain rather than process it.
Something happened which made me feel very sad and very lonely. I felt, "I'm on my own." I was miserable. And I started eating dinner.
So, I was eating while feeling all that. I was in that state. After a few moments, gradually I started feeling better. And then, when I realized that, I was reminded of something we all read on the internet "Sit with discomfort," "Sit with the pain," "Sit with those painful feelings and emotions"......... You must have understood what I mean. So, these things were in my head.
And I remembered that I tried this already many times, but I also remembered that there's a possibility we would keep on ruminating instead of just sitting with the storm and pain. And then I questioned myself, "Should I do something while sitting with the pain which would prevent the rumination if it happens?"
This is just a question I had which I'm just mentioning. This is not the thing I realized.
What I realized is that I calmed down and felt better not just because of sitting or eating; it's because I had time, free and leisure time, precisely, where I could eat slowly without any urgency or any disturbance in my environment.
And I was reminded of what I learned about other people in general, that people like to escape or distract themselves from the pain, the mental pain caused by those emotions and feelings. There are hundreds of ways for that, for example, substance abuse.
And then I understood that even if people want to sit with that pain instead of escaping, it still won't be possible for them to do that simply due to a lack of time. I mean to say, healing mentally isn't instantaneous. It takes time. What if a person has no time, unfortunately? It could be due to responsibilities, obligations, duties, or simply chores. So, they would have no choice but to simply resort to other ways, which is nothing but escaping, as I already mentioned. Processing requires time, doesn't it?
So the conclusion is, to manage emotions and feelings, and to recover and heal mentally, we require luck. I mean not lottery luck; it's just simple factors like time, an environment without any disturbance, and others...
So, I wondered how many people whom we see escaping from the pain without being with it are simply unlucky. For example, we could be calling some of them judgmentally as "junkies." I'm just saying, "different people, different stories." and "we never know "as they say. In other words, what we think of others are just assumptions and opinions, may not be the facts.
People may not find this interesting, but I do. I'm just sharing. Sharing my thoughts.

Is this a man or a woman? Don't scroll to second picture.
I'm a beginner. I am not good at drawing. I'm aware of that. I'm simply sharing what I drew.

I’m so sorry in advance for my drawing. I’m a beginner
I just tried drawing IU after I came across her picture while i was searching for a pic to draw something. I'm just sharing it. I am not good at drawing at all. I am aware of that. I don't usually draw at all. :)
I don't know how to draw. Just tried something.
I'm not good at drawing at all. Drawing is not a hobby of mine and I don't usually draw anything.
However, someone on Reddit shared one of their drawings with me, and a few hours later, I felt inspired to draw something myself.
So, I went to Pinterest and tried to draw Natalie Portman. I know there is hardly any similarity between my drawing and her, but that's fine.
I just wanted to share it.
Edit: I should have mentioned the drawing I was shown as well. It was a realistic portrait, and it was just too good, it's absolutely flawless and perfect.
I guess that's what inspired me to try drawing a face myself, even though I was fully aware that portrait drawing requires a lot of skill and is highly complex.
I actually expected people to either ignore my post or mostly make fun of what I drew, and I was ready to join in and laugh at myself too..... but I was completely wrong. I'm extremely surprised to see all of you cheering me on, being sweet, and staying so supportive. I didn't expect any of this at all. It feels like a rare, positive space on the internet, and I'm really glad I shared it.
Funnily enough, I only came across these subreddits yesterday when I was looking for places to suggest to that person, just in case she ever wants to share her own drawings.
