yt-dlp only shows 360p as the highest audio+video quality despite having ffmpeg installed

I'm on Debian Linux and I have ffmpeg installed, but yt-dlp shows a bunch of audio-only formats, and video-only formats, with 360p being the only audio+video format it shows.

I read you need ffmpeg installed to download audio and video separately for higher resolutions, and have the two merged into one file automatically.

But I already have ffmpeg installed and I don't see any options for higher quality audio+video. Do I need to point yt-dlp to ffmpeg somehow, or use a specific command, in order to use the two software together?

FortNine with an amusing video about how the MTB industry went in circles solving a problem that created a new problem, that was solved by giving up on the original problem

FortNine usually posts motorcycle content but I thought this was still worth posting here despite the obnoxiously long ad from 1:25 to 4:10, so feel free to skip that part.

I've been riding hills and mountains on a $50 low-engagement Shimano rear hub for years and, honestly, it's been fine. I never really noticed the "problem" until it was pointed out to me by others who insist it's a big issue. Added bonus: my hub doesn't sound like a loud swarm of angry bees while coasting.

But, hey, what do I know? I use a $50 low-engagement hub so I must be a n00b. Let's create $300 hubs that solve that huge problem, but introduce pedal kickback, and then create $500 hubs to solve pedal kickback, while reintroducing pedal slop. That's the cost of my entire hardtail that I've been happily riding for years.

Oh and now hubs sound like a loud swarm of angry bees, because obviously that will keep hikers and other trail-goers happy and win them over to the pro-cycling side during local debates about trail access.

So, long story short, just ignore the ads and marketing hype. Instead of being told what is and isn't a problem, determine that for yourself. Anyway, here's a 150-second ad.

Front derailleur would not shift up from the smallest chainring, but it wasn't a snapped cable. Has anyone here encountered this?

Front shifter is Shimano Alivio SL-M430 "rapid fire" flatbar shifter, front derailleur is Shimano Acera FD-M390.

An hour into my ride yesterday my front derailleur wouldn't shift out from the smallest chainring, the same way it won't when a cable is snapped. But I know it's not a snapped cable because the problem somehow resolved itself after 5 minutes, and shifting resumed to normal. It then happened again a half hour later, again for a few minutes before reverting to normal functioning, so I'd like to try to figure out what's going on.

When the shifter was doing this, it was stuck on the position for the lowest chainring, which doesn't happen with a snapped cable as that wouldn't stop the shifter lever from moving up and down to other positions. It was very firmly stuck even when applying lots of pressure to it, but I didn't want to fully force it and break something. But then the problem would somehow resolve itself (I think the first time it happened I wasn't even touching the shifter) and shift normally.

Has anyone encountered this and can tell me what causes it and/or how to fix it?

How much is an authentic woobie supposed to weigh?

I've been using an old "woodlands" pattern woobie for years that I believe was a knock-off by a company called Medals Of America, but regardless it was pretty good. It weighs 860 grams.

My new woobie has the newer digital camo pattern and is made by Winston-Salem Industries For The Blind. It's claimed to be authentic (the Amazon product description says "UCP/ACU - NSN: 8405-01-547-2559 (Or similar)") but I was surprised to see it only weighs 590 grams.

Does an authentic woobie really weigh 590 grams? That is 270 grams less padding than my previous one.

[Video] What is going on with my rear derailleur?

Mid-ride I noticed my chain was extremely slack, and the shifting was acting strange. It still transferred power to the wheel while pedaling so I was able to keep going, but something is clearly wrong here.

My dad thinks it's just gummed up and we need to disassemble it and clean it, but neither of us worked on derailleurs so can somebody please advise:

  • what is the problem
  • what specific part(s) need to be looked at
  • can it be maintained or does something need to be replaced
  • when reassembling it what parts, if any, need grease

Thanks in advance.
