How would you prioritize tasks for college courses?

New user here! Sorry if this is basic af, I have ADHD pretty bad and really struggle with this stuff.

I’ve always heard that “high priority” tasks should be saved for absolutely no more than 3, and preferably 1 task per day, and that medium and low priority could be basically any number. This was always helpful.

But that system just doesn’t work for coursework and I’m really not sure how to prioritize things now? Like let’s say I have a bunch of graded assignments due this week, with four of the six being worth a significant amount of points. Then, there are lectures and readings I need to get through to be able to complete those assignments at all.

It feels like the readings and such are less of a priority because they’re ungraded, but if I really need them to complete the work, are they really?

How would you prioritize this kind of work? I really like Eisenhower matrixes for just picking something to do but I’m overwhelmed. I’d like to get it sorted during the summer semester so I’m set for a busy autumn!

Advice for returning to healthy exercise and keeping it recovery focused?

I used to enjoy running and it used to be essential for my mental health, but got to the point with my ED where I couldn’t do it anymore. For reference, I am kind of lazy by nature lol I was never at risk of over exercising. Even when exercise wasn’t a healthy behavior for me, I think even my very protective friends would agree I wasn’t doing too much.

I was cleared by my doctor a while ago to exercise whenever it started feeling good again, so I decided to try running, and I found that I was not ready to run again. This was emotionally pretty hard, and I crashed out a bit and relapsed.

Now I want to try again starting with Pilates (real mat Pilates, not the kind of toxic cardio ones you might be thinking of lol) to just build up some strength and work up to trying to run again later when I’m stronger.

I’m not in all-in recovery, but I am focusing a lot more on my health and eating more. My doctor thought the health benefits would outweigh risks, and that it would have a positive effect on my mental health. I agree tbh. Running was surprisingly fantastic for my confidence and the way I cared for my body (you need to eat carbs/sleep well etc).

I’m just really nervous that starting to exercise again will trigger another relapse the first time I’m making any real recovery progress, but I feel soooo much anxious energy that I miss running to shed off, and I’m tired of feeling super weak all the time.

I feel like I’m doing it for the right reasons, and I had a friend go through the YouTube channel I plan to use and check to make sure it wouldn’t use triggering language. But I’m still worried that if I can’t do it, I’m going to think about how I’m gaining weight and still not any stronger and wonder what the point of any of this is then.

Have any of you navigated returning to exercise in a way that’s healthy for both your body and mind in an earlier recovery stage? I’d love advice.

Bring back the Community Day Stickers!!!

That is all lol. I’m a returning player and have at least one of each of all the old stickers, and I was checking the shop, spinning Pokestops, and opening gifts wondering why I wasn’t seeing any stickers before I searched the sub and saw they stopped doing them last year. 😭😭😭

Niantic baby please. The stickers always made every event feel so special. I can look at my old stickers and remember where I was and the fun I had. Bring them back I beg.

(But this was a really fun Community Day for me! I’m so happy to be playing again. I got to fully evolve a 3* shiny for me and another shiny for my bestie who couldn’t play today, and I got a shiny + special background Frigibax!)

Why is it common to cry during meditation? And what’s actually happening?

I was doing a guided meditation today, and as soon as my body really relaxed, I burst into uncontrollable tears (I also realized during this that I hold a lot of tension in my eyes lol). I meditate semi-frequently using the Waking Up app, and this was a meditation there called Nervous System Reset led by Kelly Boys which I had never done before, if that’s relevant.

The tears came very suddenly. It felt very strange to me because I associate crying with thoughts that make me cry, but there were really no thoughts here.

I’ve heard over and over that crying while meditating is normal and is some kind of release, especially when new to meditation, but what is actually happening when this happens?

I meditate and usually don’t cry, for instance, even on (in person) day retreats I’ve done, so I don’t think it’s not being used to being in a meditative state.

And what kind of release is it/what are some theories about how and why it happens?

I’m just extremely curious.

Difference in how people perceive ADHD traits in men vs women makes me so sad

Idk I just feel incredibly dumb all the time and I know for a fact that people think I’m stupid because they’ve said it to my face before lol.

I think as a woman whenever I go into ADHD-excited mode, no matter what I’m saying people think I’m ditzy as hell even if what I’m excited about is one of the few things I’m really knowledgeable about, which are mostly all on the academic side. I’m bad at articulating my thoughts on the spot and feel much more confident writing them out, too, so I’m also slow when speaking and get interrupted a lot.

I feel like where I’m seen as a big dumb idiot, those same traits in ADHD men are seen as like….cute and approachable and quirky. (I’m not saying all traits! Just the ones specifically that make people see me as dumb at first). Same with zoning out.

It’s already frustrating, but when I think about the difference in how people perceived the same behavior in me versus in past boyfriends or my brother with ADHD, I feel so unbelievably sad.

That’s all I’ve got. It’s just sad.

Looking for friends from non-USA countries/different states to collect postcards

I also do daily gifts and play every day (returning player). I can very occasionally join a remote raid, too.

I’m in the US in Ohio and like to collect interesting places in my postcard book! I’d really love to collect from other countries (preference), but I’d also be happy to add people from other US states.

I put stickers on everything, but if you also collect postcards, lmk here who you are and I’ll prioritize you for my favorite gifts/stickers, too. You can shoot me a chat if you prefer, just lmk you did or I won’t see it lol.

Trainer Code: 219046928977

I’ll also put it in a separate comment so it’s easier to copy/paste.

How to fix black homepage on Firefox when my watch history is on?

I’m signed in on my laptop to an account I’ve been using for ages. I don’t sign out, and I’ve never turned off my Watch History. I double checked that it was on anyhow. It’s on and registering videos I search and watch.

But my homepage is still completely black. No suggested videos, no topics, absolutely nothing.

I can still search for and watch videos and see all my subscriptions and comment.

I’ve updated and restarted Firefox. Everything works fine on Chrome, but I hate using Chrome. Yes I have an ad blocker on Firefox, but the issue remains when it’s off, too.

Any ideas?

Edit to add: on a MacBook on the latest Firefox!

Honestly terrified to start intermediate classes in autumn and need advice (especially on listening)

I major in Korean in college. I’ve taken through to the upper beginner/lower intermediate courses individually (I basically go in alone and show what I self-studied roughly every weekday for 15 minutes). My school uses the Integrated Korean textbooks/workbooks supplemented with self-study PDFs. I’ve finished both beginner books.

I’ve been doing fine (not great lol but fine) and getting As. I think the worst grade I’ve gotten on a lesson is a B. My teachers are all genuinely incredibly kind and helpful (like, truly above and beyond kind, lovely people).

But I’m scared to the point that I’m panicking about starting the true intermediate classes in the autumn. I just don’t feel prepared and would like to at least try to prepare.

My listening skills are honestly piss poor no matter how hard I try. I listen to the textbook dialogues repeatedly, I practice with various TTMIK materials (more beginner dialogues, the beginner podcasts, etc), I try YouTube podcasts for beginners with Korean subs, and I watch lots of content in Korean with English subs just for fun. My listening is still genuinely terrible. My teachers were giving me extra practice to try and help, even. I’ve been actively working on this for well over a year, and I still really struggle with beginner podcasts that are a level I could easily read and understand.

I’m supposed to be easily holding simple conversations but I’m pausing to think for way too long and as soon as I hear something I don’t recognize (or sometimes a number) it’s like my brain just completely blanks out and I don’t hear anything after. There are a lot of things I could read easily that I know I wouldn’t understand at all if one of my teachers spoke them to me.

Also, I often forget the nuances of the different grammar points (when speaking especially but also writing) and pick the first one I remember that kind of works even if it’s not the ideal one. There are always a few words I just never remember out of every set, which adds up to a lot of words I only kind of remember.

I really don’t know what to do and I’m freaking out lol. I’m going to review my vocab/past lesson pages/previous dialogues before the semester starts obviously, but is there anything else you would recommend to prepare? I will literally try anything at this point except travel (because I’m broke and in summer classes). 😭 I want to learn this damn language so badly but I’m starting to fear I’m just too stupid lol

Struggling to organize growing "cute" collection. Advice?

I had a very small pocket binder of "cute" cards (just official cards with Pokemon I think are cute and with art I think is pretty. A few nicer cards but many common). It's growing enough that I'm getting an A5 binder for them now, but even after reading the sticky thread's organizing section I'm not really sure how to organize them.

I'd ideally do Pokedex order because I like to collect a lot of my favorite Pokemon and they don't come from any particular set, but I notice that a lot of ring binder pages, especially in my preferred A5 size, don't have many higher quality page options, and I'd want it in a ring binder so that I didn't have a lot of empty space, since I don't think leaving space makes sense for this particular collection, and I don't want to be constantly moving them all around every time I add a new Pokemon.

(I prefer A5 size mostly because I also collect kpop photocards and anything not in a small collect book is A5. I'd like to store them together and have them look neat. I'd be willing to switch to A4, but I'd be a little grumpy about it.)

This is honestly my favorite little collection and I'd really like to not separate them. It makes me so happy to flip through them! But I am starting to get worried I'm going to accidentally buy a card I already have lol so I know it's time to organize.

I'd love any other ideas for organizing that might make more sense, and I'll also definitely take A5 page recs. My algorithm mostly shows me kpop photocard sized ones even when I search TCG lol.

I really want to get better about wearing ear protection when I practice my instruments because my grandma started her dramatic hearing loss at my age and I'm noticing I'm missing more in conversations.

I practice alto and tenor recorders and cello. I'm thinking of picking up a soprano recorder too, which is I think quite a bit louder than the others.

My friend gave me a pair of Experience 2 for a concert, and I was wondering if they would be enough to prevent hearing damage while playing? I'd rather not get another pair, but I will if it'll help my ears! I lost the other pair of non-Loops I very sporadically used lol

If you do recommend another pair, do any of the other ones affect the pitch at all? I want to be able to hear if I'm in tune very accurately, particularly playing cello. I'll likely skip them occasionally to check tone.

A Psalm for the Wild-Built by Becky Chambers

It's been centuries since the robots of Panga gained self-awareness and laid down their tools; centuries since they wandered, en masse, into the wilderness, never to be seen again; centuries since they faded into myth and urban legend. One day, the life of a tea monk is upended by the arrival of a robot, there to honor the old promise of checking in. The robot cannot go back until the question of "what do people need?" is answered. But the answer to that question depends on who you ask, and how. They're going to need to ask it a lot.

I'm in a bit of a music rut and am trying to find more songs/albums that have interesting narratives. Examples of ones I know and like:

  • Another New World - Josh Ritter (love love love this one)
  • The Curse - Josh Ritter
  • like any Sufjan Stevens album
  • Genius Next Door - Regina Spektor
  • A lot of Belle and Sebastian songs
  • Everything by clipping.

Would prefer that the music itself is nothing that goes harder than anything I listed here lol (I know clipping. is the outlier but they fit perfectly, and for reference I do love their sound) but nothing is off limits in terms of what the story is about, language, etc.

Thank you in advance!

Edit: obviously as soon as I made this post my internet started acting up lol but trying to listen to these now!! Tysm!! I’m enjoying them so far.

Edit edit: I’m starting to lose track of what I’ve listened to lol but these are some great recs, thank you all so much!!

Basically the title!

Long version: I’m inattentive type and have a hard time doing even beloved hobbies in the best of times. Right now I’m pretty depressed and just want to nap all the time.

When I take my Adderall, I can still start things more easily! But since I’m more depressed right now, I get bored in about five minutes max and just want to nap again.

What are some really easy things you guys do to just avoid bed rotting?

For me, I think since I have inattentive ADHD, I can stay in bed daydreaming basically forever.

Don’t say scroll. 😭😭😭

We are back with five BTS-adjacent books to choose from: each month our options are based on a group/member song and connected theme. Over the last few years, we’ve concentrated on books that were either seen with or being read by a member, recommended by or for them, or books about BTS and their music. We thought they might be too restrictive on the chosen theme (our boys love themselves some self-help!), so we’ve expanded our options but you may still see them throughout the year as our ult-list is quite long.

This month’s song and theme are: Equal Sign - Good in the world, Equality Take a look at May's picks and vote on what we should read next!

Title - BTS Connection Description Page Count
Love in the Big City by Sang Young Park trans. Anton Hur (2022) Young is a cynical yet fun-loving Korean student who pinballs from home to class to the beds of recent Tinder matches. He and Jaehee, his female best friend and roommate, frequent nearby bars where they push away their anxieties about their love lives, families, and money with rounds of soju and ice-cold Marlboro Reds that they keep in their freezer. Yet over time, even Jaehee leaves Young to settle down, leaving him alone to care for his ailing mother and to find companionship in his relationships with a series of men, including one whose handsomeness is matched by his coldness, and another who might end up being the great love of his life. 256
Station Eleven by Emily St. John Mandel (2015) It is fifteen years after a flu pandemic wiped out most of the world's population. Kirsten is an actress with the Traveling Symphony, a small troupe moving over the gutted landscape, performing Shakespeare and music for scattered communities of survivors. But when they arrive in the outpost of St. Deborah by the Water, they encounter a violent prophet who digs graves for anyone who dares to leave. Spanning decades, moving back and forth in time, and vividly depicting life before and after the disaster brought everyone here, this suspenseful, elegiac novel is rife with beauty, telling a story about the relationships that sustain us. 352
A Psalm for the Wild-Built by Becky Chambers (2021) It's been centuries since the robots of Panga gained self-awareness and laid down their tools; centuries since they wandered, en masse, into the wilderness, never to be seen again; centuries since they faded into myth and urban legend. One day, the life of a tea monk is upended by the arrival of a robot, there to honor the old promise of checking in. The robot cannot go back until the question of "what do people need?" is answered. But the answer to that question depends on who you ask, and how. They're going to need to ask it a lot. 160
James by Percival Everett (2024) When Jim overhears that he is about to be sold to a man in New Orleans, separated from his wife and daughter forever, he runs away until he can formulate a plan. Meanwhile, Huck has faked his own death to escape his violent father. As all readers of American literature know, thus begins the dangerous and transcendent journey by raft down the Mississippi River toward the elusive and unreliable promise of the Free States and beyond. 320
On Earth We’re Briefly Gorgeous by Ocean Vuong (2019) On Earth We’re Briefly Gorgeous is a letter from a son to a mother who cannot read. Written when the speaker, Little Dog, is in his late twenties, the letter unearths a family’s history that began before he was born — a history whose epicenter is rooted in Vietnam — and serves as a doorway into parts of his life his mother has never known, all of it leading to an unforgettable revelation. At once a witness to the fraught yet undeniable love between a single mother and her son, it is also a brutally honest exploration of race, class, and masculinity. Asking questions central to our American moment, immersed as we are in addiction, violence, and trauma, but undergirded by compassion and tenderness, On Earth We’re Briefly Gorgeous is as much about the power of telling one’s own story as it is about the obliterating silence of not being heard. 256
