Gift for my sister’s 40th bday

I’m looking for a gift for my sister for her big 4-0. We’re 6 years apart (I’m younger), and pretty close. She’s hard to buy for. She does very well as a concert promoter and has no kids so she doesn’t want for anything. She likes music, travel, exercise/hiking, and is pretty health conscious. I thought about it maybe something sentimental. Pictures of us over years in some sort of display.

I’ve been working on jam style improv lately

I pulled up a jam track on YouTube and gave it a shot. Feedback welcome! I think the jam track was trying to replicate the Phish sound.

Grains of Wrath x Holy Mountain Brewing - Blessings of the Highest Order

This is a great beer. Balances sweet and dank. And I love the metal packaging art. Never heard of Grains of Wrath but I hope to get back to Holy Mountain again one day.

Been playing guitar for 20 years and finally got my first

I’ve been playing guitar for a long time and decided to pick up a cheap bass to add bass lines to my bedroom metal project. Picked up this Jackson Sprectra on FB marketplace for $150. I will definitely need to work on my technique but at least have the musical knowledge already.

Favorite SCI sets?

I’ve never really been into SCI. I saw them once back around 2017 and was actually really into the show, but haven’t been able to recapture that just listening to the music. Some of the music is more twangy and some of it is more funky and I’m way more into the funky stuff.

There needs to be a filter for jobs that are just training AI

I’m a credit analyst for a bank and I’m just not getting paid enough, so I’m on the job hunt. It’s shocking how many “jobs” are just contract work to train an AI program to do what you do. They’re being pushed by the job sites so hard and it’s just like spam everywhere.

TIFU by looking at an attractive woman on Instagram

My fiancée (been together 3 years and have been engaged for 2 months) and I went to the pool earlier. When we got back I was sitting on the toilet mindless scrolling IG and my algorithm fed me an attractive woman working out in the gym and I clicked on her profile. Not even thinking about it, I put my phone down on the sink and got in the shower. My fiancée walked in a saw it and she was really hurt that I was looking at other women on the internet. It’s not something I do very much, but I feel terrible about it, and it was bad optics to say the least.

I made a sincere apology and she forgave me, but I still feel bad. I’m just going to have to sit with my guilt and let her feel her feelings for a bit. I’m not really sure what else to do.

TL;DR: my fiance caught me looking at an attractive woman on Instagram.

UPDATE: It’s the next day. I still feel guilty but she seems to be more or less back to normal.

Men, how did you cope with the stress of wedding planning?

Been engaged 2 months. Been with my fiancée for 3 years. Wedding is schedule for June 2027z

I expected stress. No one has ever told me the wedding planning process is anything but stressful. I expect conflict to arise. This is a public, emotionally charged event with a lot of moving parts and our families are very different.

I’m really not picky, and as such she’s really taken the lead in planning, as the more particular of the two of us. We’re lucky in that we’re getting a lot of money from our parents, but it’s still rather expensive the we’re both having anxiety about the whole thing.

She seems to get into modes where she’s ultra motivated to research and plan and gets tunnel vision about anything else in life. I do my best to communicate and offer my opinions but sometimes it just feels like too much for the moment.

What if my mom gets randomly teleported to a random Arctic island?

As my mom ages, I worry about her more and more. She’s an exceedingly kind woman but very sheltered. She’s like a hobbit. She likes sitting in her cozy apartment with her books and is very sedentary (although has recently taken it upon herself to do some strength training). Now at 70, is showing signs of physical deterioration.

I keep having this recurring intrusive thought about her getting teleported to a desolate northern Canadian arctic island with no help and it breaks my heart.

I think this represents broader anxieties about her wellbeing and health as she ages.

How do you avoid having an existential crisis every Monday?

I work in finance for bank. My job is boring but stable. The pay is mediocre, my coworkers are alright, but I get a lot of PTO.

I feel like I get an existential crisis every Monday. How do I avoid this?
