modded my Sony KV-27S42 with Sunthar’s MUX RGB board. instructions were straight forward, everything worked first try. really pleased with how it turned out!
I also got a Megabat 800 as the original battery had become swollen. But now I can’t decide if I prefer it more than my NES edition GBA. This was my original system I swapped with the guts of an AGS-101 fifteen years ago, so there’s some sentimental attachment to it. I might just have to keep both!
Found it at a local Habitat for $30. It’s very heavy and well-built, though the speaker grills are a bit dirty, and the middle shelf had to come out to make room for my consoles. Lots of I/O on the back, clearly designed for flat panels from its time, but a CRT looks right at home. My favorite part is the LCD display positioned under the glass, very discrete and slick! I didn’t even know these things existed — have to wonder how many were sold back in its day.
For some context, this is an unmodified AGS-101 system (swapped into an original NES shell). It sometimes has trouble reading cartridges, but popping it out and back in usually gets things up and running. But I noticed once after gripping the console a little too firmly that the game crashed — sure enough, I can replicate the game locking up / sound getting all crackled by putting light pressure on the speaker area. My instinct tells me this is somehow the edge connector’s fault, but I’ve tried cleaning the pins with isopropyl alcohol, and I even reflowed solder on every pin to the main board and it’s shown no signs of improvement.
Any ideas for what else I can do?
