2010 Mazda SPEED 3 battery draining when engine is off

My son is away at school and left his 2010 Mazdaspeed 3 manual transmission with me. I've been driving it at least once a week but the battery keeps draining even when the car is off. First, I thought the battery was bad so I put in a new battery. But after a couple of days the battery would still be dead. I got a digital meter and tested the battery. It reads 12.70 when the engine is off and 13.85 when the engine is on. So the alternator seems to be working. So I got a trickle charger to keep it charged between uses. I charged the battery to 100% and then drove it for 30 or 40 minutes and hooked the trickle charger back up and according to the charger it was only at about 40% immediately after driving it. So then I charge it back up using the trickle charger to 100% and then unhook the trickle charger and in 24 hours with the engine off it's down to 30%. Any ideas??

People lining up at Five Below?

I've noticed several times when I was at the mall before 8:00 a.m. that there was a line of people waiting to get into the store Five Below. They had chairs and had formed a line, it looked like they had been sitting there for a while. What's going on with this store?

ULPT: I DID IT!! I actually used a piss disk!!

I love visiting this sub and I know you guys like to joke about it all the time, but I did it, I actually did it! I'm so proud of myself.

I have this crazy a-hole neighbor. The cops get called to their house at least twice a month for domestic disturbance. He has this big old piece of crap truck that he parks on the street and treats it like it's a race car. Numerous stickers of the expected political persuasion on it. This guy's your classic jerk off. I put up one yard sign each election cycle for the Democratic nominee and he always steals it. And he has two big dogs that he leaves out all night and they bark constantly and I'm always finding his dog's crap in my yard, I'm almost certain he's throwing it over here. There have been numerous ugly encounters with him over the years. I could go on but you get the idea. You're average run of the mill nightmare neighbor.

Anyway, I have been thinking about posting here as to what I could do to him to put him in his place when the other day I was leaving for work I noticed that his rear window on the driver side was left open about 2-3 in. So I had an idea. I went in and I made a piss disk and for good measure I opened a can of tuna and squeezed the water into it. And I put it in the freezer. I told myself if that night the window was still open I would slip it in. Sure enough, when I got home from work it was still open. So later that night I snuck over there and I put it through the window. It was such a glorious feeling! I don't even know how to express how great it felt! I was scared out of my mind but it was exhilarating at the same time. It's going to be hot all week too. Sweet justice!!

EDIT: Thanks for all the responses! Several have asked for an update, not much has happened actually. It seems he hasn't driven his truck in a few days as it is still sitting there with the window partially open. I doubt he will ever know what really happened. I'm assuming he'll think it was some kind of animal that got in there.

I'm not worried about my post history, this guy has zero social media life. I've tried googling him in the past and the only thing I found was a partial arrest record.

Realistic cost for utility hook up

Trying to get my ducks in a row before I pull the trigger. If all utilities are at the street...water, sewer and electric, and the house is about 50 feet from the street, what is a realistic cost to get tied into the city lines including permits.

Edit: sorry, I forgot to mention, I'm in Los Angeles county

Has anybody used Houseplans.com?

Getting ready to buy a lot and we plan to build an investment home for either rent or possibly immediate resale. Since we won't be living there we aren't looking to design our dream home and it's a pure investment, we'll want to keep things as affordable as possible. So plans off the internet seems the logical way to go. Has anyone used Houseplans.com? Do they provide everything we need to submit to the city/county? (The build will be in Los Angeles county) How about their "cost to build" estimator?

Question for an electrician

Not sure if this is the right sub but something very strange is happening in my house, I'm hoping somebody here might know what is going on. One section of the house, my garage, has almost no power. The garage door opens very slooowly, but it does open and close. The kitchen fridge and the garage fridge don't come on at all and the lights in the garage don't come on. But everything else in the house works fine. The HVAC is running fine and even my EV home charging is working fine. I tried resetting every breaker and even switched the main off and back on. No luck. It kind of seems like a brown out then why is the HVAC working fine?

Any ideas???

EDIT: ok, so the garage door is opening slowly because it has a back up battery. As far as I can tell the only things that don't work are run off the garage 15 amp breaker. Two fridges, the garage door opener and the lights in the garage. That's it. The breaker isn't tripped, I switched it on and off several times and it didn't help. I also tried hooking up the generator to the house (plugs in to a specific outlet below the panel that I had installed) but that didn't work either.

You are offered a life of wealth and solitude

You are given the opportunity to live in an isolated mansion with every comfort you can imagine. Gourmet food, pools, spas, giant TV with every movie and show ever created, unlimited Internet even drugs and booze if that's your thing. If you can think of it, you can have it. BUT...

You must live in complete and total isolation from all other living things. No people, no pets, not even rodents, for the rest of your life. Plants and trees are the only things living in or near your mansion. You can speak to anyone you want on the internet. You can have video calls with family and friends, social media, phone calls and anything else, but no physical presence of another living being, ever. If you need medical assistance you can talk to your doctor over the Internet and they can send you medicine. But if you need life saving surgery or require emergency care, you will likely die.

If you accept this deal, there is no backing out, if you try and leave your mansion you will die. If you try and sneak anybody in, they will die. If you do not accept this deal, your life will simply continue on as it is now and the offer will never be made available to you again.

Addendum: If you are allowed to have one animal pet of your choosing that is guaranteed to live as long as you do, does that change the calculus for anyone?

Movie about a politician seeming to start a civil war when he's on camera but when he is off camera he's just trying to get laid.

I don't remember a lot about this movie but there is this governor in a southern state that has all this on camera bluster about using the national guard to secede and takes the country to the brink of civil war but once the cameras are gone all he cares about is trying to get laid. Any ideas?

Building a spec house, should I buy the land or use cash for down payment?

We have $100k cash and there is an adorable little 6000 sq ft lot about 10 minutes from our house in the greater Los Angeles area. We are thinking of buying the lot and building a 1200 sq ft two bed two bath, two story home. (See link below for apx idea of what we are thinking for the house)

We have the cash to buy the lot and own it free and clear (IF the owner is willing to accept our $100k cash offer). Should we buy the lot and use it as collateral or use the cash as a down payment for the loan. Does it matter?

All services are at the street and the current owner has already done all surveys, soils and geology reports. What do you think it would cost to build this house? Definitely will use a qualified GC.

An open letter to Boomers from GenX

Dear Boomers,

If you truly don't want to be a burden, then quit being a pain in the ass!

Please listen to your doctor, take your meds, drink the damn ensure, (no, a sip is not enough), and let people help because you don't have to do every frickin thing yourself. And for the love of everything holy, use your damn cane (yes, even when you're in the house) so you don't fall and hurt yourself.

We say this because we love you,

GenX
