Onn 4k PRO - plex transcoding truehd files

I've read the Onn 4k Pro cannot play truehd natively and has to transcode. I'm wondering if there's any kind of workaround so it doesn't transcode. Everything else I have direct plays fine. I have a few dozen movies with truehd and would prefer not to have to redownload them. Suggestions?

Unnecessary Er visits due to ai advice

Seen quite a few patients recently presenting to the er because ai advised. Some cases where it’s good they did but some that are too cautious. Basic example, one of the physicians noted there was 11 cat bites in one week. Of those, exactly two needed treatment. There was one where the skin wasn’t broken but gpt told them to go even though the patient was uninsured. They asked about going to a Pcp but the advice was er or urgent care only. I’m a psychologist so I’ve seen more panic attacks as anything left sided chest related prompts instructions to seek care. Curious if others have had similar experience.

Soundproofing with new baby

I work from home. New baby in the house and crying is getting in the way of work. Office is adjacent to living room and nursery. I picked up an under the door seal and added white noise but it's not enough. I want to avoid tearing down drywall as things are very busy right now, planning to move in the next few years, and the baby's sleep schedule. I am planning to add door weatherstripping on top and sides to fully seal the door and acoustic caulk all gaps, baseboards, outlets.

I am looking for additional suggestions. A few things I'm considering: Replacing the hollow core door with a solid core door. Buying solid wood bookshelves and possibly adding mass loaded vinyl to the back. Blown in cellulose (which would only require drilling a small hole). I don't have an exact timeframe on when we are moving (work dependent) but it could be as soon as Q1 2027 so I am trying to be frugal here.

Which grading service in July 2026 for vintage?

I have about 20 vintage cards I want to grade with the goal of selling most, maybe keeping one or two for my collection. PSA is $80 per card plus upcharge while CGC and Beckett are much cheaper. I have a few expensive cards (e.g., 1999 Charizard, 1st edition Fossil Gengar, Japanese Sabrina's Gengar) and about 20 less valuable ones (ungraded between $40-100). I am thinking to send the expensive ones to PSA to maximize value and the rest to CGC. However, I have read mixed reports that PSA grades harsher on vintage. I am a novice at grading cards so suggestions are welcome. Pictures of the more expensive cards for reference. https://imgur.com/a/rmzZ2xH

Adding a Smith to a PR5000 - keep 6-post or convert to 4-post?

Have a 6-post REP PR 5000 with 16inch and 30 inch crossmembers. Been lifting in the cage for about a year consistently and looking to upgrade my setup with the Athena and a Smith. The problem is the Smith complicates lifting inside the rack due to the space it takes up. I use the cage for bench, squat, and OHP. Options are:

a) Keep my current setup and buy shorter spotter arms from another company so i can continue to lift inside the rack with the Smith. Consensus online is it will feel cramped which will be an issue for certain lifts.

b) Convert to a 4-post with a rear base stabilizer and front feet, buy spotter arms, and lift outside the rack.

c) Buy 26in crossmembers to replace the 16in and run new cable (mounting the smith next to the Athena which keeps the 30in space in tact). This adds 10 inches in depth when my space is already tight (15x10ft). No plans for new equipment but this will make it feel cramped.

I'm not sure what to do. I'm hesitant to add depth so leaning toward the first two options. Suggestions?

[Switch 2] - Is there a way to verify if a game code has been redeemed?

I bought an open box switch 2 on ebay. There is a mario kart code included. I booted the switch up, logged in, and there is an option to redeem the included game code. If I click redeem I think it will activate it to my account. I want to verify that the code has not been used as this will be given as a gift. Anyway to do this? Or does the prompt to redeem included game code disappear if it's been redeemed?

Recommend a landmine attachment

3x3 1 inch. Looking for: coated so the sleeves and caps won’t get scratched. Nice to haves: some way to tuck it out of the way such as a magnet.

Kidproofing the gym

Looking for advice on keeping things safe for my toddlers. They aren't allowed in the garage by themselves but sometimes we will be outside or walking through the garage and they will run over to my gym area. They have been told not to touch things but kids are kids. I currently have a 6 post rack, weights, barbells, and adjustable dumbbells.

Weights are stored on weight horns which feels safe.

I keep the bench flat when not in use to avoid pinch injuries.

Dumbbells are adjustable and sit on a dumbbell stand, feels a little tippy but I think it's OK (powerblock stand).

Debating between hanging barbell holders or vertical barbell holders or wall gun rack style, not sure which is safer. Worried they could dislodge them if they pulled down.

Planning to get an ares so will have more pinch spots as well. Tips?

Neutral Grip Overhead Press Options

Had shoulder pain from barbell Overhead Press, doctor diagnosed impingement. PT recommended neutral grip OHP and specifically viking press now that I'm cleared for overhead lifts. Options are:

  1. Landmine Viking Press Attachment

  2. Open Trap bar (likely with wider handles)

  3. Specialty barbell (e.g., Multigrip barbell, Black Widow VTS)

Other option is to just stick with dumbbell press. I am planning to buy an open trap bar anyway so that is appealing but seems like it might not be ideal for viking press and my shoulder health is my priority. I'm sure I would use the multigrip barbell but right now don't have another specific use case. Suggestions?

Itching

Diagnosed with chronic pancreatitis for five years. Started on pert 4 years ago. About a month after starting Creon I developed this full body itching. Tests were negative. Swapped from Creon to zenpep and back without change. Had repeat lab testing since, all normal. Imaging is stable. I’m itchy all the time with flare ups occurring a few times a year. Skin is normal, no hives or anything. GI, allergy, PCP, derm all uncertain. I’ve had a few providers talk about possibilities like bile duct issues, pert allergy, or something unrelated. No one seems to know. In the meantime I take a lot of antihistamines. Anyone deal with this or have suggestions for what next?

Fringe Midas Open Trap bar - bolt on version

Was debating between the fringe midas open trap bar and the bells of steel open trap bar. Looking at the midas bar today due to a sale and it looks like they replaced welds with bolts. Has anyone used this design? Seems like a worse version for the same price so now I'm leaning Bells of Steel.

Best security monitoring to complement existing Eufy setup?

I have a Eufy camera setup I'm happy with. Doorbell, few outdoor and indoor cameras. Using them for over two years without issue. I want to add door/window alarms, possibly water leak, and the ability to add active monitoring if I choose. It looks like most of the major security companies are designed to use with their camera systems (e.g., ring), or they offer features that I won't use since I just need alarms. I'm hesitant to switch to another company as Eufy has worked well. I did look at their alarm offerings but reviews online are limited and mixed. Suggestions?

Depositing to estate account after probate closes and PR appointment ends

State - South Carolina. Relative passed. I was sole heir and personal representative of their estate. Opened probate and an estate bank account. Probate closed a few years ago. I was told there might be some additional funds at a later date and advised to keep the estate bank account open. I recently received a small check (<$100) addressed to the estate and will likely received another few small ones (<$50 over the next few years). Since probate is closed, I am no longer PR. Can I deposit the check to the estate bank account or do I need to reopen probate? Cost to reopen is $80 and extension is $25 per 180 days so it's barely worth it.

ISO controller with long range

Hello, I currently stream games from my Windows PC to my TV in another room. It is approximately 23ft away, separated by two walls. I currently use an Xbox one controller which occasionally drops due to the range.

  1. Your budget and currency (do not say "doesn't matter" or "unlimited", include a sensible range or maximum) - $300

2)Your country (not just region) and where you can buy from (product availability and pricing vary around the world) - United States

  1. Console or platform compatibility needed
  • PC streaming to Android TV via moonlight
  1. Desired features - The main feature I am looking for is stability from about 25feet through two walls. I am open to bluetooth or wifi, as well as third party accessories that could improve my situation.

  2. Types of games you'll be playing with a controller - I play single player rpgs and souls likes.

  3. Other controllers you're comparing to (demonstrate that you have used the buying advice pages, and searched existing posts) - I looked at the new steam controller which advertises good range, however, reviews online are mixed. Turtle beach advertises a long range but I did not see anything confirming it's actually better than an xbox or playstation controller.

Furniture repair recommendations

Need two things repaired/restored.

  1. Ashley Furniture reclining sofa - back rest wood is split clean through.

  2. Homemade kids toy chest. Has scratches, sagging wood. Looking for someone to restore this and add some safety catches. Has sentimental value so looking for someone who has experience with this type of thing.

Are doctorates harder or easier than they used to be?

When I was in grad school about five years ago things were very different. Lit searches were done manually on pubmed or google scholar. I taught myself stats on YouTube. Took paper exams where I had to write out formulas. Twenty years ago all exams were paper and lit searches were done at the library. Today, ai can synthesize research much quicker. Students use it to check stats (or to run them). Our expectations are more complex but I’m not sure it’s harder. I have a few older colleagues who lament things getting easier but I wonder if it’s just a different set of challenges. Thoughts?
