What is up with Cambridge Park?

My family & I just moved to Concord from elsewhere in the East Bay. We have young kids & the closest park to us is Cambridge Park off of Monument. We’ve only been during the later afternoon on weekdays so far, but whenever we go it’s either a ghost town with absolutely no one there, or there’s the occasional person sleeping on a bench. I don’t want to judge a book by its cover & assume it’s unsafe based on that, but it’s in a pretty residential area & seems so quiet. Why are there not more families with kids using the facilites? There’s such a nice big playground it just surprises me. Anyone have insight?

Favorite board books/picture books feat POC?

I thought this might be a good place to ask for reccs! My daughter is only 16 months but she loves reading (board books & also lots of shorter pictures books.) I really want to make sure our home library is diverse & features characters of all colors. As she gets older I’ll be intentional about having books written & illustrated by POC as well, but right now it’s all about the pictures—& will be for awhile. :) Would love any recommendations you all have!

What is this lil guy? [Northern California]

He’s under a 12” pie plate (& was safely released back outside after taking this photo) so he’s a small boy

Picked up a really cool Victorian era gold filled bangle today. It's a little tight, but I think it looks great.

I think I’m starting to like being a mom

My baby girl is a little over a year old. She’s so awesome, but damn has the first year postpartum kicked. my. ass. I had a healthy pregnancy, an empowering & positive birth, & I was not fucking prepared for the daily battle of figuring out how to be a mom to an infant AND a semi functioning person. I was in so much emotional turmoil every day, I was so unattached to/unaware of my sense of self (idk how else to explain it) but I’m FINALLY (!!!) starting to feel like a person. Like me. Like a mom who is actually present & engaged & loves getting to spend so much time with this tiny human.

I wish I could go back in time & tell me at 5 months pp how much better things get. I’m also slightly paranoid that this is “just a phase” & things are gonna get bad again. But I’ll be damned if I don’t celebrate the wins along the way

Dinner is big beans with spicy tomato sauce with feta cheese & olives & two pieces of sourdough (& some cheap sauv blanc in a mason jar). The best part?? I shared this girl dinner with my baby girl cause green olives are her favorite food :’)

Edit: couple typos
