For anyone serious about getting faster in GT7

Hey guys,

I very rarely recommend products, services or people because I first need to be absolutely convinced myself. I need enough personal experience that I can genuinely explain the “before” and “after” before telling someone it’s worth doing.

For quite a while now I’ve been watching Digit’s replay streams on Mondays and Tuesdays. They’ve been incredibly useful—not just for qualifying pace, but especially for racecraft. Watching how he positions the car, defends, attacks, manages traffic and thinks through races taught me a lot.

What surprised me even more were some of the small driving details. For example, I couldn’t understand why I was consistently slower through certain hairpins. Then I noticed that Digit was rotating the wheel much more than I was. That one observation alone made me rethink how I approached several corners, and there were many moments like that.
The main reason I’m writing this post, though, is Luke Elliott. He’s a coach associated with Digit and has a YouTube channel with a Members-only section. For me, it has been worth every penny (https://youtube.com/@luke\_elliott-dg?si=UmCbGxSDl4atBwkE).

He creates “Track Walk” videos that are usually around an hour long, and the depth of knowledge is honestly insane. Sometimes I genuinely wonder why he’s willing to share so much because he explains virtually everything—how to approach every corner, why a certain line is faster, what mistakes people typically make, how to anticipate them, and how to fix them. It’s not just “brake here and turn there”; he explains the theory behind it, so you actually understand what’s happening and can apply it to every track.

Personally, I haven’t found anything else in the GT7 community that comes close to this level of quality.
So if you’re serious about improving—whether you’re trying to get to A+, or you’re already in A+ and want to keep getting faster—this would genuinely be my recommendation.

Just my personal experience. Hopefully it helps someone who’s looking for the right place to learn.

Fanatec Podium Pedals – a reflection of what Fanatec is

I think the Podium pedals launch perfectly reflects what Fanatec has become.

At the end of last year, Fanatec announced two Podium pedal sets: Formula and GT, both expected in Q1 2026. I was excited, even though I was already considering SimNet pedals. Knowing Fanatec’s track record, I thought I’d probably be waiting forever, so I bought the SimNets instead—and honestly, they’ve been fantastic.

At the end of Q1, Fanatec announced a delay due to issues with the carbon parts for the Formula pedals, but said the GT version would be launching soon.
Then came another update: the GT pedals were delayed again because of a clutch issue. Instead, Fanatec announced they would release only the Formula version on June 25, together with a limited number of GT pedal plates.

So yesterday I decided to buy them.

At 7:00 p.m. CEST, the pedals finally appeared on the website. I tried checking out, but both of my credit cards kept failing for some reason. Maybe it was the GTPlanet voucher, maybe something else. I never found out.

By 7:07 p.m., they were sold out.

Honestly, the entire experience has been a disaster—from the repeated delays to the confusing communication and then the launch itself.
I could probably dismiss this as one bad launch if it weren’t for my recent Formula V3 wheel experience.
I ordered the Formula V3 at launch. It arrived with a defect, so I sent it back. Fanatec told me they couldn’t replace it and that I needed to place a new order. I did, waited a month for it to ship, and nothing happened.

When I contacted support, they told me they had discovered a production issue and the wheel wouldn’t be back in stock until September.

At this point, it no longer feels like bad luck. It just feels like this is how Fanatec operates.

Ironically, I think this kind of experience will send more people to companies like SimNet than it will attract to Fanatec.

If you’re on PlayStation, you’re still fairly limited, so Fanatec remains an option. But if you’re on PC, I’m genuinely curious: what is the compelling reason to choose Fanatec over the growing number of competitors?

Fanatec + PlayStation users: These are the best button caps I’ve found

Hey guys,
I very rarely recommend products online. Usually only when I find something that is genuinely done exceptionally well.
I use a couple of Fanatec wheels on PlayStation, and one thing that always bothered me was the lack of proper PlayStation button caps directly from Fanatec. I spent quite a bit of time researching alternatives, ordered a few different options, and did some experimenting.
In the end, I was genuinely impressed by the button caps from Miho Racing (https://michoracing.de/products/button-caps).
The quality is excellent, the fit is perfect, and honestly, I prefer them over the original Fanatec button caps. I ended up buying three sets myself. I also shared them with a few other sim racers, and their reaction was very similar — they were surprised by how good they are.
I have pretty high standards when it comes to quality, aesthetics, and overall finish, and these exceeded my expectations.
Not sponsored, not affiliated, just sharing because I remember how much time I spent looking for a good solution myself. If you're a Fanatec user on PlayStation and want proper PS button labels, I can highly recommend them.
Hope this helps someone. 👍

Serious sim racers with Oura Ring — do you notice it while driving?

I’m considering getting an Oura Ring mainly for sleep, recovery, HR, and general health tracking. I’m a fairly serious GT7 sim racer and I’m wondering how comfortable it actually is during longer sessions.

Do you completely stop noticing it after some time, or is it annoying on the wheel? Especially during tense driving or longer races.

Also curious if people with Oura still feel the need to wear something like a Garmin or Apple Watch as well, or if the ring fully replaced it for you.

Would really appreciate feedback specifically from people doing longer or more serious sim racing sessions.

DD+ / Nordschleife Reverse / Right Shoulder Pain — Anyone Experienced This?

Anyone here develop right shoulder pain from sim racing with a powerful direct drive setup?
I’m using:
Fanatec DD+
Podium Endurance wheel
Playseat Trophy cockpit
Last two weeks I’ve been heavily practicing Nordschleife Reverse in GT7 (Circuit Experience + Daily Race), and now I have pretty severe pain/tension in my right shoulder only.
Trying to figure out whether this is:
bad ergonomics / seating position
Playseat Trophy flex or geometry
too much tension while trying to control the car
or something common with DD users on Nordschleife
Did anyone experience something similar? What actually helped fix it?

Gran Turismo 7 constantly freezing/crashing lately

Dear community,
For the last few weeks, and especially this week, I’ve been massively struggling with Gran Turismo 7 freezing and crashing.
Examples:
After a race, when I try to save a replay, the game freezes completely

If I do a lap and want to save it for analysis, it freezes again

I then need to fully close and restart the game

I also see random connection/server-related issues

At this point, I would say it happens almost 50% of the time.
What’s strange is that for an entire year I had basically zero issues. This only started during the last 2–3 weeks.
I was advised to clear the network cache, and now I do it multiple times per day, but honestly it does not seem to solve anything.
Am I alone with this? Is this a known issue lately, and did anyone actually find a proper fix?

Nordschleife Reverse + Direct Drive = Shoulder Pain? Anyone Else Experienced This?

After three straight days of practicing Nordschleife Reverse on a direct drive setup, I started developing noticeable right shoulder pain. I’m curious how common this is among sim racers, especially with higher-torque DD bases and long stints where you constantly stabilize the car through fast sections and compressions.

For those who experienced something similar:
- Was it mostly muscle tension, inflammation, posture, or ergonomics?
- Did reducing FFB help, or was it more about seating position and relaxing grip tension?
- Any specific stretches, recovery routines, massage gun usage, or strengthening work that genuinely helped?

Would appreciate hearing from people who went through this and managed to solve it properly rather than just masking it.

Fanatec DD Extreme Base Creaking / Cracking Noise Only When Turning Right — Normal or Defective?

I noticed something strange with my Fanatec Direct Drive Extreme base and wanted to check if anyone else experienced this or knows what it is.

While driving Nordschleife Reverse in GT7, especially in tighter hairpin-type corners, I noticed a creaking / cracking type sound coming from the base itself — but only when turning right. Turning left is completely silent.

At first I thought it was my new Formula wheel, but I tested with a completely different wheel and the exact same sound is still there. So it’s definitely not wheel-specific.

The sound seems to come from inside the base itself, almost like something under load is creaking or shifting internally when rotating right under force feedback.

I attached two videos with different wheels showing the exact same issue.

https://youtube.com/shorts/sRk8dZMjGhI?feature=shared

https://youtube.com/shorts/sRptHw8fdmg?feature=shared

Has anyone experienced this with the DD Extreme / DD+ platform?
Is this considered normal mechanical noise under torque, or does this sound defective / like something is wrong internally?

Would really appreciate any feedback before I contact support.

Is Fanatec Basically the Only Serious GT7 / PlayStation Ecosystem?

It honestly feels like if someone wants a truly solid sim racing experience on Gran Turismo 7 / PlayStation, then the ecosystem is basically limited to Fanatec.

And don’t get me wrong — the direct drive bases themselves are generally good. But the wheels in many cases feel dated now, the software/firmware experience can be rough, and overall it feels like there’s not much pressure on the PlayStation side to really evolve quickly.

Meanwhile on PC, the market changed massively over the last couple of years:
- Simagic
- Simucube
- Moza
- Asetek
- Cube Controls
- Ascher
etc.

There are so many strong ecosystems and innovations happening there.

So my genuine question is:
Has anyone heard any real rumors, indications, licensing discussions, or future plans about another serious sim racing brand joining PlayStation compatibility properly?

Because honestly, competition would be amazing for GT7 / PS users.

At the moment it really feels like Fanatec has almost no real pressure on the PlayStation side. Curious what people think.

Formula 1 V3 plastic creaking under heavy FFB — normal or defective?

I have the DD Extreme base updated to 18 Nm and the new Formula 1 V3 wheel for 3 days now.

Today on Circuit Experience Nordschleife Reverse in GT7 I started noticing plastic creaking from the wheel itself. Quite annoying once you hear it.

What’s interesting is that my Formula V2.5 is completely silent. No creaking, no plastic noises at all.

Question to owners of previous Formula wheels and now V3:
is this hit and miss, or has this always been a thing with V2, V2.5, and now V3?

DD Extreme / DD+ — Why Does Fanatec Only Work With Original USB Cable After Firmware Update?

Title: DD Extreme / DD+ — Why Does Fanatec Only Work With Original USB Cable After Firmware Update?

Hey guys,

I genuinely want to understand what is happening here technically.

My setup:
- Fanatec DD Extreme
- Formula 2.5
- new Formula V3
- Podium Hub
- PS5

Before the most recent firmware/software update, everything worked absolutely flawlessly.

I was connecting:
PS5 → DD Extreme
using a normal USB-C to USB-C cable that I was also using with my Mac.

Zero issues.

Then after the latest firmware update, everything basically got bricked initially. I had to reinstall firmware multiple times, reconnect devices, etc.

Now here is the strange part:

The wheelbase now works ONLY with the original Fanatec cable.

When I use:
- USB-C → USB-C
it does NOT work.

When I use:
- original Fanatec cable
it DOES work immediately.

So I researched a bit and understood maybe the issue is that I need a “proper data cable,” not just charging cable.

Because of that, I purchased a certified high-end USB4 / Thunderbolt-compatible cable:
- 40 Gb/s
- 240W
- certified data cable
- premium Cable Matters cable

(see attachment)

Connected:
PS5 → DD Extreme
via this cable.

Still does NOT work.

So now I’m genuinely confused.

How is it possible that:
- a certified premium USB4 data cable does not work,
- but the original Fanatec cable works perfectly?

Is Fanatec using some very specific USB implementation?
Does the wheelbase suddenly require something unusual after firmware update?
Is there something special about the original cable itself?

Most importantly:
has anyone actually found a USB-C → USB-C cable that works reliably with DD+ / DD Extreme on PS5 after the latest firmware?

Would really appreciate technical explanations because right now this makes absolutely no sense to me.

DD+ / DD Extreme 18Nm + Formula V3 — What GT7 Settings Are You Running?

Title: DD+ / DD Extreme 18Nm + Formula V3 — What GT7 Settings Are You Running?

Hey guys,

Just wondering if anyone here is running:
- DD+
- DD Extreme (18Nm update)
- and the new Formula V3 wheel

mainly for GT7.

Curious what settings you ended up with after the latest firmware / FullForce updates.

Especially interested in:
- GT7 torque & sensitivity
- FFB strength
- NDP
- NFR
- NIN
- INT
- FEI
- FullForce settings
- anything you adjusted specifically because of the lighter Formula V3 wheel

I recently moved to the Formula V3 and the wheel definitely feels different compared to heavier GT-style rims. More direct, faster rotation, more detail, but I’m still trying to find the sweet spot between:
- precision
- stability
- fatigue
- curb detail
- mid-corner feel

Would really appreciate real-world settings from people actually using this combo in GT7.

Guys, anyone else experiencing issues with GT7 this week? Game keeps freezing, ghost disappears mid-lap, restart and the ghost doesn’t even show up at all. First time in a year this is happening to me. Something wrong with the servers?

reddit.com
u/undead_monkey_pl — 2 months ago

Guys, I genuinely want to understand what is happening technically here because this whole situation became extremely strange after the latest firmware updates.
My setup:
DD Extreme
Formula V2.5
Formula V3
PS5 Pro
Windows laptop only for firmware updates
After the latest firmware update, everything basically broke:
wheels not reacting properly
PS mode behaving strangely
wheel recognized but buttons dead
“No USB connection” appearing randomly
weird mode cycling required to make things work
I spent almost two days reinstalling everything:
Driver 455
Driver 472
latest Fanatec App
full firmware reinstall multiple times
Now here is the interesting part:
It LOOKS like the original Fanatec USB-C to USB-A cable suddenly fixes or stabilizes things.
But before firmware updates, my USB-C to USB-C cable worked completely fine.
Now after the firmware update:
USB-C to USB-C behaves inconsistently
original Fanatec cable works much better
So my genuine question is:
What is actually different about the Fanatec cable?
Is it:
shielding?
USB spec?
polling stability?
power delivery?
signal integrity?
USB controller compatibility?
And more importantly:
is there really no proper USB-C to USB-C alternative that works equally well?
Because many modern laptops (including mine) no longer even have USB-A ports, so USB-C to USB-C is basically required.
I am trying to understand whether:
the firmware became much more sensitive to cable quality,
or whether there is something fundamentally special about the original Fanatec cable itself.
Would really appreciate technical insight from someone who understands this properly.

Hey guys,

I genuinely need help because I have now spent almost two full days dealing with what became a complete firmware/software nightmare after updating my Fanatec gear.

My setup:
DD Extreme wheelbase
Formula V2.5
Formula V3
PS5 only for racing
Windows laptop used ONLY for firmware updates

Important:
Before all of this, everything worked perfectly fine on PS5.

The moment I updated firmware yesterday, my setup basically broke.

Initially:
Wheel not responding
Buttons dead
Firmware behaving strangely
Updater saying things updated but clearly not properly
Wheel detected but not functioning

I spent hours reading GTPlanet, Reddit, Discord, and honestly found MANY people with very similar issues.

Eventually someone from the community helped me through a very specific recovery process:

  1. Completely uninstall EVERYTHING Fanatec-related
  2. Install old Driver 455
  3. Update all firmware
  4. Install Driver 472
  5. Update all firmware again
  6. Install latest Fanatec App
  7. Update everything AGAIN

At that point I finally got all firmware versions showing correctly:

Current versions:
Fanatec App: 1.4.2.3
Wheel Base Firmware: 2.11.0.2
Formula V2 Firmware: 1.0.8.1
Wireless QR Firmware: 1.3.0.1

The weird thing now is this:

Both wheels behave IDENTICALLY:
Formula V2.5
Formula V3

Startup sequence looks completely normal:
Wheel calibrates correctly
DD Extreme light changes red → blue
Blue indicates PS mode
Wheel detected correctly
Tuning/settings button works

BUT:
PlayStation button does NOT work initially
Regular buttons do NOT react
Wheel appears “dead” even though connected

Then I discovered a bizarre workaround.

If I press the wheelbase mode button and fully cycle through all modes/colors:
Blue
Green
Purple
Etc.

Eventually when it comes back to blue, the wheel suddenly shows:
“NO USB CONNECTION”

And THEN suddenly the wheel starts working properly on PS5.

So right now every time I start the setup I basically need to:
Cycle all wheelbase modes manually
Wait for “NO USB CONNECTION”
Return to blue PS mode
Then wheel finally works

This honestly feels like some kind of firmware initialization or USB handshake issue between the DD Extreme and PS5 after the latest firmware.

Has ANYONE seen this before?
Any proper fix?
Any rollback method?
Or is this just broken firmware right now?
