Dear Mariam,

Yes, you are a fictional character imagined by Khaled Hosseini, yet you have become the voice of countless Afghan women whose stories were never written, whose tears were never witnessed, and whose names history quietly forgot. In your silence, they found their own.

From the day the world branded you a harami, you were taught that you were born to carry shame. Rejected by the very people who should have sheltered you, by Nana's bitterness, by Jalil's cowardice, and by a society that measured a woman's worth through the narrowest of lenses, you entered life already burdened by wounds that were never yours to bear.

Then came Rasheed: a widower, a man who mistook fear for authority and cruelty for strength. You endured a marriage emptied of tenderness, the heartbreak of losing every child before you could hold them, the loneliness of being called a failure for what fate had denied you, and the brutality of a home that was never truly one. And when another wife entered that house, you were expected, once again, to surrender your place without a voice.

Yet life had one final kindness reserved for you. In Laila, you found not a rival but a daughter; not competition but companionship. The love you had been denied all your life became the love you chose to give. It was never written in your blood that you would become a mother, but your heart became one nonetheless, to Laila, to Aziza, to Zalmai, and to the hope of a family that would survive because of you.

Your journey carried you from a humble village near Herat to the battered streets of Kabul, and finally to a stadium where, kneeling beneath an unforgiving sky, you drew your last breath. The world may remember that moment as an execution. I remember it as the moment Mariam became free.

You spent much of your life believing you were unwanted and insignificant. But in the end, it was not your birth that defined you, it was your boundless capacity to love, the impossible choices you made, and the courage with which you embraced their consequences. You did not merely save Laila and her family; you reclaimed your own dignity in the process.

Some lives are measured by how long they are lived. Yours is measured by how deeply it continues to live in the hearts of those who turn the final page. You were called a harami by the world, Mariam, but by the millions who now know your story, you will forever be remembered as a woman of extraordinary grace, immeasurable courage, and a thousand splendid suns that could never be extinguished.

Habitual residence proof

Actually i made this document from the ward office while applying to Australia, but unfortunately, my visa was denied. Since I am applying for a German visa, can I use that document? My only concern is the date; it is dated 9 Dec 2025. Do I need to make a new one?

Can I join the waiting list without a valid offer letter?

Hi everyone,

I am still waiting to receive my admission offer letter for the Winter intake, but I'm getting worried about the visa timeline. Since I haven't joined the waiting list yet, I'm skeptical about whether I'll be able to get a visa appointment in time once I receive my admission.

Is it possible to join the waiting list without having a valid offer letter, or is the admission letter mandatory before registering?

I'd appreciate hearing from anyone who has been in a similar situation or knows how this process works.

What is the general process to get into a Master's by research in Australian Universities? Is it similar to hunt assistantships in the US? Do you have to have a research paper?
