Do you miss Car Talk?

I found myself feeling pretty nostalgic a few days ago thinking about my early days of driving in the 90's and listening to Click and Clack on NPR every week. Just wondered if any of you older folks use to listen as well?

And for you younger folks who may not have heard of them - you can find their catalog on Youtube and most Podcast platforms. If you're in to cars, you should give these fellas a listen.

I really miss them. 1977-2012.

Did you know that CCSD negotiated, paid for and received access to FLOCK camera surveillance data in LOWES PARKING LOTS - not only in Las Vegas, but also Mineral & Storey Counties, Carson City and even Reno? Wouldn't that money be better spent by investing in safety and education for CCSD students?

Clark County School District actively negotiated with Flock Safety and GOT ACCESS to cameras at Lowes Hardware Stores all across Nevada.

Does anyone else feel like Land Rover has completely lost the plot?

I owned a pair of 99 D2's for years. Still miss them to this day. Never had more fun than taking my family thru the Colorado mountain trails in my old Disco. Driving felt comfortable, capable and confident no matter if i was downtown or down a trail. Sure, they always needed a little work - but honestly that was a small part of the fun.

Over the years I've noticed a steep decline in what I believe a Land Rover is suppose to be. I think they grew to look terrible (although the Defenders are still pretty rad..), I think they are less capable and generally speaking, i don't think that the majority of todays new LR drivers even care if they can go places other cars cant. And then upon seeing these new Range Rover and Freelander models - i just think LR have completely given up trying to be what they once were.. I couldn't be more grossed out by these new releases..

Don't get me wrong. I still love older Land Rovers with all my heart and given the right circumstances i would buy one in a heartbeat. I just wanted to rant and see if i'm not alone in my disdain for what this manufacturer has become.

From Land Rover to Volvo. Sure, it can’t do AS much - but it sure can do enough. 🤍

I posted a few weeks ago about picking up this 200k mile XC70 - and after a few weeks of ownership I gotta say - goddamn I love this wagon.

I’m still chasing down an elusive P2187 code after replacing the PCV system, but otherwise she’s running fine. Took her out to the Nevada desert to see how she does and I am nothing but impressed. Still a lot of work to do to get where I wanna be - but little by little we’ll get there.

Got pulled over for not having plates.

Good news - I dont have plates and i got pulled over!

Just bought a Volvo via private party. Got insured, applied and was approved for a title transfer, registration is submitted via the DMV web portal (waiting for both in the mail) AND i have the temp moving permit until the plates come in - so in the meantime I'm driving (legally) without plates and within a few days of doing all of this (today) i got pulled over. No ticket since it's all on the up and up.

Anyhow, good news considering the fucking constant babble in here about cops doing nothing about unregistered drivers.

Any tips? 2005 XC70 code P2187. (Read body text)

Hi team! Recently posted about getting a new-to-me XC70 as a project car that I plan to built in to a little overland soft-roading desert rat here in Vegas. Per your advice I ran the glove test and failed. I’m starting with replacing the PCV system probably next weekend. However when driving last night I got a CEL and the code came up P2187 - System Too Lean at Idle (Bank 1). Assuming that’s related? If not, what am I looking at there?

Car is at 200k and per the previous owners records the PCV system was “serviced” around 135k. Right now I have no visible oil leaks and no hissing. Should I stop driving until I replace it all or am I OK to keep going until I do?

Thanks for your help!

Howdy folks! Been wanting to join the team for a while. Just picked up this 2005 XC70 in Las Vegas. (Read body text)

Land Rover transplant here. For years I’ve been Volvo-curious and I finally took the plunge. Picked up this XC70 for $1k from a retired aerospace engineer who meticulously maintained it over the years. 3rd photo is the spreadsheet he kept and updated with each service and repair. He also included all service records. Right now she’s sitting at 200k miles and I’m hoping to get at least another 100k out of it - but from what I’ve seen in this sub, I may get even more!

This is gonna be an occasional driver/project car. My goal is to turn this in to an overland/mountain ride for weekend camping and hiking trips. Planning on adding a lift, some A/T tires, roof rack and exterior lamps. The basics for that sort of thing.. however I want to make sure shes mechanically sound before I do any of that.

Super clean inside and out with minor cosmetic wear. The worst is a tiny dent on the driver door and a little whistle coming from the sunroof. Currently runs and drives like a dream! Adding some window tint asap (to beat the Vegas sun) and hopefully a new touchscreen car-play device to replace the very outdated stereo.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

Hi all! Thinking about buying this 2013 LR2. 105k miles. $6k. Hoping to get some advice. What should I look out for?

I previously owned 99 Disco II that I built up and maintained as an overland truck in for many years back when I lived in CO up until about 2018 when the transmission went kaput at about 250k miles. I didn’t have the $ to fix it back then so I sold it off to another disco owner for parts. Sad day.. Since then I’ve been out of the game - but now I live in Vegas and am in the market again although I’m not hard up to buy.. Anywho - I came across this 13’ LR2 with 105k miles and I’m thinking about it. Dealer is suppose to get me the carfax/maintenace history tomorrow when I go for a test drive.

Took a few pics when I went to look at it today. Body is in great shape, fluids are all topped off, starts and runs just fine. Hoses all seem in good shape. No leaks from what I could see. The coolant looks a little sludgy or jelly-like, but may just be from sitting for a while? From what I know there were two previous owners and no accidents. Just wondering what I should look out for with these. Any advice would be appreciated!

La Mujer Murcielago - 4 color screen print to accompany the upcoming book “Luchadores VS Everything”. Edition of x100 w/ 30 ap’s.

La Mujer Murcielago was a 1968 Luchador monster movie starring Maura Monti as the Bat Woman. This print was designed and printed by me as a companion to the upcoming book Luchadores VS Everything - dubbed “the most expansive book on the Lucha film genre ever written". For anyone interested in having one, I do have AP’s - but sorry, the foils are already gone..

MAJOR police activity on Ft Apache + Gowan. Swat, fire & rescue and dozens and dozens of armed agents.

Like 2 blocks from my house. Any news about what’s happening?

Edit: I just got back from Costco and they’re all cleared out. One user gave a bit of a run-down here in the comments - but as of now they’re all gone. Crazy because that was the largest and most aggressive police presence I have ever seen near lone mountain. Long story short, I have a vague idea of what happened and have no idea how it ended. 🤷🏻‍♂️

Went on a little treasure hunt this weekend and ended up in Rhyolite. Didn’t find the gold - but the desert never disappoints. Fantastic little day trip if you want to get out of town for a few.

Background: The plan we had in 2025 was set to increase nearly 400% in 2026 - so during open enrollment in December we changed to a plan with slightly less coverage that was only 100% more because we couldn't afford the 400% increase. Lesser of two evils, i suppose but it was at least manageable..

That new plan became active on 1/26 and was set to expire in 12/26. However - today my auto-pay was drafted at 3 times the amount of what we have been paying so far this year (Jan/Feb/Mar). I called the insurance company to see why - and they told me it was because Nevada Health link submitted a new application on April 1st and that I had to contact them about the change - so i did.

Nevada health link proceeded to tell me that their new "system" will re-assess accounts every 90 days. They confirmed that this is done without any kind of notification and on this particular re-assessment the "system" decided to reduce the tax credit we were given and since it's quarterly, it charged me the pro-rated amount for April with my May bill. My new premium increased by nearly double (again). Neither my income nor my household has changed in any way - we are simply being charged double because their "system" decided to reduce our tax credit - and again, the real kicker.. i was told that it will continue to re-assess it every 90 days. As a user, you cannot enroll in a new plan mid-year - but they can re-enroll you via a new application. The only thing i was told i can do is cancel my plan altogether and go without insurance.

So, for those of you that used Nevada Health Link to enroll in marketplace plans - just a warning to log-in and check your info regularly. Your application can be "reviewed" quarterly without any kind of notification and if their system deems it - your credits can be reduced and you will be charged significantly higher premiums and all you can do it eat it or cancel it.
