How much does being based in Brisbane rather than Sydney or Melbourne actually affect your career options in certain industries and is that gap closing or staying roughly the same?

If you were starting your accounting career in Australia again, would you still choose Big 4?

Big 4 still seems to be presented as the obvious goal for a lot of accounting students, mainly because of the training, experience and what having it on your CV can open up later. But once you factor in hours, starting salaries and the alternatives available now, I'm not sure the decision is as straightforward as it probably once seemed.

What financial decision looked expensive upfront but has actually saved you money long term?

I usually associate saving money with spending less, but some of the best decisions seem to involve paying more initially. Could be buying something better quality, moving closer to work, improving your home, paying for something annually instead of monthly, or anything else. What's something where paying more upfront genuinely worked out cheaper for you later?

Where in Brisbane do you actually go when you want to meet people rather than just go out?

There are endless lists of bars, restaurants and things to do in Brisbane, but that's slightly different from places where people actually talk to strangers and make friends. I'm interested in places or activities where you've genuinely ended up meeting people naturally. What has actually worked for you?

What's the dumbest mistake you made as a new rider that you can laugh about now?

Not looking for dangerous riding stories, more the harmless beginner stuff that experienced riders probably recognise immediately. Something you did because nobody had told you otherwise, then later realised there was a much easier way. What was your rookie moment?

Does working for a large corporate actually pay better than a smaller company when you factor in everything beyond just the base salary?

The base at a large company is often higher but the superannuation, the leave entitlements, the bonus structure, the flexibility and the career development opportunities vary enough that the total package comparison isn't always as straightforward as the headline number suggests. Would love to know how people here who've worked both sides of that divide actually think about the full compensation picture and whether the premium for the corporate brand holds up when you account for everything.

Is there a procedure that dental students consistently find harder in the clinical environment than anything their training prepared them for?

The gap between practicing on models and mannequins and working on actual patients is something every dental student goes through but the specific procedures where that gap is widest don't seem to get talked about honestly enough before you're already in the chair trying to manage it. Would love to know what people here found genuinely harder than expected when they made that transition and whether there was a specific moment where the clinical reality of the procedure felt completely different to anything the classroom had produced.

What's the biggest mistake you see apprentices make over and over?

Not having a go at anyone, just interested to hear what experienced tradies notice most often.

A genuine thank you to every Aussie firefighter.

Whether you're career, retained, or volunteer, thank you for the work you do. Most people only see firefighters during emergencies, but there's so much that happens behind the scenes with training, equipment checks, community education, and being ready at a moment's notice. Just wanted to say your efforts are appreciated, even if they don't always get recognised.

Is it worth going on an e-bike for commuting?

I’m considering getting an e-bike for my commute because the hills are killing me, but I feel a bit guilty about it and wonder if it’s worth the money. For those who use e-bikes for commuting, has it been worth it, or do you wish you had stuck with a normal bike?

Which Raiz Rewards partners are paying out the highest percentages to offset grocery prices right now?

With the cost of living biting hard this month, I've been trying to route all my online shopping strictly through the Raiz Rewards tab to get those sweet merchant cash-back drops directly into my account. I noticed some brands have completely updated their percentage contributions for May. Who is currently paying out the fastest right now without the annoying 60-day pending tracking delay? Have any of you successfully linked your recurring utility or streaming bills to trigger automatic cash-back investments?

Is the "Lite Plan" ($2.50) actually sustainable for a balance over $1,500?

The Lite plan has seen an 86% jump in users this quarter, but the $1,500 cap is tiny. For those who started on Lite recently: how quickly did you hit the cap and get bumped up to the $5.50 Regular plan? Is anyone intentionally keeping their balance at $1,499 just to keep the lower fee, or is the jump to 0.275% (for balances over $26k) the only "real" fee threshold we should be worried about?
