Tesla Trade-In: What Happens to My NC License Plate?

Hi,

I traded my car to Tesla in NC, and Tesla gave my license plate back to me.

Does that mean the plate was not transferred?
How do I confirm with NCDMV, and do I need to surrender it?

Thank you

How much are you paying for insurance for your 2026 MY RWD premium in NC or close-by states?

How much are you paying for insurance for your 2026 MY RWD premium in NC or in close by states?

These are my quotes for 6-month insurance:
- $540 with progressive
- $680 with NCFB

Are those good numbers?

Thank you

Ordering a 2026 Model Y RWD Premium —what should I know first?

Hey everyone,

I’m about to order a 2026 Model Y Rear-Wheel Drive Premium and would really appreciate any tips, tricks, or gotchas to watch out for.

For those who’ve recently taken delivery, what surprised you most? Any must-check areas at delivery, hidden fees I should expect, or financing versus cash payment tips?

Also, how’s build quality been lately? Anything you’d inspect closely before accepting the car?

And finally, any advice on home charging setups for this model, especially since I’ve already got a compatible outlet and just need a Level 2 charger, not a full install.

Thanks in advance

Do you really need car insurance to get your driver’s license if you won’t be driving?

My wife passed her learner’s permit exam and is about to take the road test. I’ve read that she may need proof of insurance to get her driver’s license.

The thing is, she won’t be driving for at least a year, so paying for insurance just to get the license seems pointless. She mainly wants to finish the process since she’s already put in the effort to get her permit.

Is insurance actually required just to receive the license after passing the road test (in NC), or are there other options?

Thanks y’all

Buying a 2026 Tesla Model Y with Cash – Can I Inspect the Car Before Paying in Full?

I’m planning to buy a 2026 Tesla Model Y and will be paying cash, but I’m confused about how the delivery process works.

From what I’ve read, it sounds like Tesla wants the full payment before delivery, but that doesn’t make sense to me. I’d like to inspect the car first to make sure there aren’t any major issues (paint defects, panel gaps, damage, etc.) before sending tens of thousands of dollars.

For those of you who recently bought a 2026 Model Y with cash:

1- Were you able to order the car without paying the full balance immediately?

2- Did Tesla require the final payment before you could inspect the vehicle?

Were you allowed to inspect the car before authorizing 3- the payment?

If you found a problem during delivery, what happened?
I’m especially interested in hearing from anyone who purchased recently in the U.S.

Thanks in advance

Is this a good deal? 2024 MY LR AWD, 28k miles, fully paid FSD for $38k

The one big thing for me is that the car is located in the west coast and I am in the east coast so I won’t be able to go see it before making the purchase and if I get it I will have to drive more than two days to bring it home, I don’t trust car shipment.

Can a Plumbing Warranty Company Charge a Trip Fee if They Decide the Issue Isn’t Covered?

Is it normal for a plumbing warranty company to charge the customer for a technician visit if they later decide the issue is “not warrantable”?

I called Weather Master Plumbing about bathroom faucets that allow small amounts of water to travel back onto the countertop if the handle isn’t closed very tightly. They told me that if a technician comes out and determines the issue is not covered under warranty, then I would be charged for the trip/service call.

I’m trying to understand if this is standard practice with plumbing warranty companies or builders. Has anyone dealt with this before?

Moving Funds Out of SGOV in Fidelity CMA + Best ETF or Mutual Fund for a Taxable Account?

Hi,

I currently have both a Fidelity CMA account and a taxable brokerage account, and I’m trying to better organize my investments. Most of the cash in my CMA is currently invested in SGOV, but I realized I probably have a larger emergency fund than necessary and would like to move part of it into investments with potentially higher returns.

A couple questions:
What’s the proper way to move money from SGOV into another investment such as an ETF or mutual fund?
Would I first need to sell the SGOV shares in my CMA and then transfer the cash to my brokerage account to purchase the new investment? If I sell SGOV, are there any tax implications I should be aware of?

For a taxable brokerage account, is it generally better to invest in ETFs or mutual funds?

I’ve read that ETFs tend to be more tax-efficient, but I’d like to understand whether that’s usually the better choice for long-term investing.

Which ETFs or mutual funds would you recommend for money that I may need in at least 1 year, but possibly longer?
I’m looking for something with better growth potential than SGOV, while still being reasonably safe in case I need the money sooner than expected.

Thanks in advance for any advice.

EDIT:
thanks to all, I will not touch them for now until I known I do not need them for the next 5 years.

2026 Tesla Model Y Premium RWD or used 2023 BMW iX?

Trying to decide between a brand new 2026 Tesla Model Y RWD and a used 2023 BMW iX.

The Tesla seems safer financially since it’s brand new with full warranty and probably lower maintenance risk. The iX looks way more luxurious and comfortable, but I’m worried about potential BMW repair/maintenance costs once warranty coverage becomes a question.

Also curious about insurance costs between the two since I’ve heard both can be expensive for different reasons.

Which would you choose and why?

If your goal is a used 2026 BMW iX3 in ~3 years, what EV would you drive meanwhile?

Hi,

If your goal is a used 2026 BMW iX3 in ~3 years, what EV would you drive meanwhile?

I really want a 2026 BMW iX3, but I’m thinking it might make more financial sense to wait around 3 years and buy one after the initial depreciation hits.
Problem is, I still need an EV right now.

If your end goal was to eventually own an iX3 long term, what would you buy/lease today as the “temporary” EV for the next 3 years?

Would you:
Lease something cheap?
Buy a used EV and resell later?
Go with a Tesla Model Y, Hyundai/Kia EV, BMW lease, etc.?

Main priorities are minimizing depreciation loss over those 3 years while still having a solid daily EV experience.

Thank you
