I have a bachelor's computer science but I also have a very very very hard time with mathematics all the way going back to my elementary school days. In college I barely survived getting a D in my algorithms class with all the studying and office hours that I could do.

I have learning disabilities including dyslexia and anything mathematical wise is it very difficult for me.

So how screwed would I be to even try to do the program?

I'm new to firearms, and my first pistol is the CZ P-10C. I wanted to get a red dot for it, but I realized mine isn't the optics-ready version, which I didn't know was even a thing when I bought it. I'm going down a rabbit hole trying to figure out the best solution, but I am still naive to know which route to go.

From what I can tell, there are two options.

There's a gunsmithing shop near my house (haven't been yet) that I read online can modify the slide to take a red dot.

Or I could buy a new optics-ready slide, which I'm assuming is basically ready to take a red dot without much extra work.

Has anyone been down either route? The slide looks like it's about $150 online, which I'd guess is cheaper than paying a gunsmith to mill my current one. Is that right?

I don't know what started happening but I have about nine cameras on my property that are all hooked up as well to the alarm system from ring. All of a sudden now they're starting to say, "you are currently being recorded" but I don't have the motion warnings turned on for any one of those cameras but they're still doing it anyways.

As a homeowner, I had a question about my irrigation system. Would you be able to tell me how easy or difficult it would be to convert one of my zones to drip line?

Currently, the sprinklers on my flower bed zone spray unevenly, missing large sections of the bed while over-saturating others. I'd like to replace those with a drip line for that zone, and extend the run time accordingly (roughly an hour, compared to the 10 minutes or so it runs now). The rest of my zones would continue running on their normal schedule.

I'm comfortable adjusting the zone run times myself once everything is set up. What I'm unsure about is the physical installation: is it possible to tap into the existing PVC line for that zone to connect a drip line? If so, what would that connection typically involve?

Starting this job for locking in a few weeks, and I know there's some areas of the new role that I'm not quite familiar with and I'm hoping to really learn about. Now being a classified area I'm pretty sure I'm not going to have the resources to just go online Google and ask AI to help teach me, so besides outside hours of work, it got me wondering, is there any type of like educational programs, certifications, classes, etc anything to expand my career?

I'll be starting Lockheed this month and I only have a secret clearance for my role and I've never had one or been in this type of job before. I wanted to ask a few things that you normally could ask in a normal non clearance job and wanted to see if there's things that are similar.

1. can you work remote or hybrid? Most likely no but I thought it would at least ask

2. is it true that there's like absolutely no internet or any type of network out? So if you have a questions about a programming language or framework you don't really have a resource to look into it?

3. obviously you can't have your phone in the clearance area but how do you handle if someone calls you for an emergency, can you just have them call like the security office or something?

4. I am feeling major imposter syndrome about not knowing as much as they expect me to know when I did the interview, so going back to the second question, how is the company when it comes to working with people that still have to learn the framework or learn the language especially since they can't use an outside source to Google anything

So I'm reading on Reddit here that there's a hiring freeze going on at Lockheed.

I got my start date, and it's in a few weeks from now. For the hiring freeze prevent me from starting? I already put my notice in for my current job so that's why it has me a little bit worried That's something might pull the plug right before my actual start date.

I'm starting Lockheed soon, and I read the paperwork about social media and even though I think I understand most of it. Want to get some clarification,

Basically they just don't want us to do anything bad online right? I can't go online onto Facebook and start sprouting stuff about the government and things like rhat (which I don't just FYI lol)

I'm also assuming that I cant post anything on behalf of the company itself, which is pretty obvious for any company.

Ideally, I just plant o keep my social media presents very quiet, just focus on video games and nerdy stuff online.

But what about LinkedIn? Can I post on LinkedIn before my start date that I just I'm going to be starting a new job there? Or should I wait to my actual first date post anything about my new position and update my LinkedIn profile?

I've never heard of these comics until recent and I would like to get there. But I'm a little confused. I see people selling them online for more than they would cost according to the website. But ends on says the first book is in pre-order for November. And the second books I can't find anything other than a Kindle version. I'm confused of the discrepancies of buying these. What gives?

The Lockheed security center systems are currently down right now but when I call today to get some clarification on something they happen to mention that my clearance was granted just yesterday. It was in adjudication on the 13th of July and granted full secret 16 of July (yesterday from this posting)

Super excited, hopefully I can schedule my start date Monday.

As I wait for my clearance, I wanted to bring up something. I've had performance issues in previous jobs, not because of my skill or knowledge, but because of my disabilities. As a kid I was diagnosed with combined-type ADHD, a reading comprehension disorder, an auditory and visual processing disorder, and a secondary learning disability. As an adult I was diagnosed with ADHD and dyslexia.

So I'm not a bad developer, but sometimes I can't process things as quickly as others, or I need things reworded a different way to fully understand what's being said. There's also a part of this I have a hard time explaining. There's a certain way my mind processes information where I can't always get the full picture, sometimes I miss things that are implied rather than stated outright. I need people to be very explicit with me. I wish I had a clean example to give, but honestly I don't fully understand it myself.

So I'm worried that when I start this role, I might run into the same issues again because of this. I'm wondering how accommodations work at Lockheed.

Obviously I'll be going into a classified area (Secret clearance, I'm assuming), which likely means I can't record anything. I can write things down, but I'm a slow writer and have always struggled with handwriting, so it's a bit difficult. My mind also can't process listening and writing at the same time. If I'm writing something down, I can't retain what someone is telling me at the same time, so I usually have to ask people to pause so I can write or type my notes.

Does anyone have advice, insights, or personal experience with this?

I was able to land a Level 4 Staff position. I haven't worked in the contractor industry before — I've always been at normal tech companies, and I'll admit my previous company pigeonholed me into specific things, so there's a lot of other areas of tech I never really got exposure to.

The interview was originally for a Level 3 position, but when I pushed back and forth on pay, they noticed I'd also applied for a Level 4 role. At the time I was just applying to whatever fit my skill set because I needed a job, and it's hard to find contractor government work without an existing clearance. Eventually the manager talked to the recruiter and just gave me the Level 4 position.

I'm a little unsure if I'm actually fit for it, honestly. I'm dealing with pretty bad imposter syndrome. My current company is extremely AI-heavy — we don't really code by hand at all. We direct the AI, review its output, and make sure everything works. It implements the code across the full stack and other microservices, plans out design, helps debug and check against requirements, and helps with testing (though we also have a manual tester).

The new role is React, TypeScript, and Java backend. I told them in the interview that my last 8 years have been React and Node.js, and that I have some familiarity with Java from earlier in my career but haven't touched it in a while — I've been studying Spring on the side, but made clear I'm not great at it since I don't use it day to day. There are other gaps too, like certain database work, that I was upfront about.

I'm currently on a PIP at my current job. I don't fully blame them for it — I was the new guy handed five months of planning work after only being there a month, and I barely understood what the code did because AI had written all of it. I struggled to plan the work properly, which got my boss in trouble, and then he got me in trouble, and that's how it started. Right now I'm handling my workload better than a lot of the other developers there, though there are a few standout people who honestly deserve to be promoted higher than they are.

I emailed the new manager asking what I could do to prepare for the role while I wait on my Secret clearance. It's just hard to find the time to study everything with a full-time job and being a full-time parent. I'm worried I won't have the experience they're expecting and that I'll underperform the way I have here. From what I understand, places like this (unlike my current AI-heavy shop) tend to give people more runway to ramp up and actually learn the codebase. For comparison — my current company hired 40 contractors and told them if they couldn't submit a PR within the first week, they'd be let go. That seems insane to me; I thought the average ramp-up time for a codebase was closer to four months.

I've been in the field 9 years. I got pigeonholed at my last company — I learned a lot in some areas, but I'm realizing through this AI-heavy role just how many other areas I never got to develop.

So I guess my question is: how fast do places like this typically expect you to get up to speed, and is there usually room to actually learn before being judged on performance? I'm studying what I can in my free time, but it's hard without knowing exactly which areas to focus on.

One more thing I should mention — I have ADHD and dyslexia, which is part of why I had AI help clean up this post; I don't always trust my own writing to come across clearly. I also want to note that the manager I'll actually be working under was only in the room for half the interview — he stepped out partway through — so I'm a little nervous he didn't hear everything I said.

This will be based in the Fort Worth, TX area. Not sure if this is the right place to post this, but figured it's worth a shot for some outside perspective.

I posted a while back that my permanent outside lighting around my house went out one day and the power block was flashing green color. When I unplugged the lights it would just be a solid green.

Contacted customer service in they sent me a replacement power block and the little control piece that you push the button to sync it up and you know turn it off and on and all that.

But with this new one now it's just flashing blue with the same exact behavior I unplug even the new controller and it goes back to a solid blue.

Which makes me think that it's a problem in my lights. I already tested plugging it into a different outlet using the new plug and everything.

It's 150 or so feet of the lights having a two screws per light to remove from my house which would incredibly painful to even install in the first place. Now I feel like I'm basically dead in the water and not sure what to do at this point. So far visually looking at the lights I don't see any damage so I don't know exactly what's causing this issue.

No I've never heard of these nozzles but there was a situation where I had a flower bed that I was thinking about having water overshoot it so it can also get some of my lawn and he recommended these nozzles. But he didn't recommend these per se for just that reason, but they recommended I'm in general for all my heads.

Now I didn't really see how special these were when he kind of demoed it on one of my heads. And he also wanted to charge $70 per head. That's including the labor in the part. Which as a homeowner to me sounds absolutely bonkers.

I don't mind buying these myself at a local irrigation story replacing the heads myself but are they even worth it or needed or they just nicer to have?

You talked about saving water but to me it look like it just took longer to water the same spot because less water was hitting it by the by the way the design was

I applied for a job and got an offer in which needed a secret clearance. In the security clearance paperwork, where you add your job history and manager information, I put down my current jobs manager (who unfortunately I don't get along with), in my last manager which I was working with for the last 8 years, and in my manager before that which I worked with for a little bit as well.

I'm still in touch with all my managers I have their phone numbers and we talk regularly as friends, except for obviously the current one.

But oddly enough the investigator is only contacting the current one and the other ones have never been reached out and I'm just curious if that's normal or why. I would think the manager that I worked with the longest would be one of the best ones to talk to.

Also my current manager had a mail-in paperwork I thought this would be like a phone call or an email or something. Makes me a little bit nervous cuz again I don't get along with him but that's a different story.

I'm just curious in general about the decision behind that and why do mail stuff out?
