The Filipina star showcased fearless tennis on one of the sport’s biggest stages, defeating current World No. 3, Iga Świątek in a thrilling battle to book her place in the Round of 16 at Wimbledon.

She will next face Jasmine Paolini, whom she previously defeated earlier this year in Feb at the Dubai Duty Free.

The opening set was pure drama. Every game felt like a tug of war, with neither player willing to give an inch. Eala matched Iga Świątek shot for shot, forcing a nerve wracking tiebreak that had fans on the edge of their seats. Eala even earned set points, but Świątek’s championship composure showed through in the biggest moments as she edged the tiebreak.

Alex Eala stormed into the Round of 32 after an impressive comeback victory over Australia's Maya Joint, 3-6, 6-2, 6-0.

Meanwhile, former World No. 1 and defending Wimbledon champion Iga Świątek advanced with a commanding 6-1, 6-3 win over Karolína Plíšková.

The two have already met twice on the WTA Tour, with their head-to-head tied at 1-1. Eala stunned Świątek with a 6-2, 7-5 upset at the 2025 Miami Open before the Polish star bounced back with a 4-6, 6-4, 6-2 victory at the Mutua Madrid Open.

Now, with a place in the Round of 16 at stake, Eala looks to continue her remarkable Wimbledon run, while Świątek aims to keep her title defense alive.
