Is a full face helmet overkill for a daily commute?

My commute begins next week and it’s about 4 1/2 miles in Brooklyn - pretty flat but lots of moving and stationary obstacles. I currently have a normal skateboard helmet and wrist guards. Not going incredibly fast, but still… It’s my face…

Think a full face is overkill? Is it mainly reserved for downhill?

Commuting gear recommendations?

Just got a Pantheon Ember and I’m stoked to begin commuting with it. 4 miles each way approx 80ft in elevation change. Just wondering how you all deal with different weather. And if you have any tips and tricks to make my commute more enjoyable. I have a helmet. I don’t know if I really need any other gear, but I do have skate park gear as well.

I assume I’m going to sweat significantly more than if I rode a bike. Maybe packing an extra shirt or having a dedicated transit shirt, just so I’m not wearing sweaty clothes all day?

Practicing for my 2st 404mk2 live set - Is there a way to keep the Sub Pad from creating problems

Been practicing for a live set — holding down pads that are stemmed out from sections of various songs. Problem I've had a few times is if my hand accidentally brushes against the sub pad, it thinks I'm retriggering the last pad stops the sound on that pad.

It would actually be kind of a bad situation to have that live so I'm wondering if there's any way to protect against that? It happens almost every time I practice when i get into toggling a bunch of effects and stuff.

A pump board for commuting?

Hi all,

I am moving from my walk to work location and now need to commute 4mi. I am thinking to get Pantheon board as those seem highly reputable. I'm in Brooklyn and my commute is mostly flat. I noticed that the Pranayama and Trip are not built for pumping. Should I just expect to push my entire commute? I can already pump from years of surfskating so that's not an issue. What would you suggest? Would I not even want to pump during a regular commute? I read that it's actually less efficient than just pushing...

NYC - best transition to learn to drop in and get over fear

Been skating for about a year and ready to drop in. But frightened af. I’ve skated at the greenpoint park (nowhere to really drop in I think), owls head (too steep and concrete is sketchy) red hook (like 4’ but still maybe a bit big, seems really steep from the top, but maybe ok?) rockaway (I forget if there’s anything there - don’t think so)

anywhere else that has a mellow slope that is forgiving for a beginner? Willing to drive to the right spot.

Is there a bathroom at the MSS on Coney Island?

I signed up for that really early class in a few weeks. Thing is Im a heavy caffeine addict and really need to drink like 4 cups of coffee in the morning to get anything going and that includes a lot of bathroom trips 😆 totally serious. Otherwise I’m aching and have headaches all day. I know… sad. But at least it’s just caffeine and that’s my only vice. Just wondering if I should wake up extra early to caffeinate or switch to an afternoon class.

DRC warnings after moving text on footprint

As I assume most people do, I move the silkscreen and reference text around on my PCB design which makes it out of parity with the library component. Then when running DRC I get warnings for all of my components that it "Does not match" the library component. Is there a way to better work so that I don't get these warnings? Or should I just ignore them? For clarity and organization I prefer to have no warnings. What are best practices here?

New rider helmet question

Just trying on different gear while I get ready to get my license. I got a bitwell Gringo it seems to fit pretty snuggly around my noggin. It doesn’t come off if I pull from the back, but in the front, even with the chin strap firmly fastened, I can pull it up a few inches. There’s nothing mechanically locking the front in place - like the curvature of the head or something - so I assume this is normal?

Ableton Push 3 MPE to iPad

Just downloaded the Mariana iOS synth by Moog and loving the sounds so far. I’m using Push 3 as my main controller and it responds to pressure ok. There’s also and MPE “3rd dimension” setting that I was hoping to be able to map to horizontal or vertical motion on the push pads. But it doesn’t seem to be reading it even though I see there’s midi in on my interface. It doesn’t seem to respond to sliding notes either.

I’m wondering if anyone was able to get either sliding notes or this “third dimension“ working with MIDI sent from Push. Any tips in general I’m working with MPE in iOS?

Realistic to create top to bottom full production on iPad (coming from Ableton)

My laptop just died and I have an iPad A16 I’ve barely used. I don’t want to buy another laptop but still have my desktop running Ableton. I make dark cinematic, fully refined tracks - a lot of automation, live takes, processing mixing etc.

I’ve dabbled in Drambo a bit and love some iOS plugins. But I always liked taking my laptop wherever and still being able to make full tracks. I’m not afraid of a learning curve but just don’t want to invest the time if the iPad is not going to be a good alternative. Or maybe it’s the kind of thing where I just do a lot of sound design and rough sketches on the iPad and import to Ableton later?

I’m looking for some inspiration of live performed hard-core glitch breaks

Nothing against Lofi hip-hop… I kind of like it myself, but it just seems to be too ubiquitous all over. I’m curious if there’s anyone using the 404 for live performed, glitch beats and hard-core cut ups… Kind of like IDM meets death metal or something like that…

Select an effect while it’s on without toggling it off?

Let’s say I’m changing the pitch of a pad while for example the isolator is on. Now I want to tweak the parameters of the isolator so I have to choose that effect slot, right? The problem is when I press it. It turns off, so I have to turn it back on again. I’m sure there was a workaround for this. I just haven’t found out yet.

Also, I have trouble selecting the correct bus. Is there a quick way to do this without constantly toggling the bus button? Any other good tips for quickly changing effect parameters or some hidden button combinations that help?

Just me or is it impossible to edit a rack with more than one chain on push 3 standalone?

I have a grouped instrument/rack that I made on desktop and I saved it to my push standalone. The intention is that it’s a double chain template instrument. However, only the first chain is selectable and editable. Is that a known limitation on push standalone? Or am I missing something?

Push 3 - Is there a way to assign a note per pad?

I want to experiment with some guitar type tunings on the Push and to do this I want to define individual rows and columns to emulate a fretboard - any idea how i can do this? I don't think the tuning script can do per note right?

On Push : Is there a quick or easy way to extend an audio clip to double or quadruple, etc. the length?

Constantly finding myself wanting to expand a control envelope for a parameter on an audio clip. On Live desktop is pretty straightforward, but on Push I can’t figure out a way to do it. I assume you need to bounce a clip to a new clip or something?

Is there a quick way to do this without having to create a new track with input from the existing track that you want to record, etc.?

Thoughts on Push as a step sequencer for external gear?

I’ve had push for a while, but just hooked it up to some external drum machines and wanted to get some grooves going with the step sequencer. I found it rather difficult and unintuitive but I only messed around for 10mins. Maybe that’s just because I’m not used to it yet? I’d love to hear your thoughts if you find it useful for sequencing external gear. I kind of want to do more of this so I’m looking for the best solution that isn’t too complex or costly.

Just wondering if I should continue to drill down on push and get it working well or if I should look elsewhere. In the past, I’ve really loved the Elektron sequencer and the ease with which you could get dynamics and probabilities, etc. I know you can do this with push too, but I’d love to know if it’s as accessible and intuitive once I learn it.

A few questions for Vespa / scooter owners re rain, snow storage etc

I want to get a Vespa later this month after I get my license. I’ve heard a few people say that they are kind of useless in the rain. A friend of mine said it’s fine as long as you’re just slow and careful. Obviously I’m not going to ride it in a full downpour but drizzling / wet road?

Regarding the deep winter months - Jan through March is it going to get completely trashed on the street? What did you do when we had that 2 weeks of ice this past winter?

As of now, I have nowhere to park one except on the street. Is there affordable seasonal storage anyone could recommend? Another friend of mine had a GTS that he rode year round. But he had a front patio to park it on too.

In any case, I’m not gonna get a new one bc I don’t think I could stand how precious it would be. Preferably one that already has a few dings….

I want to set up a processing rack with midi controller. What's the best way to do this?

I have an A16 iPad laying around that I want to set up as a dedicated multieffects rack for external audio. I plan to use the iPad it just for that, always leave it set up with a rack of effects - no recording or changing effects too often - almost like a dedicated hardware rig but in my iPad — just audio in and out.

Ideally I can easily control everything with dedictated knobs on a knobby controller. In my dream world I wouldn’t ever have to touch the iPad - the controller would be mapped to several dedicated Params (labeled on the controller) - possible?

I have the iPad, I have a Novation Launchcontrol XL, an M2 interface and some effects. So I guess I'm there... I just don't know what the best way to set up is... AUM? Something else? Any other tips?

What’s the one hardware upgrade I can make that can’t be replaced by software?

I’m selling some synths because I’m pretty much using only soft synths these days for efficiency and flow. So I have about a 3k budget and wondering if I should reinvest that in my studio.

Is there any nice upgrade I can do that would really help my sound/productivity/efficiency? Something that you can really only get in outboard? It could be something really boring - as long as it ups my game and professionalism.

I would suggest a high quality A/D/A to myself but I’m really just producing more in the box. Maybe some other kind of outboard bus processor 🤔 I am keeping a moog synth and a few other pedals and things.
