I’m a public defender, ask me anything

Public defender for the last 10 years, and have handled everything from driving under the influence to murder 1. I’ve defended hundreds of people and am currently working to become death penalty qualified.

Why are all of the men I’ve dated actually inept toddlers in adult bodies

Please tell me I’m not the only one.

Years of therapy have taught me that I seek out men that need “fixing.” I lived in a terrible marriage for so many years and stayed because of my kid and because my husband wasn’t physically abusive. Therapy gave me the confidence to leave, and I’m proud of myself.

Even before marriage, I have always been the one in every long term relationship to do… well, everything. On top of working a full-time, high-pressure job, I would do everything at home: Grocery shopping, oil changes, planning vacations, handling bills, lawn-mowing, taxes. Every single thing pertaining to our kid- Gun to head, my ex husband couldn’t name our child’s teacher, soccer coach, or pediatrician of 10 years.

I’m dipping my toes back in in my late 30s and this behavior it’s something I’ve always found myself defaulting to, because of issues in my childhood (watching my mom do all of the above things for my dad). I suppose I’m just venting/reflecting.

Does anyone have any advice on switching mindset? Green flags to look for? I can’t imagine finding someone that would work with me as a partner and not be another obligation on my to-do list.

Late 30s and need help with fresher makeup

My skin is rough right now because I just increased my tretinoin strength. My birthday is next week and I can’t help feeling a bit… old and dry. Tips to make my makeup more polished for everyday wear? I was told to cut the bronzer but I feel like my face is flat/1 dimensional without it.

You all helped me release the iron millennial grip I had on my translucent powder and orange bronzer and matte lipstick, and switch to brown mascara- it’s made such a difference. This community is amazing- thank you for any help!

When did you achieve peak beard density?

My brother is in his late 20s and has approx 4 (give or take) facial hairs. He’s very afraid he will never be able to grow an actual beard (like our Dad/ granddad/ other men in our family).

Google tells me sometimes it can take into your mid 30s to fill in, but anecdotally I’ve heard it happens during puberty. I am a beardless lady so am unable to draw from personal experience.

Tired, so very tired of male-centered subreddits in my feed.

I’m going to curate my feed into a more positive space! Can you guys recommend your favorite non-toxic, inclusive, supportive subreddits for women here?

This space is lovely and I want more like it ❤️

7-10 day delay between Tret prescriptions

And I’m going up to max dose. I’m so frustrated with my pharmacy.

Will this reset my progress? What should I do during my lag time?

Trying to find my sparkle after a divorce; please be kind. Last pic is my normal wfh fit

Curves like a ruler, complexion of a deceased Victorian child, and feeling like I can’t find anything that fits me right. General advice? Colors/ styles that would work best for me? I’m a little self conscious at the moment as I try to find my way again.

I’m going on a girls trip and will need a mixture of dresses. I’m 5’10 and struggle to find clothes the right length.

Thank you for any tips ❤️

Am I broken?

Background: I got married in my early 20s. After more than 10 years of marriage and two kids, I got divorced. I’ve been divorced for a couple of years, but the marriage was “over” well before then. My husband was a lazy, selfish slob with occasional fits of rage. He was another “kid” I had to care for.

I’m in my late thirties, have two healthy and well-adjusted elementary aged kids, and am absolutely slaying in my dream job. I feel more happy and more free than I have for most of my adult life.

I’ve been very clear that I won’t ever get married again, and will probably live my life without another major romantic partner. This doesn’t scare me. My life is infinitely better as a divorced single mom. I love living in a house where I’m the only shot-caller. Where I don’t need to tiptoe around.

My well-meaning parents (who I adore and see several times a week) have a healthy relationship and are concerned that my lack of partnership is a sign that I am not healed, or am not “fully recovered” from my first marriage. That I am afraid of commitment. That something is broken, and that once my heart has healed, I’ll be ready for a partner to share my life with. My mom is my bff, and she worries about me being lonely, or “alone” as I age. I have a couple of close friends, and am very close with my siblings (I have 4), but I value my time alone/ with my kids, generally speaking. I have hobbies/crafts that I am into, and love reading and gardening. I’m not depressed… it’s the opposite.

I went to a couple of counseling sessions while going through the divorce. I mostly looked to someone as a sounding board and felt validated in my choice. I didn’t feel the need to keep going.

Im not asexual, but I’m not lonely. I have not been on a date since my divorce and have no desire to ever do so again. Is this indicative of a deeper issue?
