Thinking of starting a small local old horror movie cable tv channel that airs horror movies at night and a horror themed 80's style weather channel in the day in Halmstad city south Sweden

So I am a big fan of old horror movies like the child's play and chucky movies and Friday the 13th or Halloween but also really old horror movies like Nosferatu and the oldest known Frankenstein movie adaptation from the early 1900's but I am also interested in airing indie horror movies as well from small talented creators with permission of course.

I live outside Halmstad in southern Sweden and I would like to make a late night television channel that airs only horror movies at night from 12:00 to 4:00 and becomes a horror themed 80's style weather channel during the day with vintage music and Amiga style graphics from a real Amiga 1000 with movies being broadcasted from a VCR.

I have done some research into what is needed for it and one of them is the needed broadcasting rights for whatever movie I will be showing during the night and the channel won't be operating 24/7 and only during Fridays and Saturdays when people are most likely to watch it.

At the moment I don't have the funds to do it but later on I want to do it once I have the funds and time to set everything up and find or found a group that is willing to become a broadcast organisation that can apply for permission to broadcast these movies it would be quite fun.

My childhood modded original xbox running xbmc emustation with hundreds of pirated retro games both 8 bit 16 bit and 64 bit games

So this is my childhood original modded Xbox that came preinstalled with xbmc emustation and tons of pirated retro games that my dad bought for me 10+ years ago and it still works but I am missing the controller for it.

It has nes games SNES games Sega megadrive games 32x and Sega mega CD support including audio CDs and mega CD disks including pirated ones and I used to play many pirated retro games on it on the huge Sony Trinitron CRT he owned for many years.

Not having to pay the exorbitant prices for all of these games in the first place is the biggest reason why I love emulating and pirating old games and I have done so for many years especially arcade games which are becoming rarer every day especially less popular titles like Rainbow islands and Bubble memories arcade version that deserve more attention but I am also a frequent pirate of movies TV shows anime and manga especially one piece anime and one piece manga.

I also recently bought a new power adapter for it and an rgb scart cable for improved audio and video now all I need is a new controller and a replacement remote control for my Panasonic CRT.

Thinking of installing gentoo Linux 32bit version on an acer travelmate 290

So this is my recently purchased Acer travelmate 290 from 2003 and I am thinking of using it with Gentoo Linux for a few tasks and the stats for this laptop are a maximum of 2 gigs of ram and an Intel pentium M processor with Intel centrino built in graphics .

Once I have replaced the hard drive with an ide ssd and a new battery and charger my plan is to burn a 32 bit gentoo iso onto a CD and use that to boot into the gentoo live CD .

Once the main install is complete I want to use a window manager that I customise myself to have it use as little resources as possible while still being able to be used for things like emulating arcade games onto my Panasonic CRT with a VGA to rgb scart adapter so I can play Rainbow islands my favourite arcade game from 1987 in 15 khz in native resolution.

My recently purchased Acer travelmate 290 from 2003 which is 2 years younger than me

So I recently purchased this ancient laptop from 2003 an Acer travelmate 290 with a gig of ram and an Intel pentium M and no dedicated graphics and the laptop had a faulty battery and came with no charger so I will have to order new ones later and maybe upgrading the ram to it's maximum of 2 gigs and getting a new ide ssd drive.

I plan to play old games from the 2000's and 90's like Diablo 1 and 2 StarCraft 1 and the first 3 Warcraft games and I will also play world of Warcraft on Windows XP through private servers that support XP clients .

Later I am also going to install Gentoo Linux on it as a dual boot option with XP and this is what I am going to use for modern day tasks like surfing the web and social media .

I am also going to try using dial up on it through NetZero if I can get that working.

3 years ago I filmed with my phone the moment several bluetit chicks left my nest box on my apartment balcony for the first time to join the parents outside in the trees

3 years ago I had 2 Bluetits start building a nest in my nest box that I had built in elementary school many years prior in woodworking class. And they were constantly flying in and out with nest material for several months starting in from late winter to late spring .And in early summer the first chicks were born and I could see from my apartment windows that she was constantly feeding the chicks diligently and the pair would take turns feeding the chicks .

And only a few weeks later the chicks flew out and I managed to capture live on my phone camera the moment the chicks flew out of the nest to join the parents outside in the tall trees outside my balcony.

What are your thoughts on the acer travelmate 290 from 2003 that I just bought and I will be getting in a few days?

So I just bought an ancient laptop from eBay from 2003 called the Acer travelmate 290 primarily to play old games like Warcraft 3 , Diablo 2 ,Diablo ,Doom ,DOS games or Rayman 2 which is my favourite Rayman game that I played on Windows XP as a kid and of course Roller coaster tycoon 2 that I played in elementary school. There are a few obvious issues like the screen having problems and the battery needing to be replaced but otherwise it should be doable and I got the laptop for 400 SEK as I could not afford anything over that price range and it has a German keyboard but I can easily swap the ü key for a Swedish Å key otherwise it's very similar to the Swedish keyboard layout. What are some ssd upgrades for it?

I finally purchased on ebay one of the best platformers on the sega genesis/mega drive Rocket knight adventures

I am getting myself a Sega megadrive in late august that will be region unlocked and my second game that I will get for it besides Sonic 2 is Rocket knight adventures for the sega genesis which is one of the best Konami games on the system by a long while and the sequel is also very good. It will arrive on around the same time when I will be be getting my console and first game so I won't be stuck with just Sonic the hedgehog 2

Thinking of buying a mega CD later preferably a model 2 after I get my Sega mega drive

So I have been interested in eventually getting myself a Sega mega CD primarily for the games like Ecco Sonic CD Final fight and Batman returns but also for it's ability to listen to audio CDs from the TV speakers which might not seem that interesting nowadays but the thing is that back in the day this was unheard of and I distinctly remember booting up a Sega mega drive and mega CD emulator on my original Xbox as a kid in the early 2010's and playing some of my parents old CDs from the 90's on it and it was magical.

Not to mention that being able to own your music on disk is way more important than ever in the age of streaming where music that would otherwise be lost forever is preserved for a long time and this also applies to gaming especially because recently Microsoft and Sony decided they don't want you to own your games anymore by discontinuing physical disks entirely.

In my home town Halmstad there is also a store that sells CDs and vinyl records but also retro games called Backlist games and records and I even found a broken Sega game gear there once with dead capacitors that I didn't buy because I am not good with soldering due to poor motor skills.

I am getting into Sega Genesis/Mega drive collecting at age 25

So I have been recently looking at all kinds of videos on games that I would want to have after I have gotten a region free Sega mega drive and an rgb scart cable so I can play all the Japanese and american titles released for it on a real CRT . I am 25 years old and from Sweden where the mega drive was very popular like in the rest of Europe unfortunately it was before I was born. But luckily I experienced the greatness of the console through a modded original Xbox with tons of built in games on a huge Sony Trinitron as a child and it was incredible being able to play all kinds of Sega mega drive games on it and it even had the Sega CD functions of being able to play Sega mega CD games from real discs and play music from CDs .

As an adult with enough money to buy myself a CRT and a Sega Mega drive and real cartridges I am glad to say I know where to get cartridges consoles and a CRT from at a retro game store in South Sweden called TV spels hörnan or The video game corner.

So yesterday my Panasonic TX-21S3TC CRT from the late 90's shut down on it's own and now when I power it on the image is blank

So a few years ago I bought this Panasonic CRT at a retro games shop called TV spels hörnan or the video game corner in southern Sweden in a small town called Smålandsstenar.

It worked until yesterday when suddenly it just shut down on it's own and since then the red power light is on but there is no image at all and I had to call my local TV repair company and they wanted 1500 SEK just to come and look at it and an additional 600 SEK to troubleshoot it which is a cost I just can't afford without saving up money for several months on end.

I am not an electrician and I am terrified to even work on it because I know how dangerous old CRTs can be because they can and will deliver fatal electric shocks even when not plugged in unless they are discharged.

I don't have a soldering iron or the tools needed to do repairs on a CRT whatever they are.

I do know about some of the parts in a CRT like the flyback transformer from watching the 8 bit guys repair video on the IBM PC JR.

Should I even attempt to take it apart to try and fix it myself?

The image is from when the TV was still working.

Have you ever been to the oldest retro video game shop in Sweden called tv spels hörnan?

There is a physical video game shop in the southern parts of Sweden in a town called Smålandsstenar called TV spels hörnan or the video game corner in english and they are run by a young guy with his dog and it has been active since the the early 90's and he is really nice and knowledgeable about all kinds of video games and facts about games and video game consoles and I am thinking of buying my first Sega megadrive and a few Sega megadrive games from there and he even offered to order a rgb cable for my crt television if I call him a week in advance before I travel to smålandsstenar so that way he has the cable in stock in time for when I arrive after I have saved up enough money to buy both the console and games.

Good physical game stores are increasingly rare in this digital age we live in so finding such a good one close to where I live is a real blessing and not having to go online is so much better because you can actually see the consoles and even try the games in store to see if they work.

A game idea I have based on sinistar a brutally hard arcade game from 1983

So I have once or twice played sinistar on mame and it is one of the scariest and hardest arcade games from that time mainly because the main antagonist sinistar a flying robotic head is not just huge he is also very fast and can kill you just as fast and he has a very loud scary voice.

Basically the premise behind sinistar is that you are a space ship and you have to mine crystals called sinicrystals from asteroids by breaking apart the asteroids to make sinibombs that have to be used to kill sinistar once he appears which only takes mere minutes and he makes himself known with lines such as "I am sinistar" and "run run run" besides that there are also small ships that try to kill you while you mine the crystals from your ship.

My take on this game which I have wanted to make in pygame as I do know basic python syntax is that I want to introduce RPG like elements like gaining levels and being able to use upgrades like shields which is a feature that comes from the game asteroids and additional weapons that make it so that you can take additional hits but only a maximum of 4 hits and faster mining of the crystals and make killing the other ships take less time as they are significantly buffed compared to the original game with more hp and deadlier weapons but at the same time the game gets harder each level and I still want it to be just as hard as the original game if not even harder as I really enjoy brutally hard games like Rainbow islands.

If I do end up making it I want to release it on ich.io for anybody to play

When does the soda stream fountain become available in Sweden?

So I noticed that in the USA there is a new sodastream machine called the fountain with special flavour bottles and it looks so cool and I really want one although I recently bought a sodastream Gaia for 400 SEK or 40 USD and I am sad that it's not available in Swedish stores neither online or physical stores which is what I prefer anyways because I can actually see and touch the models on display and get a feeling on which one to buy.

Apparently though it doesn't have built in cooling so cooling the reservoir in the fridge overnight is a must to get cold drinks or by adding lots of ice to the reservoir.

It's also a very expensive machine at a cost of around 200 USD which is significantly more than my Gaia .

What is this model like for those of you that have one and is it really worth the money?

What are some similar machines that are available on the European market that won't require importing it from the US?

Got myself a gameboy advance SP today for 70 bucks at a local thrift store

So this is my first gameboy advance SP that I got at a thrift store today for 70 bucks and I traded it for my tamagotchi umino which is known as the hardest tamagotchi ever released.

I don't have any games right now and I will have to wait until I can buy any games as my bank account is completely empty at the moment.

What games do you recommend that I buy besides Pokemon gen 3? which I have already played and beaten several times on an emulator.
