Can anyone suggest better support settings for doing threads?

Hey guys,

I'm trying to make a two part shift knob, where this bottom piece screws into the top piece. The supports are such a pain however, and basically impossible to remove, particularly on the top piece, where they are internal.

Does anyone have some good, "thread friendly" support settings that may work better, so they don't bond to the actual part quite so much?

Using Overture PLA Pro

Thanks

How can I add holes/slots in this model?

Hey guys,

New to Fusion and doing my best to teach myself for fun...

I'm designing this shift knob to have switches built in and as such, I need to add holes for the switches and through the bottom for the wiring to come out of.

Right now, I'm making a 2D half model, then using the revolve feature to make the sketch 3D. However, I of course can't edit in holes that way, because then it goes around the entire model, instead of just being in one spot.

So how can I add these holes I'm wanting to?

Another question based on that... obviously the model is only 180 degrees right now, so I can see inside and make sure everything is right... once it's done though, I'll wanna make it a full 360 for the 3D print file...

How do I do that? The only way I can figure out is just making another model from the sketch, but that isn't super efficient. So is there a way to grab the model and revolve it, rather than having to grab the sketch?

Thanks!

How does everyone like the G56?

Hey guys, I've been planning to Allison swap my truck, but now I'm considering doing a G56 instead.

However, I've been reading about it and it sounds like people don't really like it? Everyone says it shifts really slow, the clutch engages really rough, and it doesn't float gears well at all... which is basically the only way I drive manuals.

However, I've driven the NV5600 a ton, which is supposed to be a lot slower than the G56, and I feel like it shifts and especially floats great. I just don't like the feel or shift pattern as much

What to do with the OM617 ALDA boost line after delete?

I deleted/removed my ALDA and am unsure what to do with the boost line that connected to it.

On my car it goes manifold > EGR valve > ALDA > bottom of UFO.

I have it temporarily connected right now, but my question is... do I need to keep the boost line connected to the UFO?

Also, if anyone here has both/either full electrical and vacuum line diagrams for my 1985 300CD that would be awesome! There are lots of components on this engine of which I'm not fimilar (like a sensor of sorts, on top of the intake manifold, near the back) and I'd like to remove as much as I can to simplify it all... hints starting with the ALDA.

Thanks!

ZF S5-42 shift rail detent install after assembly.

Hey guys! So I was stupid and forgot to install the shift rail detents in my ZF5 during assembly, so now I have to figure out how to install them after, as pulling it apart again isn't worth my time...

I saw some videos where they just dropped in, but I'm guessing my case is an updated version or something as there are little seats that prevent the pins from going in all the way.

What's my best course of action here? Do they make smaller pins that will fit or should I drill out the seats/lips so I can get them down all the way?

Thanks!

Who writes the best custom tunes for the 6.7 on the MM3 platform?

Title. Rob D. is my go to for 5.9s, but unfortunately (and understandably) he doesn't do 6.7s, so I need to find a good source for my 6.7.

I wanna use the MM3 platform.

Thanks

Will a 190e 5spd go in my 300CD?

I have the chance to buy a junk 1984 190e with the 5 speed.

Will the transmission and related components fit into my '85 300CD?

Is there anywhere I can find these rear window gaskets for the coupe?

The rest of my gaskets are... okay. They're cracked, but still intact. So I'm gonna moisturize them a bunch and hope they survive a while longer. But these rear window seals are, as you can see, the falling away.

Is there any place where I can still get these?

Thanks

I got her!

Thank you everyone who told me about these cars and helped me make the decision!

She's not perfect, but she runs and drives fantastic, the handling is great and the ride (and seats) are absolutely incredible... (and stops lol) and all the little things to work on just means more time getting to know the car.

All I'm waiting on are some new tires, as these ones are cracked real bad, and I'm gonna start driving her!

I'll do as much reading as I can, but since I'm here, I wanna simplify it as much as possible... so what are some things that can be deleted/removed/bypassed?

Anything in the vacuum system I can get rid of? I'd like to have as few points of leakage as possible... tho, luckily for me, the last owner fixed all the leaks.

In the cabin, I noticed a Bosch box labeled "EGR." Is there anyway to delete/bypass this?

Anyways, I'm very excited. Owning a classic car has been a dream for a long time and the w123 is a specific one I've wanted... and now I have it!!

Mayhaps I'd prefer a 300CD...

1985 Mercedes-Benz 300CD... 214k miles

Okay guys, I recently asked about a gorgeous 300SD I found and as much as I love it, many of you persuaded me to:

A. Go for something cheaper, that way I have some extra money for any fixes

B. Not buy a "perfect" car, cuz then I'll feel guilty actually using it

I agreed with this, so the search continued. I then came across the 300CD and fell in love. Firstly, I don't have a family so a 4D family sedan is not needed and while the sedans are still nice, the coupe is a cool car. The pillar-less design has me hooked.

Now, I was warned that it can be hard to get parts for them because they are rare and... well that's okay I think. I just love this car.

So anyways, I found this guy. It is by no means perfect, but that's kinda the point, while still being nice and having a good paint color and interior. Plus, it's $5k instead of $10k and I think I could talk him down...

In the last two photos, there was some rust he "repaired" under some of the floorboards (I will finish repairing them myself... it looks like he just didn't weld it completely) but he says there is otherwise no rust and really no issues.

Rather than explain it all, I'll just copy the description:

  • Every oil change is either Rotella T6 5W-40 Turbo or Mobil-1 5W-30 Full Synthetic for Winter with Mann PF 1055 oil filter.
  • Every year fuel system is treated with a Liqui-Moly Diesel Flush hot purge and that's like a tuneup in itself. Look it up!
  • Replaced the battery with AGM H8
  • Serviced glow plugs Repaired block heater plug
  • Replaced belts
  • Replaced water pump
  • Replaced coolant expansions tank and cap
  • Replaced tires (cracked now and ready to replace)
  • Replaced front speakers
  • Replaced fader switch
  • Upgraded stereo to modern mp3 compatible deck as original Becker stereo was damaged.
  • Replaced vacuum pump
  • Replaced heater control valve with modern upgraded one to allow for superior heating control.
  • Rebuilt heater control switch
  • Flushed power steering system
  • Replaced steering damper
  • Replaced injector drain lines
  • Replaced suction side fuel lines
  • Replaced "cigar" hose
  • Replaced valve cover gasket every two valve adjustments
  • Replaced oil pan gasket
  • Replaced turbo-drain seals
  • Replaced wastegate vacuum line
  • Replaced brake master cylinder
  • Replaced brake pads and rotors all around (ATE)
  • Replaced rubber brake hoses Flushed entire brake fluid system
  • Replaced Rear stabilizer/swaybar links
  • Replaced front shocks with HD Bilstein Flushed fuel tank
  • Replaced pickup screen in fuel tank
  • Replaced primary and secondary fuel filters yearly
  • Replaced fuel primer/lift pump
  • Flushed and filled rear diff
  • Serviced transmission filter and fluid
  • Replaced transmission shifter bushings Replaced Air filter housing supports Upgraded headlights to European E4 specs and Hella 65W bulbs

He said he drove it as his daily for 5 years, up until the last 3 months after his work got him a rig. I also asked about long drives, as I will use it for road trips a lot and he said he has done multiple 600 mile (round trip) drives with no issues.

What are y'all's thoughts? I feel like if I can get him down to $4k or even $4.5k it wouldn't be a bad buy. Even if there's stuff to fix, I'll have some extra cash and the ability to fix anything I find.

Thanks!... again lol

Thoughts on this beauty?

EDIT: I'm going to pass on this car... to anyone interested here is the link.

Good day to you my fellow Mercedes addicts...

This car came into my life earlier this afternoon and I instantly fell in love. To keep this simple, I'll put this into two sections, car description first, then my questions about it.

  • 1984 300SD
  • One family since it was bought in Germany (and imported) thru Mercedes' Factory Delivery Program
  • 270k miles
  • Service done in the last 2 years:

Head gasket service completed

Valve adjustment performed

Compression verified

New glow plugs installed

Steering system refreshed

Tie rods

Center link

Idler arm

Steering damper

Front and rear flex discs (guibos) replaced
Driveshaft center support bearing replaced

Transmission service completed

Differential service completed

New engine mounts

New transmission mount

Suspension refreshed with new shocks

Brake service performed, including fluid flush

New battery

New tires

  • Garage kept
  • Cali. car
  • Free of rust
  • Full ownership and service history

Asking $10,000

Okay, here are my questions:

I currently have a 2014 Jetta TDI, 6spd manual. It's a great car, literally zero issues, and I do like it. But it's not cool lol. It's my second vehicle, so I do have another reliable vehicle and am not dependent on this one... so I'd like something that is cool and that I'd enjoy driving and showing off.

That being said, I do drive the Jetta a lot cuz its a lot better on fuel than my 5.9 Cummins pickup, so this will be a daily driver... or at least a frequent driver. I also use the Jetta for long drives/road trips, so that would be a good to use this for that too...

So, not specifically to this car, are they at the age now where it is too old to be a reliable daily or something I can trust on a long drive? Everything I've read says they're basically indestructible and will go forever if cared for, which this one seems like it has been.

Does this car seem like a good buy?

Is $10k crazy? It seems like a lot for me, given I'd sell my Jetta for around that... but also I would pay it if that's what it takes. I love this car, especially the blue, its the only good color I've seen while browsing... a nice change from the white, banana yellow, and cream... or the occasional bronzey-brown.

Thanks!

Any negatives to turbo blankets?

I've been tossing around the idea of doing a VGT swap on my truck... I don't need a bigger turbo/more power, I'm just wanting better spool... but that's expensive and I'm still not sure about it as I get pretty mixed opinions wherever I go.

So, for a cheaper alternative, for the time being, I've been reading about turbo blankets and it seems that they actually do improve spool, as well as other benefits, like heat soak.

My only concern is, I've heard it can "cook" your turbo, since you are holding all that heat in, and cause premature failure or other damage. But, I'd image, as long as you control your EGTs, which you would either way, it should be fine...

Does anyone have experience with them? Any reason not to get one, that I'm not thinking of?

Thanks

Thoughts on this HE351VE for 5.9 swap?

Hey guys, I wanna do a VGT swap on my '06 5.9. I see no reason to buy BD's entire kit when I don't need a lot of the parts (like the manifold) so I've been looking for a used 6.7 take off.

Does this one seem decent? What should I look for, besides the obvious, like shaft play? (Is any shaft play normal or should it have no movement?)

He said the engine had ~150k miles when he took it off, and it was/is tuned.

He's asking $400, which seems reasonable given nothing is wrong. Then maybe I can sell my HE351CW for a couple hundred or so...

Thanks!

Is this a good deal on this monitor?

Hey guys, wanting to upgrade my 27" 1080p, but I don't want to spend the excessive amount on 4k... I also highly doubt I'll notice the difference between 1440 and 4k, so I'm considering grabbing this while it's on sale.

Would this be a good buy?

Help tuning 1987 4.2l Wrangler

I'm in over my head guys... my buddy brought me this car saying it stalls when put into reverse. I thought, transmission issue? Easy! However, I figured out that was actually not the issue, but the engine/tuning.

Unfortunately, I'm a diesel mechanic, I have never done anything more to a gas engine, let alone a carbonated one, than replace the spark plugs and call it good. So that's what I did. I pulled the plugs and they definitely looked bad. The gap was ~ 0.050" which is substantially more than the manual specified 0.030". They also had pretty bad carbon build up, which from what I read is either rich mixture or retarded timing.

Anyways, I replaced the plugs and it already sounded a little smoother in the exhaust, however I don't feel right turning it back to him, knowing there are still issues. So I am determined to try and get this thing tuned right. But as said, I have no clue what I'm doing...

I read some stuff, watched some videos. I know there are two screws on the bottom of the carb for idle. There is also a curb idle and fast idle screw on the top driver's side? I couldn't figure out what those are supposed to do. I guess I also need a vacuum gauge and a timing light??? Not sure what that is...

Anyways, if anyone has a video or thread on how to do this, step by step, or would be willing to walk me through it even, that would be great. Unfortunately, as bad as I am with this, my buddy has 0 mechanical capability, so he's gonna end up having to pay a shop if I can't do it.

Any help would be amazing!

Best muffler/resonator for the 2.0?

Hey all, I recently hit a pothole with my CJAA and of course it's better in every way. I didn't love the straight pipe sound, to me it sounded like a clapped out Civic or Subaru, so I threw an AT2525XL on it. The sound is definitely a lot smoother and it doesn't have that fart-can "bwap" to it anymore. But being the XL version, with the resonator, it is also quieter than I would like.

Now I don't want to be the obnoxious neighbor with the car that wakes up the whole neighborhood when it starts, but some sound would be nice. I really like the exhaust system that comes on the R-Line Jettas. It's got a good throaty idle to it, while still being mellow, and has decent volume once you actually get into it.

My initial thought was to get the AT2525 (non-XL/resonated version) but I've heard those tent to sound a lot like Hondas lol. Plus I figured it would be fun to try something new. I've heard Borla is good, but they said their products "aren't tested to handle the heat of a diesel exhaust" so they were absolutely no help in choosing a product.

If anyone has some suggestions on what I should get, that would be awesome!

Thanks!

TL;DR: Looking for a muffler/resonator with a smooth, but throaty/aggressive tone, that isn't obnoxiously loud at idle/low RPM, but can be heard well when you get into the throttle.

Looking for some upgrade suggestions for my Losi Rock Rey

Hey guys,

I just broke out my Rock Rey again the other day after a few years and now I'm remembering why I stopped driving it in the first place. Not that it's a bad truck at all, it just has some small issues I need to fix.

  1. The steering servo is much too weak, what is the best upgrade for that?

  2. Something about the actual RC system is super buggy. You'll be driving fine, then suddenly no more throttle, but you can still steer. Then you have half throttle. Then full again for a while. Then non... you get the point. Are there any good systems to upgrade that?

  3. The suspension doesn't necessarily have any issues, however I am a little hard on the truck and ended up bending one of the front struts. So if there are any more durable options, that'd be awesome.

I think those are my main issues with it... otherwise it's a pretty solid rig and I really like it.

If there is anything else I should upgrade, any suggestions would be awesome. I'd like to get this thing running good again.

P.S. what batteries/chargers are we running now adays?

Thanks!

How are the Watch Ultras these day?

Currently I have a Garmin Fenix 7X, etc etc and I LOVE the watch itself, the battery life, and especially the flashlight which I thought was a total gimmick...

That being said, as a smart watch it is trash and lately it's been randomly not showing/getting notifications, which is literally half the reason I had a smart watch.

I had a Watch Ultra back in the day (when they first came out) as well as a few others and I did quite like it. After that I had an Apple Watch Ultra and if I didn't hate the phone I would've kept... that was by far the best, most problem-free watch I have used.

Leaving the 28 day battery life will be quite difficult, but essentially not having smart watch features... not even getting notifications... is really starting to frusturate me.

Are the Watch Ultras still any good? Any reason to spend more on the newer one? Should I be looking at another brand?

Thanks

HDMI CEC is a mess

Hey guys,

So I have Xbox Series X > Onkyo TX-NR7100 > BenQ TH690ST.

The Xbox and AVR communicate great, Xbox turns it on/off no problem. The projector also gets turned on no problem.

For some reason, BenQ decided it was a good idea to only do one way CEC, so you have to manually turn the projector off.

Not a big deal, it has a 3 minute sleep timer however, for some reason, even with all other devices off its still "detecting" a source and then it stays on forever.

If I turn the projector off, it turns the Xbox and AVR off, but since the Xbox has a shutdown period, the AVR then turns back on, thinking it's supposed to be (I really don't know) which then ends up turning the projector on again... so I'm pretty lost.

I can't figure out how to fix it, but if I'm gonna have to get rid of the AVR/sound system if I can't cuz the Samsung speaker bar we had before worked just fine and having to turn everything on/off manually won't be fun.

My current settings:

Xbox | Console turns other devices on/off | Other devices can turn console off | Console sends volume commands (does work on AVR)

AVR | CEC on | HDMI Standby Through "Auto" (also tried "Auto ECO with no difference) | ARC off

Projector | CEC on | Power on link "From device" | Power off link "From projector"

Any help would be great.

Thanks
