I made a real-time twist on the classic naval duels and i'm releasing my first game on Steam

Fleet Hunters is my attempt to reimagine one of my favorite tabletop classics: hidden fleets, but with both players firing in real time.

I built it solo, and it launches on Steam in less than one month.

It includes single-player against AI, ranked online multiplayer, private matches with friends, LAN play, and both real-time and traditional turn-based Classic Mode.

Here's my Steam page if anyone's interested. Wishlists are highly appreciated.

How long does Steam re-review take after fixing a single build issue?

I submitted my game for Steam review on July 28. On August 4, Valve failed it for one issue: the store page listed HDR support, but they couldn’t find an HDR toggle. ( i was not showing one, unless hdr was actually available on the system )

I fixed the HDR issue and marked it resolved less than an hour later.

Since then, there has been no new telemetry activity, so it looks like the corrected build hasn’t even been opened yet.

For anyone who has gone through this: how long did Steam take to re-review a build after a single straightforward fix? Does it usually go back into the full queue?

First Steam release for me, so I’m still figuring out whether this is a normal delay or whether patience is another requirement I forgot to implement.

My Godot Project Had 100,000+ Files. Here’s How I Fixed Slow Export Times

I added a character selection screen to my Godot game using randomized 2D avatars made from individual texture parts.

It worked, but it created a pretty annoying problem: tens of thousands of texture files, slower editor file search, and export times going from seconds to minutes.

I ended up finding a way around it without rebuilding my whole asset pipeline, and made a short video about the setup.

Curious if anyone else has run into this kind of issue with large numbers of files in Godot, and how you handled it.

My first Godot game reached 800 wishlists on Steam. June Next Fest is next

Fleet Hunters is my first Steam game, built in Godot, and it just crossed 800 wishlists.

The demo has been live for about 3 weeks, and I’m now preparing for my first Steam Next Fest.

I’m still polishing the Steam page and demo, especially the first-time player experience. Would love feedback from other Godot devs if anything feels unclear or weak.

My first Steam game just reached 800 wishlists. Feels good. Now preparing for June Steam Next Fest

I’m a solo dev working on Fleet Hunters.

The demo is already live, and I’m preparing for June Steam Next Fest.

This is my first Steam game, so reaching 800 wishlists feels pretty good.

Steam page: https://store.steampowered.com/app/4074510/Fleet_Hunters/

Would love feedback on the Steam page. I still feel unsure about it and I’m trying to improve it before Next Fest.

I reimagined the classic hidden-fleet game as a real-time naval duel

This is Fleet Hunters, my first Steam game as a solo indie dev.

It’s a real-time naval duel (sp & mp) where you try to locate and destroy the enemy fleet before they find yours. It keeps the simple hunt the hidden ships idea, but turns the action into a real-time battle where ship positioning, weapon timing, and firepower can change the outcome.

For example, shots can even be cancelled if the firing weapon is destroyed by an enemy hit before it launches, etc.

Full game will allow you to play against the computer, locally (over lan) and via the internet with friends or other people.

How effective are other Steam festivals for gathering wishlists compared to Steam Next Fest?

I’m trying to better understand how useful the smaller Steam festivals and themed events are for gathering wishlists, especially compared to Steam Next Fest.

Most advice I’ve seen says that Steam Next Fest is the big one and that it can generate a significant number of wishlists if your demo performs well. But Steam also runs many other themed festivals throughout the year.

For developers who have participated in both:

  • How many wishlists did you get from smaller Steam festivals compared to Steam Next Fest?
  • Were the smaller festivals still worth preparing for?
  • Did they bring meaningful traffic, or mostly just minor visibility?

I’m especially interested in real examples or rough ratios if anyone has any data.

Fleet Hunters: my first Steam game, a real-time retro-modern Battleship-inspired strategy game [PC | Demo] [win, mac, linux]

Playable Link:

https://store.steampowered.com/app/4074510/Fleet_Hunters/?utm_source=reddit&utm_campaign=r_playmygame

Platform:
STEAM (Windows, Linux, MacOS)

Description:
Fleet Hunters is a real-time naval action strategy game inspired by classic battleship-style gameplay, but redesigned to feel faster and more active. Instead of waiting for turns, both players act at the same time. You place your fleet, search for the enemy, and fire as soon as your weapons are ready. Every shot matters because hits, misses, and patterns give you clues about where the enemy ships might be.

Free to Play Status: DEMO ✅🎮

****

I’m the solo developer behind Fleet Hunters through my indie studio, Gnarly Labs. I designed and built the game myself using Godot, including the gameplay systems, UI, visuals, Steam page, trailer, and demo. This is my first solo Steam title, and I’m currently improving the game based on player feedback before the planned full release around the end of summer 2026.

I’d really appreciate any plays, feedback, bug reports, or suggestions, especially around pacing, controls, clarity.

Thanks.

I released my first Steam demo, and honestly, it went better than I expected.

I released my first Steam demo, and it went better than I expected but now I’m confused by the Steam analytics.

Before using Steamworks, I was honestly a bit intimidated. I expected the setup, build uploads, store configuration, review process, and demo release flow to be much more complicated. But once I went through it step by step, it was actually pretty straightforward. There are a lot of sections to fill in, but nothing felt as scary as I expected.

Updating and releasing updates to the game is also freaking awesome, coming from some who only released stuff on Apple Store or Android Play (where for each small update you would have to wait for review, etc)

The harder part for me has been understanding what happens after the demo goes live.

For example, my Lifetime Free Licenses number is roughly 10x higher than the number of users who actually played the demo. I assume this means a lot of people added/claimed the demo but never launched it, which makes sense, but I have no idea if that ratio is normal.

For other devs who released a Steam demo: did you also see a big gap between free licenses and actual players? What kind of ratio did you get, and which Steam stats did you find most useful after launch?

Fleet Hunters - Gnarly Labs - reimagined naval battle of ships with a retro modern vibe and real time action

Fleet Hunters is a naval action game where a classic battle of ships is reimagined with a retro-modern vibe and real-time action.

You position your fleet, search for enemy ships, launch strikes, and react quickly as the battle unfolds.

I'm a solo indie dev, and this is my first Steam game. My first demo just launched yesterday, and I'm planning to release the full game later this year.

If you want to try it or see the game in action, here are the links:

First demo release on Steam. Feel good!

I just released my first demo on Steam after a bit of a grind.

Trying to polish and get everything ready for Steam Next Fest.

I've been working on this on and off since around June 2025.
