Cars destroy community

Nothing new to r/fuckcars folks, but I thought this was a nice take on why NYC has a stronger sense of community:

>I do think there is something to a city where cars aren’t the primary means of transportation. People in car cities seem to me like they’re detached from each other. Everyone in NYC has tons of practice being around other people all the time for better or worse. The better part is that it can be a humanizing factor and foster more comfort around strangers.

And makes me sad we won't have something like this outside major cities because cars caused and perpetuate sprawl and a slew of other issues

Obligatory don't brigade the post, just appreciate the anti-car sentiment 😄

Humong Us: UK-based discord for modded games and other fun!

If you're interested in playing modded join us in the discord Humong Us!

We play most days at 7pm UK time. We play Town of Us and Town of Us - Mira, and sprinkle in games like proxy or other mods/games. We also have regular BOTC games. Everyone is welcome, and we'll help you learn the mod!

  • Ages: we're mostly 20s and 30s, but have some younger and some older
  • TOU is PC-only, but you're welcome to join if you're non-pc (Mira supposedly works on mobile)
  • Normally active in UK evenings
  • Other games (in this server or partnered servers): BOTC, town of salem, SNS, proxy, codenames, minecraft, etcetc

If you haven't played mods before, I HIGHLY encourage giving it a try! It has a bit of a learning curve, but the roles add a lot of excitement and fun to the game!

What non-workout fit/wellness/mindful activities do fit bitches do in NYC? (massages, spa, assessments, etc)

I want to learn what I'm missing in the city to enrich my life especially on a physical/mental level. Right now I regularly do:

  • at the gym: many mindful workout classes (like pilates, yoga, aerial yoga, breathwork, stretch), massage chairs, water jet beds, red light therapy
  • at home: foam rolling, lacrosse ball rolling, sometimes stretch, loosely monitor with the questionably-accurate body comp scales
    • Also tend to take baths most days, which I did to help recover muscles, but I learned recently long baths (eg 1hr+) can actually be bad and stress the body, so starting today I'm trying to make them shorter or just shower

So what ideas do you have to make the most of city life for my wellbeing?

Massages immediately come to mind, but I kinda struggle with their value - it seems very expensive for something a massage chair can kinda do? (to be clear, please give all recs even expensive - I have budget but I like value)

Approaching ChubbyFIRE status and actual RE makes me feel 'OK' about paying a fuckton in rent while finishing working

I used to feel kinda sad when I didn't go to work because I'm paying almost $7k in rent to be close *to* work for a better commute. So any day I lived here without working in the office used to feel like a waste of money. But since finding this subreddit and realizing it's actually ok to spend the money I have, I don't feel this anxiety anymore. We've far exceeded our FIRE number and arguably are at ChubbyFIRE, but I don't think we will live a 'Chubby' life (tbh I don't even know how to spend money, honestly don't, please give advice)

Though I still think about what to do with the lease when I leave my job (0-2 years). I plan to leave after bonus payout (eg Feb) but my lease is annually in October. I might try to negotiate a 0.5 or 1.5y lease, or just use this hard-earned money to chill and try to enjoy the city I've lived in before leaving it. It would suck to pay so much per month without actually working here at all for 6 months

I started a discord a couple months ago to discuss pilates - whether checking in how your workouts are going, questions that you don't want to make a r/pilates post for, or anything else. The intention is definitely not to replace this group, just offer a real-time space to chat pilates where you don't need a proper post for :D

We're a small group with some instructors, some training to teach, and of course everyone interested in pilates!
