Gripper programs you've tried, that worked for you?

My grip is okay - I can tear a fresh deck of cards in half and my pinch is okay in over 50s competition - but my gripper closing has always been awful. I'm 175cm (5'9) with normal sized hands on a 5-9 man. I already train and compete in strongman so my supporting grip is fine and my crush grip is somewhere above gymbro and below rock climber.

I have a set of IM CoC in the garage I've owned for 25y plus and I really want to make some progress on them. I see lots of programs online but I'm wondering if you good ppl of the sub can recommend any you've personally tried?

Are long deadhangs worth the time?

Say- 3 holds of two minutes each. That's about 10 minutes total time, with a minute rest in between. Would I better off spending the time just doing more wrist curls, reverse curls, rope pull ups, etc.?

For cement bags

Anyone has seen someone lift 25kg cement bags? is it a good progression to use just them instead of discs and chalk?

How can I know what weight a handgrip is?

I got a handgrip years ago and have no idea how heavy it is nor have no point of comparison. I'm interested in buying a COC and knowing the weight of the gripper I own would help me know which coc to buy.

How to do the soda can crush thing

I always see people crushing an unopened soda can with their hands. Do grippers have the most carryover to that or is it something else like finger specific work like rockclimbing/pinch. I can close a coc 2 but i think i wouldnt even be close to a soda can crush

Grip Training Programming

Hey everyone,

Feeling a bit frustrated and wondered if there’s any programming for grippers. I have been aiming to close a 2.5 (RGC 126) and have closed a SG Platinum (RGC 118) just once a year ago but have always been a hair width away since.

I am able to consistently close a SG Platinum (RGC 112 - 114) pretty consistently for reference. Do you have any suggestions/programming on how to improve my grip strength?

Chalk is legendary

I had been an always an all-natural guy but living in a PG I had to join Gym as the room is so small I'd break my spine.

I had been training muscle ups and last day I asked one of my gym bro for liquid chalk after seeing him applying some....

Never realised how much strength was leaked due to poor grip....here's the stat:

\*\*Before:\*\*

6-7 High pullups that too with swing and kip up

\*\*After:\*\*

12 Strict High pullup without any swing. In fact my grip was so strong I legit stripped off the paint from the bars...

Recommended equipment to help with those suffering from hypermobile joints and TFCC sprains?

Hello!

I have hypermobile joints due to having a condition called Ehler's Danlos Syndrome, and am trying to work on my wrist stability and grip strength to overcome this as back in February, I had been doing some DB shoulder presses and because of my wrist hypermobility, my wrist rolled (knuckles turned towards me) and caused a slight lingering pain since when put in certain positions.

My physio said it is a:
"TFCC sprain and you have DRUJ (distal radial ulnar joint) ligament laxity where the ligament is possibly sprained".

Because of having hypermobile joints prone to injury, should I look into any specific equipment you can recommend? My goals are to get a stronger hands/grip especially for pressing motions, bigger forearms, and more stability in my wrists. I'm also interested in MMA so truly I am looking for the "complete" kit to my specific issues and goals.

Looking on Amazon I saw two products I was thinking of buying by FitBeast:
First was a Grip Strengthener Kit with a gripper, finger strengthener, finger exerciser.
Second was a Forearm Strengthener / Wrist Roller.

After searching through the subreddit I found the first product in this post:
https://www.reddit.com/r/GripStrength/comments/1jik1jf/do_these_work/

Where posters have noted the gripper would quickly be grown out of and it sounds like the other things in that kit are useless.

Any advice on a wrist roller or choosing other equipment is greatly appreciated!

Humerus break

Hi,
I broke my humerus 3 years ago in October close to the elbow joint. I never bothered with rehab at the time due to fear and pain. I’ve been training and rehabilitating my arm since around February this year with advice from a physio and treatment from them. My arm is getting stronger and I’m probably coming up close to lifting similar weights pre arm break however, my forearm still feels weak? I’m training the brachioradialis hard 2 times a week and it’s improved since I began training. But I feel it’s weak in ways I can’t train in the gym. For example throwing a tennis ball is hard with my arm is hard and weak(it’s my dominant arm) so that’s annoying, same with punching a bag weakness with that arm. I’m just not really sure how to train this part of my arm. Thinking it’s more functional strength instead of strength that can be trained in a gym. Is this weakness because of my forearm or elsewhere?
I’m not really sure, if anyone could help or has been in a similar situation any advice would be great thanks

Persistent thumb numbness after hook grip — should I be concerned?

I've been practicing hook grip for a few weeks. Yesterday, I did SLDLs with 90 kg for 4 sets of 8. It wasn't very heavy for me, but it was putting a lot of pressure on my thumbnails.

I previously slightly tore the nail/skin around my right thumbnail because I don't notice minor cuts while lifting.

Yesterday, after my SLDL session, my left thumb felt a lot of pressure, and the upper part of my thumb became numb. I don't know whether it happened during set 1 or set 4. After that, I did some light ab work and left the gym.

The numbness didn't improve. I slept, and it's now been about 12 hours, but the numbness is still there. It may have improved slightly, but I'm not sure.

I can move the thumb perfectly fine, and everything else feels normal. The numbness is only in the distal phalanx area, around the nail.

Has anyone experienced this from hook grip? Should I be concerned or just give it some time?

Popping Extensors

Hello people, I've been rehabbing hypermobility for a while with great results but on forearm extension work my innermost extensor (of the digitorum or indicis) always pops on both hands, it very rarely causes pain and if it does it never lasts but I was wondering if anyone had any experience with this kind of popping and how they got around it

Bee’s are no joke

I’ve been getting through decks without too much difficulty and heard Bee’s are among the toughest cards available. I’ve got a half dozen bees sitting around the house so i thought “fuck it, I’m getting kinda strong”

The Bee’s brought me back down to earth, i got a shear going about halfway through the deck after maybe five attempts and my left forearm feels CRANKED.

Anyhow, this is a fun hobby. One day in the not too distance future, I’ll pull one of these apart in a few seconds. Thanks for reading.

Wrist and arm pain when doing pushups

Hello,

M27, 55 kgs, 5'4". I am quite underweight and not at all very muscular.

When I push up, I feel like my arms do not have any strength at all and my wrist start paining. This happens after 4 or 5 repetitions.

Am I doing something wrong?

Do I need to strengthen my arms and wrist first? If yes, how?

I have observed that my body is adapting to my free weight squats training. Just in a few days, I was easily able to do squats (10-30 per set).

I want to achieve the same for pushups. I want to be able to do 25 pushups in one go.

Thank you for reading.

Training with a missing gripper/ strength gap.

I recently found a set of genie grippers at a 2nd hand store for very cheap and decided to get them because I had been trying to find I could afford. I have the 1 3 4 5 and 6. I've never really done anything like this so I'm not very strong. The 1 I can close relatively easily and the 3 I've closed before albeit I almost died trying. That being said, how should I train since I'm missing the number 2 which I believe would be the sweet spot. Should I just do holds with the #3 or like 20-30 reps with the #1. Any advice is appreciated.

Too much volume?

Decided I want to focus on grip strength, its always interested me and I've dabbled here and there. I have the 150-200-250-300 grippers from Heavy Grip. I have closed the 250 before on multiple occasions, the 300 feels far but I want to get it.

Lately I've been using my 150 for hundreds of reps a day while travelling to work/at work and I've wondered if I am doing myself any disservice with this amount of volume or if I can keep doing this many reps everyday without hindering progress.
