Can we figure out what bird this is that I saw at 2am?
Never seen a bird this big in my area that’s not a hawk or something. I’m located in southeast Texas. I know it’s not much to go off of but I’m curious! TIA

Is this some weird cardinal?
SE Wisconsin. This bird looks for all the world like a Northern Cardinal, except that it has so much black on its head and on some of its feathers, especially the back ones.
He has the cardinal beak, but no crest. I watched him take sunflowers and feed them to a baby bird sitting on the fence.

My grandmother, 1938-2026
Passed away this morning from what I could only assume was heart failure. Since she was 88 it could have been a similar age-related cause of death. Her health had been in steady decline for the last 7 years or so, so it was bound to happen. I feel privileged to have had her in my life for my first 23 years.

Is this a yellow crowned night heron? In SW Nova Scotia, Canada
Sorry for the poor picture quality. My parents saw this guy/gal last week in southern Nova Scotia which seems to be out of range for a yellow crowned night heron but I'm not sure what else it could be.

Featherless headed fledgling I photographed today?
Took this photo because this northern cardinal fledgling appears to be featherless on his head! Has anyone ever seen this? Is it a mutation?

Juvenile blue heron, bittern..??
