That’s my roots on my paternal grandmother’s side. Ancestors arrived to Newport centuries ago and my grandma’s family never left New England. Southern New England to be precise. MA, RI, and CT. People from other places have married in though. I have a sprinkle of Black Southerner from VA and MD if that counts. But it’s mainly New England.

In general it’s not even that bad. Shocker not everyone liked chapter 5. Some people not liking something in the game is not an attack on them and their own enjoyment. Maybe because it’s Reddit because Twitter has shared criticism of chapter 5 too and it didn’t get emotional reactions like this. His cousin Br’er Rabbit in the lowcountry is probably the closely related marsh rabbit. Both are known for being able to swim (to those who aren’t local). I was 12 and I remember being shocked and disturbed by Shin’s age and prostitution. Especially with how young he looked. I never romanticized his relationship with Reira and remember wondering how I could be more aware and mature than her. She felt like a kid in a way that made me uncomfortable. I felt sorry for Shin and still do. The adults failed him and that always stood out to me. NOT a criticism of the series! I love the realism of expectation vs reality even with a topic like this.

None of this is to suggest that whatever practices the Yoruba-speakers brought with them were replicated in “pure” form. The conditions of slavery, mortality, the influx of American-born slaves, and the passage of time would have forced them to adapt and change. But the discovery that a large proportion of this early population likely spoke Yoruba makes a good presumptive case in favor of their influence as a regional charter generation. Racists hate black people yes but by using “us” you’re making it personal to you while exposing some deep insecurities that you’re digging even deeper. And from what I’ve been observing, the type of people who use “us” are not secure in themselves at all. I’ve tried to make a couple see it that way but they dismissed me as being soft or like I’m trying to put the wool over their eyes. It’s really sad to see.

Cuff Slocum’s true name was Kofi so he was definitely Akan but there are different subgroups not just Asante. Was it explicitly stated somewhere? I’m just not a fan of stating “so-and-so was from this specific ethnic group” unless there’s proof.

He used to have one featuring just himself but someone changed it to a picture of himself and his American wife, Julia. The same picture is on Julia’s page. I really like mentor-mentee relationships and cloning is an acceptable explanation but I also think budding is really cool for how alien it is. I’d like to see it make a comeback one day and these two could be used for it.

The Transformers: Generation 2 comic revealed that, after their creation by Primus, early Transformers reproduced by "budding," a mitosis-like form of asexual reproduction whereby Transformers could rapidly reproduce by generating a mass of energized liquid metal from within their body. This mass then splits itself off from the "parent" Transformer to become a new Cybertronian. Illustrations suggest that this is something of a communal event, with others surrounding the budding robot in a circle. Once the Transformers had hit a population level that Primus deemed desirable, the practice stopped and all memory of it was erased.
