Puddle light degradation?

For those of you who have the aftermarket puddle lights, have you noticed the crispness of the image breaking down over time? It's not clear if it's melting or maybe some moisture got into it?

Am I crazy thinking there's a ton of extra cops for this year's 5th Ave fair?

I get cops are needed to shut the streets and direct traffic and all, but walking the length of the fair today I was surprised that just about every intersection had *four* patrol cars, each idling with a cop inside.

In previous years' events, those NYPD blue barriers seemed to do the job just fine and you'd only see a cruiser every so often. Was there some security threat to justify the cost of having so many extra officers on hand?

Just took care of the install following the guide over here and wanted to call out a few things to anyone else planning to do it:

It took me maybe 2 hours because I was taking my time, but just about everything was seamless. All the existing panels popped out with ease and the kit parts fit like they belonged there. All I needed was a Phillips #2 and needle nose pliers, to remove a few clips.

The 6 screws you need to find are under floor of the armrest box, just in front of it, and all the way in the front, attached to that cross member under the HVAC controls.

The only things that gave me trouble were:

  1. swapping the stock AC splitter (the black box plugged into the Y shaped thing in front of the shifter) as the rear clips were very hard to release. I ended up breaking them, and likewise putting the new one in took more effort than expected to snap the rear clips on.

  2. after you pull the whole console out, you need to take off the back (non-vent) panel first, which will reveal a couple of screws holding the long side pieces on. Remove those and push the storage box up from the bottom (or pull the side pieces down) to release.

  3. when you remove the console box (3rd pic), it's important that you swap over this wire and pill shaped component (4th pic) to the new storage box. Likewise, when plugging everything in at the end, make sure you don't miss the plug for a similar component that is on the passenger side, just under the cup holder. Both of these are antennas for your keyless entry system, and without both of them connected, you will immediately get an "Smart Entry System Error, please see dealer" on the dashboard

The last pic is not mine, but it's from the Civicxi forum for someone else who ran into the same issue if it helps.

  1. when you swap over the top of the armrest to the new console box, look at the curved arms for the armrest. You'll see that they end in a little tabs that line up with part of the console box. Looking at the rear of the console box, align those tabs with where they nest in the console, and then push the whole thing down so that the spring is under a little compression. I found it a lot easier to screw the armrest plate into the new console like that.

  2. the milkstore kit comes with a black, T-shaped plastic retainer pin. I didn't know what it was for until finally aligning the main vent tube with the bracket needed to support the smaller storage box. The bracket has three holes, the lower ones go into the body of the car, and, after you feed the tube through the bracket, you'll see that the extra bracket hole aligns with a hole in the tube; pull the tube a little towards the rear of the car and slot that pin through. It's to keep the whole thing from moving around.

Closing thought:

Much as I'm happy with the vents now, as the first pictures show, it's also kind of nice how open the Civic feels without the console in there. Maybe there's a mod opportunity for someone in the future?

This is my first time considering changing from stock wheels on any car, and I've only just learned that I can vary more than sidewall— I can get tires of the exact same width.

I'm on the 195/55R16 on the 2016 EX, hoping to go down to the 6" wide, aerodynamic 15" Civic Hybrid wheels both for looks and for a softer ride. Hoping to keep a similar enough outer diameter so my speedo stays mostly accurate.
