First time shirtless outside since top surgery in Dec 2024

Went for a night time swim with my boyfriend, best friend, and her boyfriend. It was so freeing to finally be able to be shirtless in public, but also scary.

OSAP application help

Is there anyone at fanshawe that would be able to help with understanding my OSAP application? Is that something disability services could help with?

I need to provide documents of my academic progress, I just finished my certificate program in april but have not received any documentation of that in the mail.

My spot at my little sister’s graduation 😂

The spot they reserved for me, the only wheelchair user there, at my sisters grad. 😂 super grateful the school has always been accommodating of me at events

ODSP daily pay?

I received this today, and I’ve never gotten it before and there’s no explanation on my benefits page. Yay money, but is this a mistake? Nothing has changed recently

Update: I figured out what it’s for, it’s to help cover the cost of my driving assessment for hand controls

Recognizing body cues

I’m a full time manual wheelchair user with unknown progressive loss of sensation and function below the waist.

The past year my bladder and bowel control and sensation has gotten a lot worse, but I still have a bit of control.

The past few weeks the only cues I’ve been getting that I need to use the bathroom is an increase in blood pressure and heart rate, a headache, and increased spasms.

It’s been very difficult trying to learn these new cues so I’ve had a lot of accidents recently. Could anyone share their tips in learning their body’s new cues?

Wheelchair accessible rentals

I’m looking for housing (rental, likely apartment) that is both affordable and wheelchair accessible, but I’m having a lot of trouble. Could someone help point me in the right direction of some cheaper apartments or apartments you know are accessible?

I’m disabled and my boyfriend lives with me as my caregiver. I will be attending Fanshawe full time in September, so being near the college or a bus route would be nice. We would like pets in the future, but we are not in a financial situation where that’s responsible right now.

Requirements:
- 1 bedroom
- wheelchair accessible
- under $1,700
- accessible laundry room
-near Fanshawe or bus route

Would be nice:
- 2 bedroom or 1 bedroom + den
- dishwasher
- washer/dryer
- balcony
-bike room
- pet friendly

Case review: been seeing my doctor for less that a year

My ODSP review has come up, but I’ve only been seeing my doctor since September. The only medical professional I’ve seen for more than one year is a social worker and a physical therapist, can they fill out the medical forms?

(Cognitive disability, I apologize if my question has an obvious answer)

Thank you white peach for fueling my rugby tournament

My team won all our games!

I was very disappointed with the discontinuation of the peach nectarine, but white peach fills its place well

Using hand controls as a g1 driver before driving clinic appointment

I’m in Ontario, and as far as I’m aware I’m legally required to have a marker on your license granted from a prescription to use hand controls.

I have a referral to a driving clinic for hand controls, but they told me I need to get my g1 before they’ll book an appointment. They’re also booking into October or November by now.

I have a bunch of friends that have offered to take me out with their hand controls to practice, but can I do that?

Do I really need to have my g1 for 5-6 months before I can even drive?

Could this be why I’m so exhausted constantly?

The orange is me waking up throughout the night. Every night looks similar to this. I have a referral for a sleep study, but I never remember waking up

anyone with a smart watch, what is your most used feature?

I've had an apple watch series 8 and heart rate monitoring is the most used because of tachymon, but other than that I use the "phone ping" feature (idk what it's actually called) at least three times a day because I've lost my phone.

Any other hand cyclers?

I’m a wheelchair user moving to London in a few months and I’m looking for some people to take my Handcycle out with.

I’ve only used it on mostly flat surfaces and haven’t had any success with hills yet. I’m hoping to get out and do some trails this summer, and don’t want to try them alone incase I have issues

Any wheelchair rugby players?

I have FND (diagnosed but suspected misdiagnosis of OTCS), POTs, hEDs, and other comorbid conditions.

I currently play rugby recreationally and I have not been classified yet. I play as a 3.5, but this class is just an estimate from my coach.
I was supposed to be classified a few weeks ago at a tournament in Toronto but they refused to do the classification process because they didn’t know how to class FND.

Another member of my team also has FND, and was given the same excuse.

Are you classified? If so, how did your classification process go?

I’m really trying not to let this deter me too much, but it’s so frustrating and honestly humiliating trying to prove that I’m “disabled enough” when I’m too disabled for the other parasports I’ve tried.
