EVs certified for taxi use

There are some specific EVs released for taxis (which should have speed controler and GPS location tracker) like Xpress T from Tata and a variant of Carens Clavis EV. Are there any other EVs which are available to be used as taxis, or can any EV be converted to taxis. Any information would be useful.

16 amp power plugs at overnight stays

The basic charger for an EV is a 3.3kw 16 amp power plug.

In hotels/homestays, especially in areas where there is a dearth of DC fast chargers, availability of a power plug in the charging area can be a boon for both parties. The EV owner can charge the car overnight while paying at a reasonable rate, while the hotel can attract the growing EV community to stay at their facility and earn a small profit for the charging. A win win equation.

Can the community get in touch with hotels/homestays in their network, to promote this idea. Once done they can be added to the plugshare and similar apps.

Any chance of Force Motors entering the EV space?

The traveller and urbania are the only worthwhile mini buses available in the market. These would make for a great BEV or EREV. Converting these into RVs and roaming the country side would be a dream come true.

The trax and gurkha would also be great as an EV. The extended trax people carrier would make an economical commuter vehicle.

However, there doesn't seem to be any prospect of them entering the EV market. Pity!

Where to watch Odyssey?

Saw many posts on experiences of watching Odyssey at various theatres in Kochi. So is there a consensus on which one to go for, and which one to definitely avoid?

I believe that the Kochi Imax is not as good as some of the others. But is it good enough as a first time experience? TIA

Design issues of Expressways

The pillars of a good traffic system include road design, awareness of rules and etiquette, and enforcement of rules.

https://youtu.be/KGv5-08_w1o?si=ODmk3tC1LoXKH_W4 explains two of the major design flaws in our expressways:

  1. Medians should be ground level, not higher than the road.
  2. Crash barriers are not installed scientifically; they do not add to safety.

Range Extender Electric Vehicles - the best solution for India in the short to medium term?

(furthering the discussion on a similar topic in this sub)

The anxiety over the range of EVs and finding a charging point is real in lots of situations, but could be overblown in some others. Most of the time, charging is done at home, with one having to access public charging points only on occasional out-of-town trips. Many highways have a decent number of chargers, but some lesser roads have fewer charging points. There are region specific issues, with some states having higher charging points.

Could the introduction of Range Extender electric vehicles be a potential solution to these, until chargers become as omni-present as fuel stations? Basically, these are EVs, which have fuel engine which does not connect to the transmission, but acts as a generator to charge the battery. Think of it as a small genset inside your car, constantly charging the battery on the move. The youtube video on some of the models gives a range of 350 odd kms on the battery, while the range increases to over 1,000 kms with a range extender engine. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gKnwhDqZp8E

Reduction in fuel prices?

Now that the price of crude oil has come down, and fuel has been watered down with ethanol, when will we see a reduction of prices at the pump. The supposed loss that the oil companies have made should have been covered by now, by the decrease in the prices. With the introduction of crude oil from Iran and Russia coming through, the price should go down even further.

Or will the Government stick to the older template, and increase the taxes so that the reduction in the price is made up by the increase in taxes? It was estimated that after the last price decrease of crude, and increase in taxes so that the retail prices stayed the same, the government made about 30 lakh crores!

Suggestions for better traffic management in Koch and nearabouts

Kochi and surrounding areas have 2 NHs passing through it. Without a bypass (Kundanoor Aroor bypass will take a long time, current bypass in front of Oberon mall has become part of city). During the rush hours, these highways become congested, mainly due to slow moving traffic, especially trucks.

2 suggestions to speed up traffic:

  1. On the highways, wherever there are 2 or more lanes, there should be minimum speed for outer lane(s). Say minimum 60/80 or more. Forces slow moving traffic to occupy left lanes.

  1. During peak hours, outer lanes should be occupied by those with more than 2 occupants. Excludes trucks, two wheelers and cars with single/ double occupants.

Not a panacea for all ills, but contribute to easing the traffic.

Justification behind these flyovers in Kochi

These questions were posted in this subreddit, but I could not find any satisfactory replies, so here goes...

  1. Why is the Edapally flyover from NH544 to Ernakulam side, and not from one side of the NH66 to the other side of NH66.

  2. What is the rationale of the flyover at Aluva? It is not crossing a bridge / another busy road. Couldn't it have crossed the Periyar river and landed after (or even after Paravur kavala)?

Trying to understand the minds of the decision makers.
