Am I stupid for going into tech?

I’m a hs senior and I really want to do cs but Reddit is making me think about medicine. Is it genuinely this impossible to break into cs?

Why isnt this regarded as a lifestyle specialty if you work 7on/7off?

If you work 7 days then you have a 7 day break, wouldnt you consider this a great lifestyle? Sure you work many hours when your on, but your home by 7pm. You can take a mini vacation when ever you want. You can go camping for three days then visit your relatives. Literally no other job can do this.

17, no job for a car and no car for a job. I live in the middle of nowhere, literally. How do I start my life?

I can’t walk to work because I live in rural Michigan. My parents make wayyy too much for me to get financial aid. Can’t get a job because I literally live in very rural Michigan, and I can’t drive to a job that’s far because I don’t even have a car. I literally don’t know what to do when I turn 18. Sure i will live with my parents and I will not starve, but I don’t see how I will do anything with my life. Any suggestions?

Med school is worth the debt.

If you become a psychiatrist and make 350k a year, you will keep 230k after taxes in a state with average tax. Even if your debt is 600k, you can spend three years paying that off and reduce it to like 50k. You can then spend the rest of your life making 350k while only having 50k in debt. The realest concern is how late you are to investing.

Legal way for 17 year olds to camp?

Basically the title. We are in America and me and my friends are 17 and want to camp anywhere but most that are controlled require an adult. If your an American, what kind of areas do you suggest we can camp at?

Practicing EM physicians, would you be comfortable working little part time?

Say you wanted to work locum shifts for 6 days straight and wait 30 days before returning to your next 6 day work week, and repeat, how comfortable would you be? How many years of experience would you recommended until someone does this? Do you see any downsides? In my perspective locums can be a great deal because you can work for 6 days at 330 an hour for 12 hours each day and make 24k. What are your thoughts?

CMV: taxes should be to help the needy and build valuable social infrastructure like daycares, not as a way for the upper middle class to fund the middle/lower middle class

Before you start typing the angry comments, read the whole post.

I am more than happy to pay taxes to subsidize childcare for everyone and to build parks and schools. If a family makes too little money then taxes should at least fund their groceries. However, taxing in a way that takes money from the upper middle class and gives it to the middle class is wrong. For example, upper middle class households pay taxes for college students from middle class backgrounds to get financial aid. This would be fine if their own children also got financial aid. But they don’t. This makes it so that underprivileged teens can go to university at a discount while upper middle class teens cannot without parental help.

Am I the only one going into this for part time work?

I can’t see myself working a 9-5 for the next 40 some years. My solution to this was becoming a physician to work part time and still make enough money to raise a family. Ali Chaudhary is a good example of my goal. He works 8 EM shifts then takes 30+ days off to travel or do as he wishes. I would probably want to do something less extreme like 5 days straight then take the month off. Anyone else with the same dream?

17 struggling to transition into adulthood and college

I’m in my senior year of highschool. After I graduate, I hopefully would do premed to become a doctor. I will live with my parents in college but I will not get financial aid because they make 300k+ and they do not plan on helping with costs. I pay for everything I own and consequently don’t own many things. I can’t get a job because for that I need a car and for a car I need a job. Because I’m a minor, mandatory driving ed and testing will be 700$. I’m struggling to see how I can even progress in life with no funds. I can’t even get a job due to the driving situation. I know I’m in the poverty finance subreddit and I don’t live in poverty but I seriously dont know where I can go from this. I will need to pay for tuition + transportation but I have housing and food covered because I live with my parents.

I feel like I’m stuck in this cycle where I can’t make money without transportation but I can’t get transportation without money. I live in deep in a suburb so I can’t walk or bike

How can I afford college?

Umich is an hour and a half away so I would ideally live in dorms. However instate tuition is 18k a year. I could drive but the cost of a car would be just under living in dorms so I should just live in the dorms. Everything would cost 30k a year but my parents are very high income so I would not qualify for fafsa but will still try. The big beautiful bill limited federal loans so I can’t get loans except from private banks at a very high interest rate since I have no co-signer. I have a year because I took college classes in high school so I can only go to community college for one year. How could I realistically attend university? I don’t have ANY financial support from my parents btw.

Thoughts future pay outlook? Advice needed

If you’re in emergency medicine and have been an attending for a few years, do you see salaries stagnant or is all the doom and gloom an overreaction?
For context I am a young guy in premed and I have shadowed in the er and I find it very cool but I am worried that pay would eventually be like family medicine by the time I’m 40 due to inflation rising faster than salaries. I’m in the US by the way. Any advice is greatly appreciated.

All these applications and one call back 😭what is wrong with my application?

I am ONLY applying to fast food jobs by the way. I am 17 but they don’t know that. My resume has my work experience, my skills, and the fact that I am available 24/7 (my classes are self paced). What could be the problem?

Cant afford to go to college.

My parents make an enormous amount of money so I cant get financial aid and can get a minimal amount of federal loans. I have a year of credits so I will go to a cc for one year and then to a 4 year uni for 2. Here is the breakdown:
year 1:
Transportation (car+gas+insurance): 7k
Community college tuition: 2.5k
Miscellaneous: 2k

year 2 and 3 (per year):
Tuition: 17k
Transpiration: 7k
Miscellaneous: 2k

This comes out to 63.5k for 3 years of college. How on earth will I pay that? Is my only option to take out massive private loans?

Edit:
please dont suggest I join the military

Edit 2:
I’ll just be donating plasma!

How do you have transportation?

What are you using for transportation? It feels like I can never hang out with anybody because of how expensive cars and insurance are. Lowk sucks
