2K11 Pro Comp vs. Bul Tac Pro?

These two seem to be comparable in features and price. Unfortunately, there seems to be no way to even hold a Bul person. So if I went that direction I’d be buying it sight unseen assuming I could even order one. I’m curious how the grip feels among other things. I’d even consider the compact if I could see one in person. Anyone have an opinion between these two? Does everyone with a Bul just trust that the internet is right?

Better 2011 vs Budget and upgrade?

I’m trying to understand how the 2011 upgrade/parts ecosystem works. Is it somewhat like an AR-15 where you can buy a cheaper base gun and gradually upgrade the components until you essentially have a higher-end gun?

For example, if I bought a more budget-oriented 2011 and eventually upgraded the trigger, ignition components, barrel, etc., how close could I realistically get to something like a BUL, Staccato, etc.?
Is there a point where you’re better off just buying the nicer gun from the beginning because of things that can’t realistically be upgraded or would cost too much to retrofit?

I’m particularly interested in the difference between buying a ~$1,500 2011 and spending ~$3,000 on a better one.

What am I actually paying for with the more expensive gun?

2k11 Upgrades?

I heard Ben Stoeger mention some upgrades that Kimber has made. I can’t remember them all but I felt like the trigger was one. Is there any way to know which ones do or don’t have these features? Are they across all models?

First go

Painted my rifle for the first time. Using Rapco Forest Green and Matte Black. I think I was too afraid to overdo it, especially with the black mesh. It shows up a little more in real life than in pictures but it’s still really light. Will I mess it up more if I try to darken it? Or leave it alone?

Carry and Competition in 1 gun

I carry a full-size PDP and compete with a Shadow 2. Lately I’ve felt like having two different platforms means I don’t give either one enough focused training. I’m constantly bouncing back and forth.

Has anyone gone to a “one gun does it all” setup? Something reliable enough to carry but still competitive enough for USPSA. I know a lot of law enforcement agencies are using Staccatos, so it got me wondering if that’s the sweet spot or if I’m chasing something that doesn’t really exist.

Rhino S regret?

I jumped on a Rhino S after watching Juicey Media a while back. Shortly after, all the Rhodie hype started showing up on my feed. It honestly seems better in every way, and for about the same price.
Now I’m trying to decide if it’s worth taking the hit on selling the Rhino and switching to a Rhodie. Anyone who’s used both have any thoughts?

I know there will always end up being something better out there but I feel like I pulled the trigger like a week too early on this one.

Mesh Stencil?

I’m working up the courage to try painting my first rifle. The Lucas Botkin painting video made it look simple enough that I think I could pull off something similar.
I’m having trouble finding a mesh pattern that I really like, especially the one he used in the video. What are you guys using for your mesh patterns?

Lessons but from who?

I’ve always struggled with not taking lessons because I don’t know if what I’m practicing is actually making me better or just reinforcing bad habits. I’d like to train with other shooters, but I never know who actually knows what they are talking about about and who is just “really good at shooting.”

Recently, a guy at my local range who I would have considered an expert got roasted by Ben Stoeger and others in the comments. Before that, I probably would have taken his advice without hesitation.

How do you evaluate a coach or instructor? Preferably before dropping a bunch of money with them.

Edit: I’m unclassified but have shot C class at the few classifiers I have done.

What did I learn? What next? (Try #2)

You guys talked me into upgrading my ammo, so I started on the cheaper end before spending more.

Top left: Winchester White Box (for comparison)
Top right: Frontier 55gr HP Match
Bottom left: Frontier 75gr BTHP
Ignore the bottom right target.

Shot with a 16” Criterion Core pencil barrel off bags.

What should I take away from this? The Frontier 55gr HP Match seems to be the clear winner.
Where would you go from here to get better? Keep testing off bags? Switch to a bipod?

I’d also like to keep ammo as affordable as possible. If a slightly cheaper load shoots almost as well, I’d rather buy that so I’ll actually practice more so that’s why I’m trying Frontier first.

Starting out “distance” shooting

Went out to zero a new scope today (Primary Arms SLX compact 4–16x) and this is my first time shooting with this kind of magnification.
This was at 100 yards using a 16” .223 Wylde Criterion pencil barrel on an AR. I was set up on bags and shooting mostly 55gr FMJ (Winchester White Box).
I’m assuming the right approach is to get consistent at shorter distances and then work outward, but after bringing it in I realized I don’t really know what kind of performance I should expect from this setup.
Can groups realistically get tighter than this with this barrel/ammo combo, or am I already close to the limit?
Also, I had a few shots that would randomly jump up and left. It wasn’t consistent, and I couldn’t tell if I was doing anything differently when they happened. Any ideas what might cause that?

TL/DR Would you consider this scope zeroed? Can this setup do any better with practice or is this about as good as it gets? Is there a normal thing that would cause the up and left outliers?

Multiple guns sharing a suppressor

I know there’s arguments for dedicated suppressors and I have a dedicated for my main AR. For my backup and my .308 neither of which I use near as often I’d like to share a .30 cal. It occurred to me if I switch them back and forth, does poi shift every time I put it back on? Meaning, do I need to rezero every time? I’ll be using plan b mounts.

Budget 30 Cal

I feel like doing my patriotic duty and finally picking up a suppressor today. Has the budget .30 cal question been settled yet?
I’m looking at the Polo 30, Enticer (which version?), and the Simple Man.
I’m probably just going to go with the cheapest option unless there’s a strong reason not to. Is there a best place to watch for deals, or is it more of a “buy it when you find it” kind of thing?

Edit: Rookie mistake forgetting this info: this is kind of an “extra” suppressor that will go back and forth between my .308 bolt and backup/secondary AR. I already have a Rhino S on my other AR that I’m happy with.

Mount Help

I’m planning to pick up a PA 4-16x Compact for my 16 inch AR. I’ll eventually add either a 45 degree or top mounted dot.

I know basically nothing about scope mounts. What’s the cheapest mount that’s still solid and trustworthy?

Also, if you know of any good 4th of July sales, I’d really appreciate it. Thanks!

EDIT: dang, I’m reading back through and still not sure what I did wrong. I found the article about mount height. Not sure where else to look.

Which Reticle?

I’m new to ranged shooting beyond 200 or really even 100 yards so I’m looking to add a scope to my 16” Criterion .223 Wylde. I think for my budget I’ve landed on the PA SLx Compact 4-16X44 FFP. What I don’t know anything about is the reticle. C_Does seems to dislike the Athena BPR in his video saying it’s too difficult to see the center cross.

As someone who doesn’t yet know how to use the markings on the scope id be curious which of the 3 you guys would recommend.

What’s wrong with this?

I’m new to anything longer than red dot/ magnifier but don’t want an LPVO. I’d like to try further out than 200 but I don’t know how far yet. I’d like to experiment and see what it’s like. It’s going on a 16” .223 Wylde Criterion pencil barrel. I originally was set on the PA 4-16 compact ($350ish before Mount) but then came across this. I’m assuming it’s too good to be true I just don’t know why.

LPVO vs MPVO

If you’re planning to run an offset red dot, why choose an LPVO over an MPVO? You have the close stuff covered with the red dot, why not get a little more on the top end?

For those who have experience with both setups, what am I missing?

Barrel Hierarchy

Can someone give me a rough hierarchy of AR barrel manufacturers?

I’m having a hard time keeping companies like Ballistic Advantage, Rosco, Criterion, BCM, PSA, and SOLGW straight, especially since some outsource production.

From a buyer’s perspective, which are considered better and why? What do you gain as you move up in price?

Sleep tracking.

I’m curious about tracking my sleep to see if that’s part of my energy problem. I know this shouldn’t be hard but I don’t understand how to track my sleep. All I can figure out is I have to set a bedtime and wake time? Is there not just a button I can push that says I’m laying down to go to sleep?

Holster advice

Looking for some holster setup advice.

I’ve previously been using a Carnivore holster mounted to a Boss Hanger with a Tek-Mount quick release for my shadow 2. When I bought a PDP, I kept things simple and picked up a GT Holster setup with one of the Tek-Mount insert discs already installed.

The issue is that every time I draw, the holster flexes/bends outward pretty significantly before the gun comes free. It doesn’t feel very solid compared to my Carnivore setup.

My Carnivore doesn’t do this, and I’m assuming that’s because the retention is much lower, but I’m not sure. Has anyone run into this with a GT holster and Tek-Mount setup? Any tricks to stiffen it up or improve the draw?

I’d like to keep using this PDP holster because I use it for two guns and the amount of reholstering and movement involved makes the setup really convenient.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.
