Most optimized cheap phone plan combo I’ve found, any better suggestions?

I’m currently paying $35/month with Rogers for 100GB Canada-only, but I’m pretty dissatisfied with the data speeds. I often get barely a few Mbps and usually just a single bar in Mississauga.

I WFH, so I use less than 5GB/month most months, mainly for Google Maps/navigation when I’m out.

The most optimized combo I’ve found so far is Freedom’s $129/year prepaid plan with 20GB/year, paired with a BNESIM 50GB North America eSIM for $58 with no expiry.

That works out to about $15.58/month overall (assuming I use all 50GB of BNESIM data within a year), compared with $35/month with Rogers.

It gives me a normal Canadian number for calls/texts, some native Canadian data, plus a larger North America data bucket for overflow and US travel.

Has anyone tried a similar setup? Any downsides with speeds, coverage, or using the travel eSIM as the main data connection?

Also open to suggestions if there’s an even better/cheaper combo.

How reliable are Neobanc rent payments, especially on weekends/holidays?

I’ve been using Neobanc for credit card bill payments, and I’ve noticed that they can sometimes be delayed by 2–3 business days.

For anyone using Neobanc for rent payments, how reliable is the scheduled payment date? If I select the 1st of the month, does the landlord receive the payment on the 1st even if it falls on a weekend or public holiday?

For context, I would be e-transferring the funds to Neobanc well in advance, usually around 10 days before the rent is due, so funding delays shouldn’t be an issue.

Mainly trying to understand whether I can rely on Neobanc to make sure rent is received on the selected date, or whether I should schedule it a few days earlier to be safe.

Rogers World Elite CLI with a thin credit file

I opened my Rogers World Elite Mastercard in September 2025, shortly after starting my Canadian credit file in August 2025. My initial credit limit was $1,500, and it is still $1,500 today.

My current scores are 712 with Equifax and 718 with TransUnion. I have no late payments, keep reported utilization below 10%, and spend at least $1,000 on the card each month. I pay before the statement date and generally report a balance below $100.

I call Rogers every month to check for a pre-approved credit limit increase, but I never receive an offer. A requested increase requires a hard inquiry, which I would prefer to avoid.

Has anyone with a similar thin file received a pre-approved CLI? Should I just keep waiting?

P.S.: My highest limit on another card is $8,500 with CIBC.

Is $700 dealer undercoating worth it for a CPO Kia Sorento in Ontario?

I recently bought a 2024 CPO Kia Sorento LX with 46,000 km. It is in pristine condition, and delivery is scheduled for next week, so I need to decide about undercoating before then.

The dealership is trying to sell me an undercoating package for $700, supposedly discounted from the regular price of $1,000. They said Ontario road salt and brine can cause serious corrosion, and since I plan to keep the car for at least five years, it would be worthwhile.

The package includes:

  • Initial undercoating
  • A five-year warranty, which I suspect is mostly BS
  • Free resprays or touch-ups after years 2 and 4

They also claimed that getting the undercoating done by a third-party shop could void the CPO warranty because it could potentially damage electronic components. The CPO warranty runs until 2031 or 140,000 km.

Is $700 reasonable for this package? Should I skip it and get rustproofing done elsewhere, or try negotiating it down to around $500? All numbers are CAD.

Approval chances for Scotiabank Momentum Visa Infinite with thin credit file?

Hi everyone,

I’m planning to apply for the Scotiabank Momentum Visa Infinite and wanted to get some thoughts on my approval chances.

My main purpose for the card would be to use it with Chexy for recurring payments.

A bit about my profile:

  • New to Canada with a relatively thin credit file, around 11 months
  • Equifax score: 712
  • TransUnion score: 742
  • No missed payments
  • Highest current credit limit: $8.5k with CIBC
  • Annual income: $150k+
  • Previously applied online in February and was rejected (that is the latest hard inquiry on my credit report)

This time, I’m planning to apply in branch so I can show paystubs and provide proof of income. This approach worked for me with CIBC when I was a newcomer to Canada and had only one month of credit history. They approved me for a $5k credit limit based on my paystubs.

Has anyone been approved for this card with a similar credit history? Do you think applying in branch with income proof would improve my chances, or is the thin credit file and recent rejection still likely to be an issue?

Buying a Mitsubishi Outlander in Ontario with 0% financing, what should I negotiate for?

Buying a new Mitsubishi Outlander in Ontario, going with the 0% financing offer. Before I finalize, what should I be pushing the dealer for?

I've heard of people getting things like winter mats, window shades, several years of free oil changes, and winter tire discounts thrown in. Curious what's realistic to ask for, and if there's anything I should watch out for with the 0% financing (fees, price flexibility, etc).

Appreciate any advice from people who've bought recently in Ontario.

Need Help: Amount Statements for Visa Applications

Has anyone been able to get a custom date-range account statement from Wealthsimple for visa application purposes?

Support initially sent me an activity export (same as in the app), which doesn’t include a running balance. I then requested a statement with a running balance, and was told the Trade team could help, but they later confirmed they can’t provide this for a chequing account.

How is a visa officer expected to assess financial standing without a statement showing a running balance? Has anyone found a workaround or had success getting an acceptable document?

Feedback: Show credit limit before hard inquiry

Why doesn’t Wealthsimple show a credit limit before doing a hard inquiry?

I get that they probably need to run a credit check to finalize things, but it feels a bit backwards. Neobanc shows a credit limit before a hard pull, so you can decide if it’s even worth proceeding. Right now it feels like a bit of a gamble.

Super Visa for both parents, recently landed immigrants, family of 5, please sanity-check my profile (income + ties)

We landed as PRs in August 2025 and want to bring both of my parents on a Super Visa. Sharing the full profile because I keep going back and forth on two things: whether our income holds up (we only have a partial first Canadian tax year), and whether the ties are strong enough. Would really appreciate feedback from anyone who has done this recently.

Setup

These are my parents, so I am the host. My own income for the tax year is basically zero, so my spouse is the co-signer and is the one carrying the income.

Family size: 5 (me + spouse + 1 young child + 2 parents we are sponsoring for super visa).

Income / financials (host + co-signer)

  • Spouse 2025 NOA, Line 15000: $65,792. This is the figure that clears the size-5 LICO.
  • Spouse salary: $180k. Will submit an employment letter stating this, pay stubs from Aug 2025 to the month we file, and bank statements showing every pay deposit.
  • 2026 YTD so far: ~$82k, projected ~$100k by the time we file (in August).
  • My 2025 NOA: $220.
  • We landed Aug 2025, so 2025 is only a partial Canadian tax year. In 2024 we were overseas, so there is no Canadian NOA for 2024. Our 2024 income is $150k, but since that's pre-arrival, there is no NOA, but I've CRA's CCB assessment noting that 2024 income as the basis for CCB payments (does that matter and should I attach that?).

Assets (to prove the financial stability of hosts)

  • Spouse: ~$20k chequing, ~$15k TFSA, ~$90k in a non-registered brokerage.
  • Me: ~$15k TFSA, ~$9k in a non-registered brokerage.

Parents' profile + ties (to show they will leave Canada)

  • Pakistani citizens, but they have lived in Turkey since 2021 on a residence permit that renews every year.
  • Two of my brothers and their kids (my parents' grandchildren) live in Turkey. One sister lives in Germany. No immediate family is left in Pakistan.
  • Parents own one property in Pakistan. They do not personally own property or hold a bank account in Turkey, though my brother owns a property in Turkey.
  • Travel history: Pakistan, Turkey, UAE, KSA. Never overstayed anywhere.
  • I plan to show that they will return to Turkey to be with my brothers and grandchildren (their primary residence for the last 4 years), where their day-to-day household and life already are.

What I am unsure about

  1. The 2025 NOA clears LICO but only by about $1.5k, and it is a partial year. Does that matter or as long as I'm above LICO, I should be good on that part?
  2. Are the ties convincing given that the parents' Turkish status is temporary (annual renewal), they own nothing in Turkey themselves, and nobody is left in Pakistan even though they own property there?
  3. Anyone with a similar "just landed, thin first-year NOA, income sitting on the co-signer spouse" profile, approved or refused?
  4. Anything obvious I am missing in the document list (besides insurance, which I know is mandatory and will get one)?

Thanks in advance.

CC Grocery category in Walmart spending

Got the notification from snaplii app that Walmart gift card purchase transactions now has MCC Grocery. Pretty good to make Walmart gift card purchases count as groceries. And you get 3% cashback in snaplii on top of that.

Scuba diving day trips from GTA Canada? Open water certified, ~8 dives, looking to get back in the water

Hey, looking for some local diving advice. I'm open water certified but pretty inexperienced, maybe 8 dives total. Last one was in Koh Phi Phi, Thailand back in December, which was amazing and kind of made me want to keep it going here.

Thing is, I moved to Canada just last year so I genuinely have no idea what's around. Don't know the spots, don't know the operators, nothing. Starting from zero here.

Also worth mentioning, I don't own any gear at all so whatever I do, I'd need full rentals.

Time-wise, it has to be a day trip. Family situation means I can't do overnights right now.

A few questions if anyone has the time:

- I know Tobermory is the usual answer but I'm not super drawn to wreck diving. Is there anything with actual marine life within a reasonable distance, or is that just not realistic in Ontario?
- Any dive shops or operators that run guided dives for beginners? I'd really rather go with someone than try to figure it out on my own at this point.
- Are there quarry or lake dives closer to the city worth doing just to log more time underwater / get a sense of how underwater life is here?
- How cold are we talking realistically? My cold tolerance is pretty much zero so curious whether I'd need a drysuit or if a wetsuit is enough for certain times of year.

And if you have any ballpark costs (guided trips, rentals, site fees) that would be super helpful. Trying to figure out what I'm getting into before I start calling around.

Roborock S5V vs Mova P10 Pro Ultra Gen1

Confused between the two. Most reviews show S5V beats P10 Pro Ultra on all fronts except obstacle detection. Having a toddler but no pets, which one would you recommend?

Some thoughts:

- P10 Pro Ultra Gen1 is $150 cheaper right now and comes with 3 years warranty instead of roborock's 1 year

- Roborock outperforms P10 Pro Ultra on almost all fronts except obstacle detection

- Living in a place where it snows for a minimum of three months, the entrance of my place gets messy due to snow boots + salt so mopping performance is very important

- Most areas are hardwood, with just one center rug in the living room
