Thanksgiving is on full swing in Canada and I made this while on some very mild eddies 🤣

Thanks Costco for saving my ass for dessert tho, can’t stand anymore from all the hours cooking. Love hosting, but I always take an eddie here and there to make it fun.
God I love food 🦃

How can I get my file and trust money from my former lawyer?

I’m about to have a self-represented JPT. I have my disclosure, but I want to get the rest of my file from the lawyer who was previously representing me.
My case has been going on for about three years, and at my last court appearance me and my lawyer agreed that he won’t represent me anymore.

There is still an issue regarding restitution. I disagree with the amount being requested and have been collecting evidence showing that the actual replacement costs may be lower. I want to discuss this with the Crown and the judge at my JPT.

The problem is that I don’t know exactly what my lawyer discussed or negotiated with the Crown as he kept me in the dark all this time. I don’t feel comfortable going into the JPT without knowing what has happened with my case so far.

How do I formally get my complete file from my former lawyer, including correspondence or discussions with the Crown? If he doesn’t provide it before my JPT, what can I do?

Considering becoming a Paralegal (Workers comp, Personal Injury)

Hi!

I’m in my early 30s and I’m seriously considering enrolling in a Paralegal diploma program. It has taken me a while to figure out what type of work I actually enjoy because I’ve worked in a few different industries and found aspects of each that I liked.

My background includes:
-Pharmaceuticals (Patient Support Programs)
-Insurance (Group Benefits and Disability)

My current role is Medical Intake for physicians performing Qualified Medical Evaluations (QMEs), where I interview patients, review medical records, and prepare medical-legal documentation related to workers’ compensation injuries.

I’ve realized that what I enjoy most is the medical-legal side of things such as reviewing medical records, documentation, and understanding the legal aspects of injury claims.

The more I’ve researched the paralegal profession, the more interested I’ve become, particularly in:
Representing clients in WSIB/WSIAT matters, working at a firm specializing in personal injury, insurance companies or even potentially opening my own practice after gaining several years of experience.

For those of you who work in these areas, how are the job prospects? Is this a field you’d recommend entering today? How difficult is it to break into WSIB or personal injury as a new paralegal, and are there any things you wish you had known before starting?
I’d really appreciate any advice or insights from people working in these practice areas. Thanks!

I steal my roommates bottle of wine. I replace it out of guilty with 2

It has made me realize my level of alcoholism but at the same time I’m laughing because they are getting wine? If the bottle is 1/2 done. I replace it with a new one.

AITAH for refusing to host a new friend’s event at my place rooftop?

I recently moved to a new building that has an incredible rooftop, beautiful views heck you can even see one of the WC stadiums. I have partied with this guy about twice, I have invited him and people over (2-3max) as I want to host them and just have a great time. I consider him a new friend, but really have not hangout significantly to consider it a close friendship.

Out of the blue, he sends me a message asking if he could use my rooftop to host an event for 7-8 people tomorrow or Sunday. Clearly, I was taken aback by the request being so bold as we are new friends. I hope I’m not reading too much into it but I wonder if I’m being an AH after all. I’m still in the process of working on placing and keeping boundaries with people because in the past I have been a people pleaser.I barely know this person, it’s my residence, these are my building’s amenities, and I’d be responsible for a group of 7–8 people I may not even know. I’m here laughing at the audacity of some people.

Edit: really appreciate everyone’s input, and made me even see potential dangers I have not even thought about! i told him I can’t, didn’t apologize either but that the building has strict guidelines about guests. Thank you everyone ☺️

I got the job, on my birthday

I cannot explain the level of excitement! When I was thinking that I would have to sublet my place and once again move back to my parents. EI on the verge of ending. I did the last interview and got an offer today on my birthday. It has been a gruesome experience being unemployed and questioning my abilities but I did it! The job market is tough at the moment but trust the process, there id light at the end of the tunnel

I noticed an anti-abortion campaign around the stadium and FIFA Fan Fest. Was it just me, or did it feel really out of place?

I’m not looking to debate whether it’s right or wrong politically. I was just surprised to see people handing out anti-abortion pamphlets around the stadium and Fan Fest. It felt a bit out of place given that everyone was there for a sporting event. Did anyone else notice this, or was it just me?

Am I unreasonable for disliking my date after asked to split the bill?

Usually if I go on a date I don’t mind paying my half as I don’t like to feel I owe something to someone.

We went to two bars. The first one we had one drink each and I ordered the fries which I asked him he could take if he wanted. Then when he went to the washroom I asked for the bill I paid both my drinks and fries.

Bar #2: I ordered a drink and some chicken appetizer. He ordered a drink, 2 other appetizers. He insisted I try his, after all I don’t like pork neither oysters. I took one of each and that’s it. When the bill came, he asked the 3 appetizers to be split in half. Which I found annoying, because I think everyone pays for what they order. I paid anyways but now he wants a second date and I’m not that interested anymore. Am I overreacting?

Also, a couple days later he sends me this video of a guy asking for the bill, when it comes the guy is painting in this colour book and the woman is paying. Apparently is supposed to be funny?
