I currently have the MPC Live 3, but I’m considering getting the XL and keeping both.

The XL would be the main brain in my studio, with my TR-1000, AstroLab, and Live 3 connected to it. I’d probably have the Live 3 synced to the XL.

I’m still pretty new to the MPC world, but the workflow and extra controls on the XL look appealing to me. My Live 3 stays plugged in most of the time anyway, so I feel like the XL could make more sense for my studio setup.

At the same time, I really like the portability of the Live 3. I work retail, so I could bring it to work and make some drums during my break, then continue working on the XL when I get home.

Is anyone here actually using both regularly? I’m curious how people work between them and whether they sync well together. I’m mainly looking to hear from people who have a real use for both, not people who just own both for the sake of owning them lol.

I’m using the Franklin SS-6 to connect everything, and I’m tempted to expand the set up. :)

I mainly use step sequencing, so I’m wondering if the MPC XL is really worth it for me.

When I saw the XL videos showing the 16-step sequencer buttons and the 16 Q-Link knobs, I thought it might be somewhat similar to the workflow of a Cirklon, and that made me seriously consider getting one.

However, after watching a lot of videos, it seems that the 16 Q-Link knobs can only be used to control velocity in the Step Sequencer. For things like note values, prob, nudge, etc., you still have to go into the Step Edit menu and use the touchscreen, right?

If that’s the case, I’m wondering whether the XL actually offers much of an advantage over the MPC Live 3 for someone who mainly uses step sequencing.

Do you think this is something that could potentially be improved in a future update, or would it be difficult to implement? For example, would something like this require a major change to the OS or the underlying architecture?

Hi everyone, am I wrong or should the Juna plug-in, etc. be free with the MPC live 3? I’m still getting trial version.
