tongue piercing woes

i love my tongue piercing. it's my favorite piercing i've gotten and i've had a LOT. unfortunately i seem to have bad luck. i've had it done twice (technically 3 times) and i just can't seem to get it done with the right angle and placement, and now it has a bump. i'll try to explain:

on july 3rd, i had it pierced for the first time. it was crooked and not centered so i removed it on july 18th. it was 14g this time.

i had it re-pierced on september 4th at a different studio and she technically pierced it twice. the first time was still not centered so she removed it and we re-did it right away and i was happy with it. lots of blood and it hurt like a bitch but i was so glad that it was finally right. it was 12g this time.

in the last couple days, i noticed this bump forming in front of the hole and two days ago, when i was touching the bump to see what it felt like (it's kinda hard and a bit tender but not really painful) some juice came out???? like yellowish fluid. i rinsed my mouth really well with diluted hydrogen peroxide.

today i noticed the bump is still there and may or may not have grown a bit? and the more i look at the placement, i swear it's still not centered. i'm just so over it. i love this piercing so i think i can live with the placement but i'm not sure how to troubleshoot the bump. it hasn't leaked any other fluid and doesn't really hurt. is this scar tissue? or a pocket of fluid? what can or should i do?

can anyone else relate to my struggle. i love this piercing but two different piercers and 3 attempts still can't seem to find the center of my tongue and now this bump... i'm so sad... plz help, any advice or input appreciated

Cat with healed broken femur

A TNR'd cat (male, 1-3 years old) showed up at my house a few months ago. I have been feeding him outside and he is very vocal and friendly. He has a limp - he doesn't put weight on his rear paw and he clicks when he walks. He still sprints around and jumps up onto lower surfaces. Last week he started coming inside my house. I took him to a vet to get vaccinated and they also took x-rays. The vet said his femur is broken and healed and I could look into an orthopedic vet or give him pain medicine. What should I do? He doesn't "seem" to be in pain. If I take him to the orthopedic vet what could they do for him? USA, I can afford vet care.

tw: self harm – kaylee's autopsy findings?

did anyone else notice this part of the autopsy report for kaylee? i'm not sure, but i thought this sounded like she had some self harm scars. ☹️ i could be way off though, and apologies if this has already been discussed. idk why, but this just made me really sad and i thought i'd share and see what y'all think.

silly question but... do y'all wear sunscreen when you don't go outside?

okay don't laugh at me but i finally had some time off this week and today was the first day in months that i didn’t leave the house at all. normally i put my sunscreen on in the morning before heading out, but today i skipped it because i didn't have plans and stayed inside all day. is this normal? do you guys only wear sunscreen when you plan on going outside? my brother told me that the sun comes in the windows (no way! really!?) so i thought i'd see what other people do. tyia!

is this rejecting?

info: 8 month old tragus, implant titanium, 16g flatback labret, LITHA

i took all my jewelry out for a deep clean today and i noticed my left tragus is looking a little weird when i was putting my jewelry back in. does it look like it's rejecting?

the redness might be from me using pliers to pinch the bar so i could remove the top, so i could be overthinking it. it's healed well and hasn't had any issues at all, and i remember when i first got it done i thought it was a bit shallow compared to my right side but it didn't really bother me.

i was 🀏🏻 this close to just leaving the jewelry out and giving up because i started panicking, but i thought i'd leave it and monitor for now. i have my tragus labrets super snug so they can't move and so i can wear my airpods, so when i have to remove the top, it does take some effort with the pliers and i'm hoping that's what made the red line?

let me know what y'all think

what do i have here?

apologies if this type of post is not allowed! i've had this quilt in my closet for a couple years and stumbled across it again while cleaning and i was wondering if the experts could give me some information on it.

it doesn't have a name label or any tag indicating the creator, but it definitely looks handmade. i photographed it on a queen size bed, and it measures 78" x 98.5". there are two small stains, but otherwise it's in great condition (imo).

i had a few questions:

- is there a name for this pattern?

- what would the approximate value ($ USD) be?

- is there anything that can be done for the stains (safely) at home, or do i need to take it to a professional?

- is there any way to tell how old it is?

thanks in advance! 🫢🏻

should i take this out? πŸ˜“

i got my tongue pierced on july 3rd and i LOVE it, but now that it's healed i'm thinking the angle and placement aren't the best πŸ’”πŸ˜“ i'm sad because i really like it but i wonder if i should take it out and get it redone... please let me know what y'all think. today marks 2 full weeks since i got it and i've downsized the jewelry. implant grade titanium, 14g, mouthwash after every meal and non-water drink and brushing teeth 2x daily.

block party

just sharing because i thought this gathering of freaky bois was very cool but i am curious if anyone can tell me what some of these guys are! i'm not specifically asking for identification but if someone more knowledgeable knows what these buzzy bois are in particular (the wasps or hornets) and the shiny bois (the flies) that would be cool. also are those termites? i'm going to post the tree in the comments. i have no idea what type of tree it is. the two species of hornets were sorta being territorial at times; it was interesting to watch. the yellow ones were chasing the black/white ones away and vice versa. but they were coexisting too, they'd just bicker a bit. (also what's going on with the holes in the soil?!) anyway, thought this was worth a post. everyone is so pretty... πŸͺ°πŸπŸͺ³πŸœ

edit: can't believe i forgot my location lol. northeastern tennessee, united states. video is from today!

is this a good fit for my tongue bar?

just downsized my tongue bar after struggling to eat with a javelin in my mouth lol. healing really well, no issues changing it. i'm just checking to make sure the bar isn't too short.

i can definitely feel the difference because the top ball isn't touching the top of my mouth at rest, which i assume is probably a good thing. it looks more "nested" in my tongue but i think there's still some wiggle room.

it feels very comfortable, but can someone please chime in and let me know if this looks like a good fit or does the bar need to be slightly longer?

how are we looking? 3-day-old tongue piercing! implant titanium, 14g, mouthwash after meals / drinks & brushing teeth 2x daily

got my tongue pierced on friday and i LOVE it! easily one of the most painless piercings i've gotten. my tongue has been slightly sore and swollen but really not bad at all. just wondering how it looks so far. i've been diligent about mouthwash and keeping it clean. i don't think the bar is too short but it is leaving a crater lol. i think it's because when my mouth is closed, the bar gets pushed down. is this normal? and is it normal for your tongue to be kinda "white"? also!!! i feel like i'm salivating so much lol. does that go away? anyway, how does it look so far?

what can i use for these lines on my neck?

i've noticed these horizontal wrinkles / lines on my neck and i'm wondering if anyone has product recommendations for what could help improve the appearance or prevent this from worsening. i'm 26F and i wear moisturizer & sunscreen every day and retinol at night on my face / neck. i can provide more specifics if needed!

placement check + downsizing question

got my tongue pierced yesterday after wanting it for ages! it barely hurt at all and this morning it's only a little sore / swollen.

i just wanted to check opinions on placement! i'm really happy with the placement tbh. i asked my piercer to go as far back as possible and it's angled but i think it's only noticeable because of the extra long bar. i really like it but wanted to see if anyone else had thoughts on the placement! how does it look to y'all?

also!! i'm wondering how soon can i downsize this bad boy? obviously i'm still in the early stages but i generally don't swell up very much with new piercings and this bar is going to drive me crazy lol. i had my medusa briefly before i decided i didn't like it and i genuinely had little to no swelling, even though i've seen some people whose lips balloon up like duck lips. like even after a couple days there was barely any noticeable swelling lol. and this morning my tongue feels a tiny bit swollen but only a bit.

i'm wondering if the worst is yet to come, but if it's still not swollen in a week, can i downsize then? honestly the only difficult part about eating is the long bar that i'm trying to avoid biting lol. i'll wait as long as necessary but just wondering if anyone else has had a similar experience and when y'all downsized yours! tyia 🫢🏻

tonge piercing πŸŽ‰

just wanted to share a major W with y'all. i finally got my tongue pierced today and i'm not kidding, it did not hurt lol. like it didn't even feel like a pinch, just a pressure sensation and lil pop as the needle came out. no stinging or anything. it still doesn't hurt. can't believe i was worried about getting it, but you don't know until you do it i guess. and i'm sure everyone is different! anyways i'm so stoked

edit: lmaooo i didn't notice the typo in the title, my bad πŸ’€

i'm tired y'all... WARNING: extremely graphic / disturbing

if you viewed the media, i'm sorry but you were warned. i'm so done with kitten season y'all.

i work at an animal shelter. today these people called saying they found this one-day-old kitten abandoned outside but they can't afford to take it to a vet. the bluish fluid around the maggots is the euthasol leaking out of the hole in its abdomen. i'm so damn tired.

i wasn't sure which flair to use - "gore warning," "burn out warning," or "gross" but i feel like this is all of the above.

when i tell people i work at an animal shelter they think i spend all day getting paid to play with puppies and kittens...

so incredibly burnt out

i'm honestly too tired to even write very much but i'm an assistant manager at a no-kill humane society in a rural area, southeastern united states. it's mid kitten season and i'm so incredibly burnt out right now. i'm 26 and i can tell that upper management wants me to take over when the current shelter manager retires, but honestly, i don't know if i can do this for a whole career. upper management got into this field later in life; they had other careers before getting into shelter work.

right now my well has run dry. between trying to deal with staff, sick animals, emergency intakes / euths, approving (and denying) adoptions, i am so, so, so, tired... i worked 10 hours today with no lunch break and brought work home with me to finish before tomorrow. a customer came in with donations and broke down telling me about how their dog died and i was just pretending to feel sorry for her and waiting for her to finish talking, which makes me feel like a horrible person. i have no empathy left for people or animals right now and i am... so... tired...

i used to love my job. i remember i used to love it and was excited to be promoted. right now though, i feel trapped...

should i go to school?

hello all! i'm looking for some advice. i'm wondering if i should go to school to become a vet tech.

my situation: i'm 26 and graduated college with an english degree. when i was in college, i started working part-time at the humane society animal shelter as a kennel tech / cleaner. i was 20 when i started. i've continued working at the shelter since then, and over the years i've moved up. now i'm in management at our facility and i have gained a lot of skills and on-the-job experience. i decided this is what i want to do and i'm not using my english degree.

i have learned everything i know about veterinary science through my position at the shelter. i don't have any actual education or qualifications, except i am a certified animal euthanasia technician (caet) and have my license to perform humane euthanasia. i completed a short training course with the state to achieve this.

i have been wondering recently if i should get some qualifications or go to school to become an actual vet tech. i think i want to stay in my current job, but i realized that if i ever wanted to move or find work in this field elsewhere, i don't have the credentials to support my abilities. to provide some context, i'll elaborate on some of the technical things i do in my current job:

- perform humane euthanasia

- draw blood and perfom hw / felv tests

- draw up and give vaccinations (all except rabies)

- microchip cats & dogs

- read fecals and prescribe dewormer

- prescribe meds for basic things like ear mites, URI, etc

- calculate dosage for different meds ^

- give subcutaneous fluids

- assist in exams with a veterinarian present

- assist in basic spay / neuter surgery

- lots of basic things like nail trims, cleaning ears, etc

i also manage intake of new animals, approve adoption applications, manage staff and overall upkeep of the facility, and much more lol. but i'm mostly focused on the technical skills for the purpose of this post. i have briefly discussed this with my family, and they said it would be a waste of time and money. but i'm just thinking about my future and even though i think i'll stay in my current job, who knows what the future holds? and i wonder if i could find similar work without having actual credentials.

i make more money than vet techs in my area. my family argued that it wouldn't increase my pay, so why bother? but again, i feel like i have so much hands-on experience but no real education to back it up. and i work my ass off (excuse my language lol) so going to school while working my current job might be tricky. i have a 4-day work week right now, but i often pull 10 to 11 hour days and i do end up working at home sometimes too. i'm wondering if anyone could provide their opinion or some insight into this. any and all thoughts are welcome. thanks in advance!
