All right family, I know we so dearly missed each other this summer. Let’s hear your playback of some awesome replacement festivals that you found so we can run it back together next year.

Also, is Goldberg in prison yet?

They’re going crazy in Western Wyoming. Such a blessing to harvest this bull, especially with my wife in tow.

St. Louis was a damn fine show. Highlights for me included Trinity River, Silver Dagger, Fire and Brimstone and the last encore, Run Horse Run.

Legend.

I remember her being my first real crush in 9 to 5. She and her good vibrations will live forever. She deserves a National holiday. Our politicians better recognize her.

Saw our man Willie and crew this week at his traveling outlaw circus. Such an amazing line up, top to bottom. Dan Was, Sierra Hull, Stephen Wilson Jr. (holy smokes he’s good), Lukas Nelson, the impeccable Avetts and the legend himself, Mickey Raphael. Well, and Willie, sweet ol’ Mr. Nelson is something far beyond a legend.

Go see them. Immediately!

Delicious bounty from last fall, Utah elk loin and Missouri whitetail deer bites

The deer bites are an epic way to use roasts and other less tender cuts. Simple recipe - cut in bite size chucks, wrap in thin bacon then marinate in a 50/50 mixture of Franks Red Hot and Worcestershire sauce. Grill to medium rare (128 degrees). There are never leftovers.

Nothing like jumping in the lake with a 3-weight, a popper and your favorite libation after being on a tractor for 4-hours. Apologies for the man-tots.

I reverse seared tri-tip to 123 degrees on the smoker, cooled off, then seared on the Blackstone at full throttle for ~2 minutes per side. So easy!

I rub lightly with olive oil, then use Santa Maria seasoning, leave it in the fridge for about three hours uncovered to dry brine.

Absolutely mouthwatering good!

Here’s a little tip that helps me, like most know, you have slice tri-tip against the grain, before I put the seasoning on, I will lightly score the edge of the meat with the grain, it holds up well after the cook and sear. As an added benefit, those little grooves really hold the seasoning!

Nolan! Bale was the best ever superhero lead, plus those countless deep actors (looking at you Michael Caine, Morgan Freeman, T. Hardy and Ledger) across 3 tight movies. AND add prime Hathaway in Dark Knight, sit down Avengers & Superman…these are it for me!

How in the heck did Pete ever sleep again without the city noises when they ended up in Wichita?

These folks are an absolute STL treasure. How many local bands in this country can fill an amphitheater? Make sure to catch them if you can!

Pete, oh Pete. You have robbed yourself of so many ro-tel and Tostito memories.

With the extreme heat here in the midwest, giving the trout a reprieve and spent last evening living it up on my 3-acre pond with my 3-weight.

In just a few hours, I landed 15 bluegill between one and 2 pounds These are not hybrid bluegill, but pure northern strain that are supplementally fed protein pellets. The pond record is 2.14 pounds.

Tough to beat!
