Can this be fixed?

Heated towel rail in bathroom seems to be leaking and is making a mess. Just wondering if there's any chance of repairing this or if I'm realistically looking at having to replace it? Looks like corrosion maybe? No idea how old it is, but it's at least 12 years.

Manhunter (1986)

Saw this in the cinema for its 40th anniversary re-release. Made five years before Silence of the Lambs, this is Hannibal Lecter's first movie appearance,. It's directed by Michael Mann, and based on Thomas Harris' earlier novel Red Dragon. Other than sharing the same character (although he's only in this movie for two brief scenes), and the plot unfolding along more or less similar lines (I haven't read the books, but wonder if they share such a similar formula too), there's not much to connect the movies though.

Silence of the Lambs has Jodie Foster as the law enforcer, Anthony Hopkins as Hannibal Lecter, and Ted Levine as the psycho to be caught, and this has William Petersen, Brian Cox, and the towering Tom Noonan in equivalent roles. It has that signature Michael Mann vibe (although a bit rough around the edges, compared to his later masterpiece Heat), and just generally feels a lot more ... 80's. That's not necessarily a good thing, since some of those 80's vibes definitely haven't aged well and come across as somewhat cheesy nowadays (synth music, anyone?). It also has the most outrageous extended product placement scene I've ever seen, when in a supermarket, after having taken their sweet time walking past a myriad of in-focus products, the main character's kid has a a line that literally advertises a brand of coffee! This scene took me right out of the movie, which was a shame since there's an important piece of story being told during it.

But you soon forget about these things as the movie's plot proceeds at breakneck speed towards its explosive finale. While it's not as good as Silence of the Lambs (sorry, Michael), don't let that put you off watching Manhunter if you get a chance. It's a very competent and tense thriller. It's also a psychologically unsettling movie and doesn't pull any punches about the gruesomeness of its subject matter. You may want to sleep with the lights on for a few days afterwards.

Game feels done after Ficsonium power

There it is. 20 Ficsonium fuel rods / minute. I've been putting off finishing those last 3 elevator requirements since I didn't want the game to end, but kind of run out of excuses now. At this point I can basically do them just by wiring up a few drone ports to a manufacturer, which feels a bit ... anti-climatic.

I guess all good things must end. Man, I wish this game had post game content. The way you abruptly run out of thing to do after finishing the phase 5 requirements is like someone pulling the emergency brake. Feels kind of sad, but it's taken nearly 300 hours to get to this point, so I can't really complain.

Satisfactory killed my CPU cooler!

Well, probably not literally, but the cooler I had couldn't cope with the game, LOL.

I noticed the CPU kept overheating when playing the game, actually making the PC shut down occasionally. Eventually gave in and replaced the olld heatsink with a nice new modern tower cooler, and now everything's keeping at a reasonable(ish) temperature.

It's an insanely CPU heavy game!

E14 - Unable to lift the roller mop

I'm out of ideas. The robot moves a little bit forward, and then stops dead in its tracks and complains that it can't lift the roller mop, or the roller mop is obstructed. I've removed the roller mop, cleaned all round its housing and the piston thing that it fits onto, and repeated this multiple times. It's not resolving it.

The robot is less than a year old, so I guess it's still in warranty, but is there any chance I can solve this by myself?

Building orientation (minor annoyance)

Does anybody know if there's any way to stop the game randomly changing the orientation of a building (or blueprint) when building a line of them? I usually only notice after I've placed a few more of them (especially blueprints, because they're often too big to easily notice the problem), and it's annoying to have to do them all again.

Virgin Media ignoring opt-out requests

I keep getting marketing messages to my iPhone from Virgin Media (who I have a broadband account with). They say to text NO to 62147, which I do. I then get an acknowledgement message that I am opted out.

Then a few weeks later the cycle stops again. It's annoying, and I'm pretty sure actually illegal. Any ideas?

All this makes only 12 electromagnetic field generators a minute

I mean, literally 12, that's it. And it's not even showing all the oil processing, miners and belt spaghetti. And it actually even extends a bit beyond the manufacturers in the far distance!

I don't remember setting up plutonium reactors being this much work, LOL.

Can somehow help me make this rail junction work?

Somehow I avoided making any parallel rail junctions until now. I had it in my mind this would work just like in Factorio (path signals in, block signals out), but (a) I can't get the parallel tracks to join properly, and (b) the signals are saying no.

Can anybody help me understand what the Satisfactory way is here?

Update: Using foundation is the answer.

PSA: play the game however you want!

The amount of posts here seeking approval for their preferred playstyle is disheartening.

It’s a sandbox. Build your factories however gives you the most enjoyment. You don’t need validation by the “community”, and they don’t need to be “perfect”.

Chrome on Macbook Pro using wrong audio device

My system settings are set to use a USB sound card by default, which is connected to my speakers.

For some reason Chrome insists on ignoring this and using the laptop's internal speakers, and there doesn't seem to be any way of changing audio output device in Chrome.

Can anybody help? I've found similar issues by searching the issue on Google, but none seem to suggest any solutions.

Who's your favourite Skeletor?

I was surprised by how much I enjoyed the new movie, but kept on thinking how good Frank Langella was as Skeletor in the '87 version. The new one is a bit goofy, which matches up with how I remember him from the old cartoon, and is a lot of fun for sure, but the more serious interpretation of the character had a lot going for it.

Just wondering which incarnation is people's favourite?

How do I remove this shower drain?

Reposting since I forgot to attach the image earlier.

The thing isn't shifting. I have a horrible feeling someone might have used some sort of adhesive to fix it.

Does anybody know how to remove this type of drain? It at the very least needs cleaning, and probably replacing

Is it only me, or is the in-car navigation really bad?

It seems to refuse to pick optimal routes to places.

It's notably worse at finding the fastest path between A and B than my previous car, a 2014 Q3, which is quite the achievement given that it's 12 years newer and by the same company.

It's like they're actually trying to encourage people to use Carplay.

What's the point of the "shop"?

My infotainment just received an update to the shop app today. Checked it and ... it's completely empty.

What's this meant to be for?

Getting outside of house redone - what should I do with this?

Mostly just getting the whole thing painted white. I'm wondering though if I should be doing anything special with the indented arc thing above the window (don't know what it's called)?

Is there a way for users to opt out of experiments?

Is there a support process (or otherwise), whereby a user can opt out of experiments, such as the recent one to show algorithm driven recommendations in the home feed by default?

I tried watching the Pink Panther (1963) and gave up after 45 minutes

So after seeing a post here about some of the sequels, I thought I'd sit down and watch the original, which I hadn't seen since a child so couldn't remember anything about it. My thinking was it's a classic, so it must be good, right? And The Great Race (1965) by the same director is one of my all time favourite movies.

But for a movie held in such high esteem, I was pretty shocked at just how booorriiiiing this was. I found it unwatchable and had to stop it after 45 minutes, where David Niven is trying to seduce the so called "Indian" (🤨🤨) princess. It just dragged so bad with nothing of note happening. Not only that, but for a supposed comedy, I didn't find it at all funny either. I guess I was meant to laugh at Peter Sellers breaking a violin?

I'm genuinely baffled that this ever turned into a franchise. What am I missing?

Gesturing with his nose

Does anybody else’s do this? He will gesture with his nose to indicate things he wants me to pay attention to, or do. Like a mixture between pointing and mining.

It sometimes takes me a while to figure out what he’s going on about and he must think I’m an idiot, LOL.

That’s proper communication. I can’t get over how smart he is to have figured that out. I’ve never known a dog to do this.
