Found these in my Grandpas stuff when he passed away a few years ago. Not the Northwest Territories one, but the others I have no idea about,

Poutine 47 - The Frying Deutschmann food truck

I’m a bit late on posting this one since food truck wars is over but I might as well put it out there since this food truck is usually at events around the city.

Classic poutine

Fries: they were nice crunchy coated fries. Not sure if they were the fries you get a Costco but I like ‘em. They were seasoned with a good amount of Hy’s season salt or something similar. It was a good combo with the gravy but became a bit too much (see the gravy section).

Gravy: nice thick, salty, beefy gravy. My biggest complaint for this whole poutine would be that there was about half of the gravy amount needed. I chucked around half of the poutine because I ended up with dry super salty fries once I was done the gravy covered fries.

Cheese: nice big chunks, slightly chilled in the middle, just my style. Too few to go around.

Rating would be higher with more gravy and curds.

Dartskins Review

What are they: Dartskins are a sort of canvas/felt material that you pin to your dart board to create new games.

Who are they for?: I thought about this for a while. I really do love darts but have no interest in competing or putting the hours in the improve my game by any significant amount. If I play real dart games I end up playing Cricket and not 01 games because I find 01 games to difficult. I think people who are at a competitive level of darts would find Dartskins games too easy. For the majority of dart board owner who are casual, just play beer level darts with buddies or play with their kids, I think these games are great. They have fun visuals and are casual. You can also bend the rules to suite lower skill levelled players.

Price: I paid $80 CAD for a set of 5 games. This seemed like a lot of money for something that will wear out and could be printed onto paper for a few cents to make a fully disposable stack of these. After using them for a few years I really do think they are worth the money. The 8 ball skin in my pictures has over 3000 holes in it and is still perfectly usable. Dartskins claim they are good for 10,000 holes which would take me forever to reach. I would buy these again or might buy another set as new games come out.

Durability: 10,000 darts does not sound like a lot to an avid dart throwing who might throw 1000-2000 darts an evening. When you’re doing that type of throwing (like aiming for the triple 20) all evening you wouldn’t have this up. That sort of practice does not require a Dartskin and would be totally wasted using one. Putting up a Dartskin takes about 45 seconds and removing it takes about 3 seconds so it’s easy enough to change the board from normal to a Dartskins game. I tested my 8 ball skin extensively and have thrown around 4000 darts at it. You can see in the pictures it’s pretty holed up, but once it’s held against a dark surface it is still very usable and doesn’t affect game play.

Over all, I would recommend getting these to any casual players who are looking to play fun games and doesn’t take dart too serious. I think the value is fair and the quality is good.

[PC][2008]Fall out in space?

When I was in the military I went to a Canadian base in Dubai. On the base the had a small PC game lounge. I barely got to use it but the two time I did I played World of Goo and another game I cannot find. What I remember is it felt like a Bethesda Fallout game. The sort of game where you get quests but can go where ever you want, try to talk to anyone and pick up any object. It was either in space or just futuristic. This would have been played in 2008-2009.

Poutine 46 - Cathedral Social Hall

A classic poutine

The Fries were skin on and possibly made in house then deep fried. They had a decent crunch for the most part. Got a bit soft near the end but not to the point I would say it was an issue. Over all they were good poutine fries.

The Gravy had lots of taste. What it tasted like to me was packet gravy that someone added their own seasoning to to elevate it. I really enjoyed it.

The Cheese Curds were fine. It seemed like to light of an amount at first but seem to keep on going for %75 of the poutine. It was all fully melted by the heat of the fries and gravy. I like to real feel the cheese in my bites but I couldn’t on this because it was all gooey.

6.6/10

On another note, I was impressed that their SK shaped beer flight holder actually put the slight bend in SK’s east boarder instead of cutting a strait line. Good attention to detail.

Strap for blown out lugs

I tore a spring pin strait through the lugs on my 5610 doing some extreme sports. I tried epoxy but tore it out pretty fast again. Tried to glue my 3 piece OEM strap together and have the screws hold it in place but that also fell apart. Then I found these straps online and figure I gotta test them out for the team.

Absolutely great idea! They have grooves cut into them so your entire lug fits into the groove and “locks” in. I also love how easy it is that change them out so you can get a bunch a suite your style for the day.

Poutine 45 - Big O’s food truck

Slightly different review getting a poutine from a food truck and not a restaurant. As far as I can tell the truck has been in Saskatoon since 2015. It was super busy with a big line today so I doubt it’s going away anytime soon.

This was a tradition poutine with Fries, Gravy and Cheese curds.

The fries were cooked good and crunchy and had a slight deep fryer oil taste. They didn’t have any salt on them

The Gravy was a very very mild tasting gravy. Almost no taste but it did add some moisture to cut the fries with. The gravy also seemed to have next to no salt in it.

The cheese curds were great. A decent amount and they were served chilled using the gravy and fries to add heat to them. Just what I like in my curds.

This one could be a much better poutine if the gravy had a lot more flavour and there was some salt added in general. It had a really good Poutine look and mouth feel it just lacked taste overall.

Their mini donuts are where the magic happens.

Vintage “skate” clothing from clothes cafe. New old stock.

Totally rad skate shop (the coolest skate shop in all of Canada) acquired a bunch of new old stock from Clothes Cafes basement after they closed down. Apparently Clothes Cafe held onto a lot of stock in storage when it either was out of style or new stock came in.

Piles of 90s/2000s shirts, bags, shoes, wallets, watches all new old stock. Go check it out if you have never been.

Also, if you haven’t been to their place go check it out, one of the coolest stores in Saskatoon. Go get a $10 Totally Rad shirt

I have no affiliation with Totally Rad other than being a local skater and supporter of local unique businesses.

[Seiko Arctura Kenetic] Retro futuristic look?

Got this for free. The chrono didn’t reset to zero and the chrono minutes hand was completely missing. After sending it to Seiko for $300CAD I got the movement completely rebuilt, a new capacitor and new hands. The only reason this was worth it for me was because the case and strap were somehow in near mint condition despite the watch being nearly 20 years old.

Something about the outdated, inefficient yet unique Kenetic movement did something for me.

Really Grainy footage X4. Not sure why

Good lighting, Camera was close-ish to the subject, used the "remove grain" feature. Why is so much of my footage looking like it was shot with a Nokia phone?

Shot 4k 60 frames. All other settings set to auto.

Poutine 23.5 - The Thirsty scholar - Smoked Duck

This isn’t going to be a review because it turns out I really don’t like duck meat and it would be an unfair review. I do however want it in the ol’ archives

The poutine consisted of: Waffle fries, Gravy, Curds, Tomato, mushrooms and Smoked Duck.

I’m not a big fan of Waffle fries in general. The cheese was good, basically everything was lost to me because of the duck.

The real issue here is the Smoked duck. I don’t think I’ve ever had smoked duck before and had to try it. For some reason I thought it was just going to be chicken 2.0 but that wasn’t the case. I really did not like the taste. It’s way more gamey, is that the right word for it? The first few bites I thought “ok interesting, not the worst thing” but I got so completely sick of the flavour. That might be the exact flavour that some people love and why so many people eat duck. It was just not for me and that’s why I don’t think a score would be fair.

Have a good weekend folks.

First time wrecking a G-Shock

Bailed hard skateboarding and my watch went flying, ripped through both lugs. I’m going to try and rebuild them with some JB weld and put a resin case back on it to lighten the load. Never actually thought I’d wreck one.

Ancient Aliens version of Saskatoon?

I was trying to find some old history on Saskatoon and came across this video. What the heck is this guy rambling about? Does he think our whole city is some ancient cover up for something. Bazar stuff.

Poutine 44 - Rock N Rods diner - Cheese burger poutine

“I’m tired boss”

I’ve probably eaten too many poutines at this point and become snotty about the whole thing. I’m tired of restaurants throwing randoms shit on fries and calling it a poutine. At least have the 3 core ingredients as a base if you want to have a whole poutine section of your menu. They have a whole section of the menu for poutines and a section of the breakfast menu for poutines with not a single cheese curd in the building. This isn’t a stab at the business as a whole. Place has a fun interior if you’re into car culture and hot rods. The place looks like a fun, casual family diner.

The poutine consisted of: Fries, Gravy, shredded mozza/cheddar cheese, pickles, ground beef, diced tomato, onion.

Fries were pretty good. Nicely salted and cooked properly.

Gravy had that packet gravy taste. That’s not a complaint, I really like packet gravy.

Ground beef was fine, lacked flavour.

Cheese was obviously the wrong cheese.

Pickles and onions are always decent on a poutine IMO.

Diced tomato’s make sense for the poutines theme but don’t work since they get hot and mushy from the poutine.

At least I. This case the menu was honest unlike some other places and did tell you shredded cheese was used.

delicious but not a poutine.
