Prusa Connect Local to replace PrusaLink??

That's what today's blog post says and I don't think it's accurate. If you click the "sign up" link to test it, it says:

>Run it on your own hardware

It's a single program with nothing else to install. A Raspberry Pi Zero is enough for one printer, while a Pi 4 or 5, an old laptop, or a NAS can comfortably handle a whole workshop. Linux, macOS, and Windows all work.

That sounds great especially for people with multiple printers who want to avoid using the cloud, but that's not a replacement for PrusaLink which just runs on the printer, no additional hardware required. In the FAQ it says

>How is this different from PrusaLink?

PrusaLink is your printer's own interface: one printer, its own IP address, built into the firmware. It keeps working exactly as it does today.

From this, it seems like Prusa is not going to make any improvements to PrusaLink going forward. :-(

Also, for now, running Prusa Connect Local will preclude you from using Prusa Connect on the same printer.

LL OR vs WA: U1 call at the plate, great work by umpire crew (just now)

Great play and great rotation. Two outs, R1 only.

  • Hit to LF corner.
  • U3 goes out, not very far but enough.
  • PU to third.
  • U1 to home.
  • LF gets the ball home and catcher gets it in time.
  • R1 jumps over the catcher's glove and lands his rear foot on the plate.
  • Catcher scrambles to tag him just in case he missed the plate.
  • U1 calls safe.
  • Announcers actually notice that it's U1 not PU making the call.
  • Great play by the players and the umpires.

Printing printable puzzles

I've been printing puzzles from the Printable Puzzle Project https://www.printables.com/@PrintablePuzzleProje and this is my latest print https://www.printables.com/model/171054-pillars-of-hercules-assembly-puzzle-by-stewart-cof

Since many of these puzzles have similar pieces, I'm printing them in different colors with color-coded boxes. From the description.

>Coffin himself was a bit dismissive of this design, writing "for all that extra trouble to make, hardly worth it," perhaps contributing to its relative obscurity. Yet while it is indeed quite difficult to produce using traditional woodworking techniques, it is an extremely easy print! In my opinion, printing a copy is certainly worthwhile, and hopefully 3D printing can help many others enjoy this rare and creative design.

(The tolerances on the angle cuts are a little bit too tight but lightly sanding the surfaces was sufficient.)

If you're new to 3d puzzles, I recommend the Half Hour puzzle as a good first puzzle to print. https://www.printables.com/model/171109-half-hour-assembly-puzzle-by-stewart-coffin-stc-29

A bargain for lefties!

I thought screws were the only thing that came in left-handed varieties at the hardware store. :-)

INDX reports -- keep 'em coming please

Someone wondered if people were getting tired of all the INDX posts. Not yet, at least for me.

I appreciate reading about the issues that founder's edition early adopters have been encountering and especially any tips and tricks they pass on that I expect will be useful in the future.

Thanks!

The Lockbox - original design

I made this box to take to the National Puzzlers' League convention. Original puzzles and design.

{The dials are blurred so as not to reveal details about the puzzles here.)

The box and lock dials are 3d printed. The hasps are from a hardware store and the locks are Masterlock 1523D and 1534D set your own combination locks.

If there's interest, I might create a fully 3d-printable version of this.

Instead of "draining the swamp," Trump built one

It's the color of money and Trump loves money.

That's really want he meant when he said “It never had the color people wanted, but now it’s going to have the great color."

Colors are broken in at least two different ways

Google has really broken the colorize feature of calendar. The picture compares desktop colors to Android. The text on the darker colors like Tomato and Basil is hard to read on desktop because it uses black text against a dark background. It correctly uses a light color on desktop. The text on the lighter colors like Mango and Avocado is easier to read on desktop but they just show up as blue on Android and iOS (using Google Calendar*). Of course, the specific shades of colors don't match between platforms either. Yes, I have the latest version of Google Calendar on Android and iOS.

(*On iOS native calendar, the colors don't show at all but that's Apple's fault.)

Am I the only one who wonders how turtles play soccer?

I saw a chyron on TV saying the US Mutant Ninja Turtles just clinched advancing to the knockout round. Splinter must be so proud.

Replacing the main cable on the Core ONE — the missing instructions and a commemorative badge

I had to replace the main cable on my Core ONE. When I asked Prusa support where the instructions were they said "use the main assembly instructions" which wasn't as helpful as it could be since they're backwards and include other steps interleaved. So, as I was doing the replacement and figuring out what to do, I took notes so other people could benefit from my experience.

I've posted the instructions on Printables along with a commemorative badge you can print out to go with the rest of your Printables badges.

(Note that I was going to post this as an article originally but articles are harder to find than models.)

Man convicted in Jan. 6 riot at US Capitol has a job at the Pentagon

Convicted rioter Elias Irizarry is now providing national security advice to the Pentagon. I guess he knows firsthand what bad actors can do. After all, it worked on TV's "It Takes a Thief" with convicted felon Alexander Mundy (Robert Wagner). What could possibly go wrong?

Chrome moved tab search back to the left

I didn't like it when Google moved tab search into the middle of a bunch of other icons and gave it a complicated hard to identify icon. There was a bunch of publicity when they moved it claiming it was an improvement. Now they've moved it back to the left with as far as I see zero publicity. I thought they'd removed it and it took me a while to notice they'd just moved it and changed the icon back.

I'm glad they moved it but curious why they haven't said anything about it.

Are articles on Printables findable?

Am I missing something or is Printables missing something? Articles are not a category at the top of the page (3d models / Store / Clubs ...). The search box does not list articles even when I enter words in the titles of known articles.

What's the deal? Is Printables de-emphasizing articles or are these findable somewhere else?

Stop your shop light from falling off the ceiling

A simple yet very useful model (to me). I installed these new shop lights in my garage that were wobbling and falling off the ceiling because they're just hanging from two screws. So I made a stopper to keep it on the ceiling and a wedge to keep it from wobbling. Actually, the very first model I ever created.
