Looking for harm reduction advice for taking medication

I was just prescribed a medication that needs to be taken twice a day with food. I absolutely intend to take this medicine correctly and in the safest way possible, but realistically I won’t be able to change my eating habits overnight either. So how much food is normally meant when medicine should be taken with food? Does it have to be solid food or would something like a protein shake work too? How can I make this work?

New friend guessing my weight

I recently met a new person and we’ve been hanging out, all cool until today. Today we were talking about something totally unrelated (the fact that my family bullies me for being short lol) and out of nowhere he said that I must weigh XYZ kilos and he was wrong, but he overestimated my weight by >!11kilos!<. I told him I don’t actually know my weight (which obviously isn’t true), but then he pointed out specific things in my body that were proof to him of that being my weight.

It feels like it was probably just small talk to him, but I feel pretty gross about myself and he honestly just showed me new parts of my body to be unhappy with. Terrible end to the day

Where can I get help for mental health?

Sorry for writing in English, I don't feel totally confident in my Spanish to describe this problem. I can probably answer questions in Spanish though, I'm working on my C1 lol

The situation is that I have been undereating dramatically, which has made me lose 30kgs in less than a year. When it started I weighed 87kgs which means that I had mild obesity, but now my weight is in the healthy range. But the problem is that I can't stop undereating and I want to become underweight. I know that it's a mental health problem, I had problems with my eating when I was younger too.

I've reached a point where I want to get help because I feel physically unwell and am having chest pains more consistently, but I have no idea where to go in Spain. I have been seeing a psychologist privately, but he made it clear that he can't help me with this because my weight is technically normal. I assume the same would be true in the public system. So where can I go to get help before my physical health keeps getting worse? If it helps, I live in Andalucía. Thank you!

I think I want to get help, where do I go? (Spain)

I’ve been trying to lose weight for a bit more than a year now, I don’t want to post numbers but my weight was pretty high when I started which means that I’m still technically in the healthy range. I’m honestly conflicted, I don’t want to stop restricting by any means and I want to keep losing weight, but the thing is that I keep getting more and more obsessed with food as time goes on and it’s started bleeding out to my friendships with me talking about food and stuff all the time. That is something that I really want to stop because I know it’s not something that they want to hear about constantly. My heart has also been acting weird which is a little bit scary. So in that sense I do want to get help.

Anyway, I was already seeing a private therapist for unrelated issues and on Friday in our session I told him that I was restricting, I guess hoping that he would fix it, but he told me that as long as I don’t start binging, it’s still healthy. I don’t think based on that that he’ll be able to help me lol.

So if I actually genuinely want to get help, where do I go? A new private therapist? Public GP? Where is the help to be found?

Thank you in advance!

I just told my therapist

This is a vent but I wanted to put the trigger warning.

Anyway I’ve been seeing a therapist since I had a major health scare last December to cope with that and I also started counting calories since that health scare. I started with the intention of just making sure I was eating enough but literally within a week of starting I went for a weight loss goal and I guess it’s just kept escalating since then. I don’t want to change the behaviors, but I guess I just wanted to tell my therapist and I finally got the courage to do it but his reaction was somehow not what I expected (not that I knew what to expect).

I told him that I was restricting to >!1000!< calories a day (which I know isn’t bad), and he asked if I was also purging and I said no, and then he asked me what exactly in my body I didn’t like. I told him and anyway he said that I’m probably binging (I’m not) and that he thinks I should find a different therapist that’s a woman. I obviously have no problem with a woman being my therapist but I don’t know why I should change now?

Anyway I don’t know, he told me that my behaviors don’t need to change and I already wanted to start restricting more anyway and now I know I have to. It ended up not feeling worth talking about? I wanted to talk through some things because I want to feel better (don’t want to change my behavior but emotionally I mean) but I just kind of feel like it looks attention seeking? It feels bad.

Ice creams that are available in Europe?

I see so many pictures of low calorie ice creams here and I’m jealous. I’m in Spain and I’ve checked every store near me and there’s no Halo Top like I’ve seen online. What brands of low calorie ice cream could I get here?? I want to join the fun!

Losing my safe foods

There’s this supermarket chain that we have in Spain called Mercadona, and it’s usually pretty good but they have this unfortunate way of just not selling their best products after a while anymore. Or changing the recipes.

I just found out (from reddit of all places lol) that apparently my two favorite safe foods are ruined for me. One, a chocolate pudding cup, is just not being sold anymore. The other one is a caramel pudding cup and it has >!2 more calories!< than the original recipe.

Honestly I‘m devastated about this, more than I probably should be. I‘m grieving these pudding cups 😭 How am I even supposed to cope lol

I know I‘m going to end up crying about this in therapy and it’s honestly embarrassing to cry about this but it feels like the end of the world or something.

Is this extreme hunger?

I’ve been restricting for only a few months (had a history of disordered eating as a teenager but this was probably a little bit more extreme) but anyway I had no issues sticking with it before, it actually felt good, I was losing weight.

And now for the last week I have been so hungry and today I ate so much, and I’m not stopping (cooking again right now), and I feel terrible. Mentally obviously but also physically I don’t feel well. I guess I’m not in recovery or anything, my therapist (for separate issues) doesn’t think there’s anything wrong with my eating so it’s not a thing, so I don’t know where this is coming from.

I feel out of control. What’s making my body do this to me??

Lunch on the road, how many calories do you think?

The drink was coke zero, so I already know that.

First picture: salmorejo and bread, and I finished both. The salmorejo plate was relatively shallow
Second picture: lomo adobado (pork loin), salad, and fried egg
Last picture: natillas, apparently homemade

Calories in this meal?

First picture is tropical salad, second is meat with tomato. Sadly I don’t know any ingredients for sure so it’s hard to estimate.

Changing behaviors

This is just a vent because I don’t know who else to talk to lol but I guess tw for I’m going to talk about food.

The thing is that I have had some kind of mysterious health issues since last December and because of the way public healthcare is, it’s taking ages to get to the bottom of it. It’s almost July now and tomorrow I finally have an appointment for a head MRI, and I guess just thinking about that(neurologist made a throwaway comment months ago about the MRI being to look for things like tumors, which, horrifying) has been stressing me out more than I can handle.

So anyway I have always leaned more towards restricting and I guess that’s always felt better to me (not saying it’s actually good though!!) but today it’s like I was spiraling about even the thought of having a tumor in my brain and the only thing I could think to do was that I went to McDonalds and I got >!like those chicken nuggets and the deluxe fries and a drink and extra sauces and when I finished all that I got an ice cream too,!< and now I feel even worse because this stuff never happens to me and I feel physically sick, so obviously that’s not helping with the other stress, and I’m worrying about this happening again now. I literally don’t know what to do.

Calories in this restaurant chicken dish?

I ate everything except maybe a spoonful of rice and four almonds. Chicken breast filled with spinach and nuts, with a honey sauce and almonds, and rice with vegetables. This was from a restaurant so no calorie estimates.

How can I talk to my therapist about my issues?

I've always had issues with disordered eating (never rose to the level of eating disorder), but after the last few months I think I've reached a point where I really need help. I originally started losing weight unintentionally but at this point have to admit that it's intentional now, and it's gotten to a point where I don't feel like I can do anything anymore. Honestly, I need help.

The thing is that I've already been in therapy for a few months for something else, and my therapist is focused on those other things. For weeks now I have intended to bring it up in session, but somehow I never do. I can't even tell you what stops me, maybe because it feels awkward (no numbers but my weight is in the healthy range, even if it's the lowest it's ever been since I stopped growing, so I know I don't look sick enough to need help) or maybe because I feel like I would "fail" at therapy if I distract from the original issues.

Anyway, I honestly feel awful and I want help. How can I tell my therapist about what's going on? How did you do it (if that applies to you)?

Feeling bad after confiding in my friend

I had issues with disordered eating since elementary school, but I honestly thought I was fully recovered for a while but I started having some relatively dramatic health issues that led to significant weight loss and that seems to have triggered something in my head where now I've fully gone back to my old behaviors. I didn't want to acknowledge it for a while but at this point it's obvious enough to me.

Last night I guess something came over me and I told my best friend what was going on, and I honestly feel terrible about it now. I don't know why I said anything, I don't actually want anyone to know what's going on, I don't want to put that kind of stress on anyone.

I'm also honestly scared that now she's going to be watching me somehow and watching my eating or something and that would ruin our friendship I don't know. I genuinely love all of my friends and it would devastate me if I let this stuff ruin our friendships but now it feels like it'll inevitably happen.
