Why I liked original Carry on Jatta

I have seen Carry on jatta more times than i have seen its sequels combined. I watxhed it in my office in 2012 and everyone asked me what i m watchung and suddenly people from Rsjastha, Orrisa, west bengal,Jammu etc were watching it.

I watched it again 2 days ago and want to write on how different it is from sequels and why i liked it

Simple setting: Entire movie was set in Jalandhat and barely had about 5 sets. Surrounding felt real compared to more elaborste settings in sequels

Dialogues: diolagues in the sequels are way too loud compared to original. No one is really shouting. It feels like real conversation even at the end. Even Karamjit Anmol who played caricaturish role in the sequels was playing role of normal person

No slap stick: there is no physical comedy. Its all situation and script driven.

Will Dhurandhar have an impact of portrayal of Pakistanis in future movies?

Dhurandhar avoids all thee token good teammate, magical negro, noble demon tropes. U never see a good or normal Pakistani in both movies. Even Zayn is never shown with other kids. Even movies like Border and Gadar had a token normal Pakistani .

When Ikkis was released, it was criticised ( to put it mildly) for showing a Pakistani in good light. They had to put disclaimer. It flopped massively despite getting praised by Army Chief himself.

Alpha had to run a campaign to tell that there is no Indo Pak angle. .

Mai Wapis aaoonga has been criticised for this.

Will it affect future movies?

Imagine following scenarios

Portrayal of Abdul Sattar Edhi in a movie based on Geeta( mute girl stranded in Pakistan)

Characterisatiin of Arshad Nadeem in Neeraj Chopra biopic.

Mention of Karnal Sher khan in a movie based on Kargil war.

Mention of Ahsaan Malik in Border 3

Movie based on love story of Boota Singh and Zainab

Patriot is not a patriotic movie

I watxhed it long time back and stumbled upon it on Netflix a few days back

As per me, title is a misnomer. Its a revenge thriller based in American revolutiom

Mel gibson clesrly ststes that he has no alleigence and doesnt fight because he hss children

Only character who exhibits character of patriotism is Heath Ledger. He fights for principles and hardshiips dont deter him. It would be a much better movie from Hearh ledger POV

Most criticism of Alpha seems entirely unfounded

I didnt find it extra oridinary in any sense but it wasnt half as bad as redditors are sayinf. Some posts are filled with nit picking and absolute hate for Alia. I m pretty sure if it had Sara Arjun or Yami Gautam , Dhurandhar fans would be calling it path breaking and second coming of Angelina Jolie. But it has Alia

Some criticism which i find weird

Copied scene from La Femme Nikita: Indian cinema has been copying since its inception. Even Dada Saheb Phalke wss infkuenced by hollywood. Sholay was copied from seven samurai. Even Sunny Deol copied Slyvester Stallonr in some scenes. Dhurandhar also had scenes which looked like John Wick.

Unrealistic fight scenes: its called suspension of disbelief. Real fights are messy and ugly. Regarding size of Alia bhatt. She has similar built to Ana Taylor Joy, Ana de armas, That girl frkm Extraction. She is just an inch shorter than Scarlett Johannson.

Alia doesnt look 18: she looks younger than her actual age. Its not that Ranveer looked 30 in Dhurandhar. Sje isnt a 50 year old playinf 20 year old.

Absence of Sharvaru: her presence wouldnt have mattered at all.

Rest of criticism is mostly based on using camera tricks to make things look worse than they are.

Redditors are complaning only on basis of Dhurandhar. I like dhurandhar but i dont want all other genres to die. I want a fun popcorn flicks too. I like female action movies and its first proper bollywood one.

It doesnt make sense for Bobby Deol's character to speak Haryanvi in Alpha

I dont like comparison with Dhurandhar. As pe me, its pointless. Its akin to comparing Argo with Winter Soldier. Fight scens were not outstanding but good

But one thing preplexed me is Haryanvi of Bobby deol

I like lord Bobby. I even use soldier's philosphy in my job.

It makes no sense dor him to speak atrocious Haryanvi. If they wanted to make him sound badass, they should have allowed him to speak his mother tongue Punjabi. It would have serves same purpose. If they wanted Haryanvi, they should have hired Randeeo Hooda. He would have nailed it

How many times u read reviews before watching a movie?

One of my fav movies from childhood and teenage years was Rambo 3. I was surprised when i got internet that its not well received. One of my fav action movies is receivwd negatively be reviewers.

Not only me, me and my friends used to watch movies like Die Hard 4, Rambo sequels, Transporter, crank. Wr all enjoyed. While watching Rambo, one person asked me why is he lkke this. I showed famous speech froM First blood. He asked me to stop as it was sort of depressing. Damn, life was so simple before jio.

My point is that different movies serve differrnt purpose and critics mighr see it from.different lense. So, how often u wait for review?

Who are some patriotic or nationalist mutants?

Based on some old banter between The thing and Wolverine.

Logan gets mad at thing when he thinks thst Thing is calling being mutant as diseade but laughs when thing mentions that he was talimg about canadian.

Which mutant will be furious at this comment too?

E.g. if thing says to colossal that Russia is a disease, how would he react?

Black Noir was also evil

Some audience sympathise with him due to what Soldier boy did to him

But it dowsnt mean he was innocent. He waa equal partner to all HL crimes. He killed innocents to hide HL mistales and have been tool of Vought. Whatevrr SB did to him, he ha done worsw

How were the rules of wars enforced?

Some of the rules look really cumbersome to follow

One rule thats hard to follow is "one warrior will only fifht one warrior and of same ranking"

But how was this enforcwd

Whst would happen to a warrior who cant find a warrior of same ranking? Will he just wander on battlefield to find a warrior who is free for deul?

Who kept the list of ranking?

Doesnt this make strength of useless? Imagine British are stopled from enforcinf blockade againzt Germany in world war 1?

If it was really a rule, then why were there so many group attacks? Werent pandavas also attacking Jaydrath ar the samr time Abhimanyu was being attacked?

Obsession remake in Pollywood

I have not watched the movie yet due to constraints but i have read the reviews(spoiler free) and watched its trailer. Just for fun, i want to post if it is to be remade in Pollywood

Budget shouldnt be an issue. Even in absolute terms and not counting PPP model, it can easily be made on Punjabi movie budget. I know that gore wont be allowed in Punjabi cinema but there was a supernatural episode with similar plot with light3r tone. In that episode, sam and dean make the boy see folly in his ways and girl leaves after the magic wears off. She doesnt recognise the boy and she just leaves. He is heartbroken but learns his lesson. This can easily be made in Punjab.

My cast

Gitaz Bindrakhia as love stricken man who is in love with girl in his office who doesnt rven know he exists.

Nikeet Dhillon as a strong independent and ruthleas girl . She is a go getter who is known in the company for these attributes. This explains how she turns into psychopath due the magic. She stops at nkthing to get what she desires. Magic enhances this trait of her.

Why do we copy popular moviws of the south when we can copy small budget indie moviws of Hollywood?

Bhajji in Problem is underrated movie.

I watched it after a long time on netflix, i think its prettt funny and simple movie. Stae cast was pretty good. Om Puri's lasr Punjabi movie. I remember i was eatching it with my friends back then and asked them to come at my marrriage with 2100 rupee shagun inspired by ending.

It captured spirit of Carry on Jatta better than sequels.

Treatment of female characters needs to evolve

I watched a movie Jatt nu chudail takri this week out of boredom. One scene where Gippy just beats up the Sargun and she forgets all her powers and start acting like scaredy cat. This was the most illogical scene in any gippy movie which says a lot. Then i thought, why femsle characters are as weak in Punjabi cinema in evrry manner. I think better portrsyal of female leads can change a lot in Punjabi cinema

Some of the common characterstics that i have noticed in most of movies and songs.. Exceptions can exist like Surkhi Bindi which perhaps had the most likable leads.

Always a homemaker, nevrr a working woman. I think Surkhi Bindi was the last time to festure a woman working

She belongs to rich family. Its stereotypical "papa ki pari". Poor and middle class girls perhaps dont exist.

She happily leaves her fsmily and life behind for the ML. It commendable on how essily she adopts into village life which vastly different

She doesnr drive any narration forward. In q movie starrinf Guri and Jagjit Sidhu, female lead trains to take revenge but reducdd to irrelevancy jn the end. Her revenge isnt even her own.

She is stupif and falls for either losers or toxic males. She csn nevrr be attracted to normal males.

She always dress in Punjabi suits. Casual wears are banned for them.

I m a belief that development of any cinema can be messured by its treatment of female characters.

I m not saying Pollywood can make Atomic Blonde or Erin Brokovich

But

I think focus on female characters can provide mkre opportunities for storytellong. There was a movid Carry on Jattiye announnced but i think it hss been cancelled.

Did 36000 Mughals really surrender at battle of Dewair?

This version looks too fantastical to me. It basically says Rana Pratap attacked Mughal forces( which are stated to be 100k at some places) qoth 20000 soldiers and somehow killed 64000 and still had enough forces to.hold 36000 soldiers captive. Shouldnt los8ng these many soldiers be devaststing blow for any medival force. But Mughql empire was not only remained strong but also expanded.

Superman becoming evil because of Lois Lane's death is stupid

Superman is supposed to be symbol of hope in DC. But the moment Lois lane dies, he forgets everythung. He forgets his own words, hus upbringings, fsmilies and friends.

In DCEU, he joins Darksied after lois death and destroys entire humanity. He come across as a person with low EQ who cant handle loss properly.

Superman and Lois did it well. Clark continued on helping people even after lois died and didnt become a maniav.
