Extreme Heat Warning

But not for me. Thankful for the Prius letting me get a good night’s sleep

Update: re-dipped

Follow up to https://www.reddit.com/r/plastidip/s/Sl5Nj7mmdo

I cut away the peeling parts and used my leftover can to build up the base layer. I ended up using the whole can to touch up each wheel and it looks a lot better now. You can see where the cut marks were and the original wheel imperfections but for a low effort job it looks good from a few feet away

Orange County, California DA's Office Gives Ebike Enforcement Update

>Earlier this year, District Attorney Todd Spitzer launched a new prosecution unit called RIDE SAFELY. The goal is to create accountability for kids and adults who ride e-bikes and e-motorcycles, but it also goes after those who break the law while riding one of the popular 2-wheelers.

>"We currently have four open prosecutions against parents," Senior Deputy District Attorney Elisa Kim said at the community meeting. "We also have 26 open investigations against parents, where we are considering filing charges."

Worth it to re-dip?

I used a HyperDip kit to paint my wheels gold. It was fine for over a year but when I had new tires installed, the shop messed up each wheel. I have one can left over so I could touch it up, another whole kit is $120. Should I instead just have the wheels fully painted if this will happen every time I get tires?

Anyone go down to Mexico?

Wondering if anyone goes down south to Mexico to cut down on the cost of living a bit. I see they have some US chain gyms there but also some of their own as well. Possible to do a week or longer in the car there? Serious replies only please

Why Can’t I Wash My Car Here?

My car has been dirty ever since I relocated to San Fran. Seems like a huge lot for just a wash but think of how many cars they could do

Thoughts on Knockoff Waterport Tank?

I was planning on buying a water tank soon for this summer and noticed that there seem to be a few unbranded water tanks on Amazon that look identical to the Waterport. Is it worth the extra $60 to get the genuine tank?

Also if anyone has this or a similar water tank, I was wondering where I could fill it up on the road. A car wash or maybe a campsite water tap came to mind but maybe there’s a better place I hadn’t thought of. Thanks

Reddit Ignoring Crypto Spambot Network

For the last two months I've been reporting a spam network active on reddit and all my reports are being ignored.

The scam works like this:

A hacked user account will make a profile post with instructions on how to buy crypto and send it to their address with promises of a random return % for any money sent there.

A bunch of other hacked accounts will comment saying things like "everything is working thank you" and the post will have its comments locked.

Separately, dozens of hacked accounts will start posting on all money-related subreddits with posts like "just made $150 in a day with this" and instructions how to search for the hacked user profile with the crypto instructions.

If someone in the post comment reports it as a scam, the hacked user bot will delete the post to avoid detection.

So far I've submitted 5 admin modmail reports and only one was actually looked at. I've also filled out other report forms on the reddit support site but no one has taken any action.

The only thing I've found that actually works is to just keep commenting "Scam" in all the bot posts and they will be deleted.

Does anyone know how else I can report this so someone at reddit actually looks at it and takes action?

Hatch storage solutions

I’m slowly reclaiming all the dead space in the Prius. My dream is to open the hatch and have my camping and adventure gear visible and easy to grab. The cargo cover acts as a storage shelf and workstation when needed. In a few minutes I can remove everything and have the entire trunk open and flat. All the windows behind the front ones are permanently blacked out.

* No build: a 2x4 ft sheet of plastic on top of the cargo cover makes it rigid enough to support weight. Replacing it with a metal sheet soon. No removing seats, complicated builds or carrying 100lbs of plywood. Only the rear seat headrests have been removed from the car.

* Storage: I mounted cheap molle panels designed for car backseats and rear view mirrors into the plastic trim of the car using threaded rivets. The rear hatch uses the cheapest curtain rods screwed into the hatch as rails to mount the large panels. I made custom straps to hold my camping table and chair in the lower glass area.

* Mattress fits folded up under the cargo cover and rolls out through the backseat when folded down. There is enough room for me to fit my legs under the cargo cover when sleeping. The mattress also deflates and rolls up into a storage bag if I need to more space. During the day the seats are up and I use the backseat for cooking and lounging.

* Hatch itself has a solar panel on the outside which is wired in through the rear wiper hole. There are heavy lift struts to help support the weight of everything. A digital rear view mirror with two cameras mounted outside helps me see out the back.

Anyone else use their backseat as a couch?

I see a lot of people leave their mattress always out or remove seats. I chill in the back and fold the seats down to go to sleep. Watch TV on a tablet and sometimes cook/eat. Sometimes nap too. No build and maximum stealth. Looks like a regular car during the day

You need a hammock

Great way to quickly set up and stretch out in the shade outside the car. Just be mindful of park rules in case some don’t allow them and respect the trees.
