So, this is really it, isn't it?

Jumped on again last night just to see what has happened. Was hoping the Portal and Server Browser experience had been improved. But...as far as I can tell, it's basically the same as it was a few months ago?

They are really just gonna abandon and ignore this mode and focus on cheesy crossovers from movies that lost their relevance a few years ago, aren't they?

Wtf man.

Yankee Doodle Lake + Rollins Pass MTB loop a few weekends back.

Impromptu escape. Stock F-150 handled it just fine with some patience and prior knowledge of the road.

Looking for a decent MTB conversion kit for a smaller full suspension frame

Hey all.

I have a 2017 Knolly Endorphin frame and a Fox 34 fork that I'd like to turn into an EMTB/lightweight E Moto setup. This would be for moto trails and covering more ground on nasty forest service roads for hunting in Colorado.

I own a dual sport motorcycle and am an experienced mountain biker, and want to add something in-between the two in the quiver.

The Bimotal setup looks pretty ideal, but it's also quite expensive. I can source or already have the rest of the components I need for the bike build itself.

I'm fine with a wheel-motor drive situation, but am curious about other options. The big limiting factor for wheel drive is that the hub spacing is an older standard at 142x12, and I don't see many options there. Another limiting factor is that the frame itself doesn't have a whole lot of room for a battery (size small), and the shape of the front triangle is pretty swoopy. I'd consider a rack mount setup, and have an Old Man Mountain rack that could theoretically work with a full suspension setup.

I'd like to keep the build under 1500 if possible.

I have access to a 3D printer at work, and could make a custom battery mount/case if needed.

My other concern is that it seems like a lot of conversion kits aren't really stout enough for the type of terrain and riding I do and would want to do with this rig. Think very rocky and steep terrain. Not huge jumps or anything, but definitely on the "black diamond" end of technical trails.

I also see so many ads for Temu setups that seem both sketchy AF and also enticing from a price perspective haha.

Really I'm just curious what recommendations y'all might have.

Essential upgrades? [2019 EcoBoost 2.7 XLT FX4 Super Crew 5.5' Bed]

After lots of truck shopping and research, I went back to Ol' Reliable, the F-150. Went with a post 2018 2.7 specifically on the recommendation of my buddy who runs a high volume and highly regarded shop in Missoula, Montana. From his perspective, the 2.7 EcoBoost is the best engine for most truck owners on the road today, and I have to say, I believe him. Getting 20-25mpg in a full sized truck is pretty awesome, and the price was fantastic, especially when compared to Tacomas and Tundras of similar years and mileages. But, I don't have to preach to the choir here.

Anyway, I ended up under budget and want to use the rest of what I'd set aside for the truck on some sensible upgrades, and some fun ones.

**Use case**: semi daily driver, definitely daily in the winter when riding my motorcycle sucks.

Additionally, this will be the main road trip and adventure rig for my wife and I, and likely will be the "family car" when the time comes. This includes lots of highway miles across the West, with a healthy dose of 4x4 roads to access hikes/climbs, mountain biking, rafting, rad campsites, and hunting. Besides the nastiest 4x4 roads that are sought out by Jeepers specifically, I'd like this truck to be able to go most places in Colorado, Montana, Wyoming, Utah, California, etc. No, I don't need it to be a rock crawler. That's what the dirt bikes are for 😉

We'll likely get a camper trailer or smaller cab-over eventually, but for now the ARE topper and the platform I built work great (we're both short). We are also waiting on a motorcycle trailer, and may get a larger raft eventually.

**What I'm thinking so far**:

  1. An additional wheelset with solid all terrain tires that handle snow well. I'd rather have a full wheelset that I can just toss on in September for hunting season and more local trips, as well as winter driving in CO. I'm looking on Marketplace and Craigslist for both 18" wheels and 17" wheels with larger tires. Not opposed to buying new if the price/quality ratio is right.

Would prefer to not need to do a lift and leveling job if I don't need to, but I'm open to hearing about suspension upgrades that won't over complicate things or reduce overall durability.

  1. A bull bar/aftermarket bumper. I'd really prefer not to destroy my grille and radiator, and there's plenty of deer out here.

  2. Possibly a rear bumper upgrade with some decent steps. Like I said. I'm short.

  3. Any recommendations that make sense to upgrade from stock to increase longevity and durability. This could be engine related or related to protecting the undercarriage.

  4. Some decent ditch lights to see closer obstacles when parking or driving bad dirt roads at night.

  5. A decent roof rack/cargo basket for the cab. The topper has rails for crossbars, and I plan on using those as well. Just gotta source the towers and crossbars- any tips there would be great. ARE Truck Hero.

  6. Cosmetic stuff like a non-chrome grille and fender flares/guards. Just for fun. Not as important, but still happy to hear any recommendations.

Thanks for any and all advice. Sorry for the wall of text. Happy to answer questions as needed.

Custom or "blank" tent poles?

Hey all-

So, a few years back, I impulse bought an Alpkit Aeronaut 1. ( https://eu.alpkit.com/products/aeronaut-1?variant=43513803407491 )

It's a fun little tent, but honestly, the inflatable "pole" is kind of a nuisance. It's hard to get it to the appropriate pressure without a bike pump. Which is fine if I'm bikepacking, but I'm not always using it for that.

It also has some general rigidity and structural issues that would likely be alleviated by using a standard tent pole. It'd also probably be lighter and pack down smaller. I don't mind strapping a single folding pole to my pack.

So. I'm searching for a place that I could just buy a single tent pole that is the correct length and flexibility for this tent.

Any suggestions?

Snowy Range: busy this upcoming weekend?

Hey all!

My wife and I visited the Snowy Range early in June on a road trip. We're down in Colorado, and it was an awesome stop. Reminded me of a lot of the mountains I grew up around in Montana. Cool, isolated ranges.

I've been wanting to mountain bike up there for awhile. We were thinking of heading up this coming weekend to get away from the insanity of the 4th in our small town.

I suppose I'm just curious if y'all have any idea if that range gets slammed in the summer or not. It'd be a bummer to not be able to find any parking, and even more of a bummer to ride in with camping gear and not find any backcountry campsites.

Any beta would be appreciated. Thank you!

Looking for a simple, swappable conversion kit. Any recommendations?

Howdy!

As the title suggests, I'm looking for a conversion kit that is realatively easy to swap between bikes. Range is not the most important factor here. I'd be using this on a few different bikes, for different reasons. One would be on my long travel full suspension, for getting more laps in at a local trail system that is all old moto trails and has a long, kind of brutal climb. I'd also use it on my commuter rig which is basically a bikepacking rig.

Both bicycles are 27.5 rear with 142x12 rear axles. I could tweak both to use the same cassette if needed.

Bonus points if I could throw this device on our old ass tandem road bike with rim brakes, but that sounds pretty sketchy tbh.

Any thoughts here?

What am I looking at? Iron intrusion?

Found in central Colorado, east of Cañon City near the Arkansas River (Texas Creek OHV area). It is QUITE hard, nearly metallic. Sharp. Ferrous. Severe cleavage angles on the bottom. So, I come to you all humbly: what is this?

Started First Light last night - loving it!

A Bond origin story? Hell yes. I love how it toes the line between being as serious and gritty as the Craig era films, while also having some of the levity of the Brosnan era. I love that young Bond is kind of an arrogant little shit. I'm mildly annoyed that the first like hour and a half of gameplay is all the intro, training, and tutorial...but I also kind of like it. The game isn't in a hurry. It shows you the core mechanics without spilling everything. Good foreplay.

I paused last night at the beginning of the night club level when you're there with all of the new 00 agents, so please, no spoilers.

But. Overall? Seems like good fun.

Just got a Pixel 10 Pro: what should I do to ensure I get the most out of this hardware?

Hey all!

Title says most of it. But, I figure telling you a bit more about my lifestyle and use cases might help. Really, I just want to make sure I'm using this pretty incredible piece of tech to the fullest.

Use cases/lifestyle considerations:

  1. I do a lot of outdoor sports. Mountain biking, skiing, hiking, packrafting, recreational shooting, hunting, dual sport/adv motorcycle stuff, etc. I see that it's already water and dust resistant, and I got a screen protector and heavy duty 2 layer case. I also use an additional waterproof Pelican bag for water sports. But, if any of you have encountered issues with durability that I should consider, please share! Also, any additional tips or tricks for anything relevant to this are appreciated.

  2. I'm a semi professional photographer and love photography in general. I already love the built in features for the camera, and I was blown away by the low light performance with a tripod. Excited to try the other features and see the stabilized video! What else should I look into to get the most out of the camera? 3rd party apps? Hidden features? Tricks?

  3. I'm a teacher at an alternative school that does a lot of fieldwork and hands on stuff. Unfortunately, the school doesn't provide phones, but it's an expectation that we photograph cool stuff with our students. I really don't want all of my storage going to photos of other people's kids. Is there a good way to automate storage partitioning for specific subjects?

Thanks!

Joe Kassabian? Other authors or series to fill the void left by The Expanse?

Hey all,

I finished all of The Expanse, and I'm having withdrawals. I started *The Mercy of Gods*, but it's not quite scratching the same itch. Maybe I need to give it more time.

Regardless, I also just finished the audiobook of *Hooligans of Kandahar*, and while the narration was pretty annoying, Joe Kassabian is a solid writer. I also love his podcast, Lions Led by Donkeys. I really appreciate his leftist veteran perspective, along with his no-bullshit attitude and humor.

I see he's written a few sci fi series, and really, I'm curious about y'all's impressions. I doubt anything can fill the Amos shaped hole in my heart, but I'm willing to try!

Also open to other recommendations. Audiobooks preferred. I read a lot for work, so having an audio escape is really nice, and it helps me focus while doing menial tasks. I've basically gaslit myself into enjoying doing dishes and laundry by associating boring chores with the dulcet tones of Jefferson Mays at this point.

Thanks for any conversation that arises!

To whoever was working on seamless takeoff transitions... I may have useful info?

  1. You rock, o modders.

  2. Recently, I've had a weird bug that gives me a seamless 1st person takeoff, seemingly at random. I imagine that I'm doing some series of actions to trigger it, but I'm not totally sure. I'll do my best to describe it, and I'll try and do a posthumous recording next time it happens, to at least grab the 30 seconds leading up to the bug.

I'm using Fleet Management to simulate having the Frontier be a ship that is rated for atmosphere, but it's carried from system to system by a large C class ship. I know. I'm a nerd.

So. I'll get to a system in my big carrier, and dock with the Frontier. Then, I'll take my Frontier (which i rebuilt using a Va'arun Hymn and the name change bug has the name stuck) down to the surface. Sometimes, when I undock from the carrier, the "undock" dialouge options don't go away. I have to get up and sit back down to make them go away. But, they also aren't responsive. I can land the ship, pilot it, etc etc.

But, sometimes when I land, I'll go to "get up" and the game auto starts the takeoff sequence. However, my character still gets up. Now I'm in my ship, in 1st person, able to walk around *as the ship takes off*. I can see out the windows as the surface falls away and the cockpit points skyward.

I have no idea how to reliably replicate this, but I can try.

I'm also not sure if this is in any way useful. But. Figured every little data point could help. If this is useless, I'll happily take the post down.

Anyway. Cheers!

Fleet Commander: Swap Home Ship on Travel Not Appearing

Essentially the title. I built a carrier for the Frontier. I can't seem to swap Home Ships on arrival though, as the mod implies is possible. Any tips here?

Hey all! New/soon to be new packrafter, but I'm not a total noob to watersports and whitewater. I used to guide up in Montana, and generally am a fairly competent outdoorsman. Having said that, I still value the experience and opinions of others, so I have a question!

My wife and I are about to buy some packrafts(!!) for an upcoming San Juan trip (Sand Island - Clay Hills), and general shenanagins (bike-rafting, moto rafting, fishing, hiking into alpine lakes to chill, etc etc.)

I get a small discount on Kokopelli through my work, so we're definately going that route. However, I'm really trying to see what the practical differences are between the Rogue R-Deck and the Nirvana Spraydeck.

As far as I can tell:

The Nirvana has an 840d Kevlar floor, vs the Rogue's 210d floor, and is rated for Class III.

The Rogue is rated for Class II, and is also a few pounds lighter, and packs down smaller.

The dimensions are identical.

Is the floor material really the big difference here? If so, is it worth it? Realistically, most of what we'd raft would be Class I-II, but I don't want the Rogue to be severely undergunned on Class III or bony/techy Class II if that strikes our fancy. However, the weight and space savings is pretty significant (3lbs).

I do like the easy removability of the spray deck of the Rogue, as we realistically wouldn't always need or use them. I can also see from the Kokopelli site (but not from the pro-deal site) that the spraydeck for the Nirvana is sold seperately, which is mildly annoying. It appears to be included in the Rogue, which is also the more affordable model (although not by all that much).

Really, before I pull the trigger, I wanted to hear y'alls thoughts.

Thanks!
